  • saw these guys in buffalo last night, and it was absolutely amazing, time to get all their stuff <3

  • 6/8, the best thing ever since amberleaf tobacco

  • I love, love, love this band

  • thank you, very much.

  • he is the best

  • she left me.. today

  • wow

  • I've never heard a song that better describes what it is to be broken.

  • I can't believe it took this long to find the song that manuscripted my life

  • A tad melodramatic, but my exact reaction when I heard this too.

  • this song makes me want to drop out of law school, get my heart broken somewhere, and take to the harmonica

  • oh gosh this song rocks :3 , i love this live version instead of the recorded one , it's just that this one sounds more emotional ..yo guys can any of you tell me where to download this song but in this version? cuz i looked for it and i only find the recorded ver one.

  • So he just standed.

    luler

  • I decided to listen to a song I heard at a dance, it has a similar theme-Miracle by Cascada.

After listening to that song I decided I wanted to see this video, remembering how amazing I thought it was the first time I saw it. There is no comparison. After listening to Okkervil River and real folk music I have yet to find pop music or whatever you'd like to call it attractive at all. When something like this is written, perfected lyrics and real, heartfelt singing you can't help but tear up.

  • Is it me or this is a touching song?

P.D. I'll hate myself for writing this chessy comment but I miss you, Angie.

  • I could've written that exact thing myself

  • I miss you too, Angie. Boy, was the sex epic!

  • Oh yes, that angie is unforgettable and the white sand beaches in cancun.

  • excellent song. accurately describin all the pent up frustrations of tryin 2 get over a bad break up.

  • i wish he played it live at ACL.

  • haha this is funny comments .. hehehe... i love how u guys are informed with ur english...... lol lol past ... duuuuhhh

  • stood. stood is the past participle of stand. not standed.

  • technically, he's not using the past participle of to stand because he's not using a compound tense. you're right, though; stood is the past participle of stand.

  • haha thanks mate i was just joking, but you've triggered my intrigue, how come you can't say "i stood" etc. in this context?

  • hahaha

  • Sooo..sad in reality..if you take the words

  • this song is m-azing.

    :3

  • wow, I'm a metalhead and I have to say that this song is raw. Raw in it's best form. No beating around the bush. Just straight up and honest. Says exactly what every guy is thinking when left by a loved one. Subtle attack but, not a low-blow.

  • This version of the song was so raw and honest, and the video made it so much better. The cameraman certainly helped the process. I was almost moved to tears. I'm blown away.

  • I think the very essence of the song lies in that because it is so direct and so raw there was no need for subtlety. a broken heart should never be so hidden, and for him it wasnt. kudos to him for such a powerful song in all its simplicity.

  • The lyrics to this song are so direct and amaturish, I'm just glad that Will outgrew this direct assualt phase and started doing stuff like Black Sheep Boy and The Stage Names... I'm not saying it's a bad song, I'm just saying that lyrics like this belong on a Taking Back Sunday or Brand New album, rather than an okkervil album. There's just no subtlity.

  • Hey, does Okkervil River have you in some sort of prison where you are forced to listen to this song? I can bake you a cake with a Coldplay cd and mail it to you so you can be happy with the obtuse metaphorical ridiculous music that you crave.

  • Hey 2zednik0, way to respond in a very immature fashion to somebody who expressed a valid opinion. At least he gave his reasons for liking it instead of saying "HAY DIS SUX".

  • I don't think 2zednik0 was saying this song sucks, I think he was pointing out how absurdly pretentious RE1206's comment was.

I loved the Coldplay rip. Spot on.

However this video is probably my favorite video on youtube. The squeezebox deserves to be used more in music.

  • thank you!

  • Hear, hear! LOL. That was bloody brilliant, man!

  • lol. this is a year old but still funny!

  • don't ever say that about something as good as his lyrics, espacially when u don't get them.

  • what's to get? He got dumped and is projecting his anguish onto his ex via anger and is creating things that aren't there to get over her and replace her. That's the song. I did a cover of this, it's on my channel. I never said I didn't like the song, I'm just saying that stuff like this, Down the River of Golden Dreams and Stars too Small to Use are just... they aren't nearly as beautiful as Black Sheep Boy (and the Appendix) or The Stage Names... not a big fan of the Stand Ins, though.

  • i'm following, but i acctually ment "get them" as in finding some kind of reflection from urself in it...

  • The lyrics to this song are AMAZING!

  • goodbye

  • I hope this is what heaven looks and sounds like...So beautiful

  • im pretty sure the word you needed was stood not standed.

  • Take it easy, he's french.

  • standed?

  • brutal and absolutely true. sheff is a lyrical genius, i wish more music put as much magic into their lyrics like he does. favorite OR song for sure. the camera man was also a genius, wonderful composition

  • this song almost made me cry last night. what are you doing to me will sheff..

  • amazing. this one and "no children" by the mountain goats are by far my favourite songs about breaking up.

  • no way to tripods!!!!

  • I love your stuff....but invest in a tripod.

  • it seems more natural and more inviting without a tripod

  • Wouldn't work man. The earth shakes when Will plays anyway.

  • that was the best reply ever!!!!!

  • Very very cool.

  • what a great finding!!!!!! Favorite!!

  • this video cuts out like a minute in for me

  • thats cos u suk

  • *stood

  • i would not want to be will sheffs ex girlfriend...

  • This should be pretty close:

lover, and now that you've left me I'm glad you're unlovely

cuz if you could take all the heat in your heart and just hang it on you

i wouldn't be able to bear the way you cannot love me

it's much easier of me to make a monster out of you

  • So here I go substituting the glow from your temples

all our sighs and our trembles and each last letter sent to you

on this cheap little pen from this weak little man, the one singing

out his jangling, ringing and hopefully stinging attack upon you

  • yeah, here I go just exploding the hope we'll be speaking

    someday years from now seeking

    friendship and understanding

I hope you get angry and hurt and have the hardest of landings

and I hope your new man thinks of me when he sees what a number I did on you

  • I grow tired of this song, turn my eyes to the blonde in the bleachers

    she's a lovely young creature

    guess she's seeking adventure

she's ready to see that the world ain't so sweet nor so tender

I won't break her just bend her and make her into my new ringer for you

  • I'll stay in the same comfy town, write the same old songs down, drive the same streets

seek the same sense of dull peace

    singing sweet words to chimneys

Same walk by the road where the same ugly snow's finally leaving

but I'll fight off the spring, I don't want lovely things, I don't want the earth new

  • i can't find the lyrics to this song anywhere. does anyone have a link?

  • thank you for putting this online. good idea, wonderful sad song.

  • it's on their Overboard & Down EP

  • yes but i can't find it anywhere on there cd's?

  • who's singing this song?

  • Okkervill River ;) as writed on the title...

  • @mathiasloir Will Sheff.

  • It is an amazing song.

    Angry, beautiful, real.

  • what album is love to a monster on?

  • It's on Overboard & down.

  • This is one of the best songs I've heard Will sing. And I've listened to (almost) all of it.

  • is this a song of okkervil river?

  • fucking amazing.

  • YES!

  • sweet words to the chippies!

  • I love that man.

  • this is really beautiful, nice video.

  • very cool, thanks to you

  • and I thank you for doing these. They are making my day.

  • We shot this in Paris. We were on a work site near the place they were going to play. We do this sort of stuff with a lot of bands we like.

  • Wow. Did you shoot this? When? Where? And under what circumstances?
