First time I saw this footage was in some TV movie from the 70's featuring killer bees. According to the story, the pilot of that heli had just been attacked by bees, causing the crash. That's one way to keep a filming budget down...use old crash test footage instead of staging a new crash..

yeah, its an ugly aircraft, but this was done early in development, but that didn't help the ugly. Remember; the helicopter was a fairly new idea at the time. it takes time for technology to figure out what to do. Stuff doesn't happen overnight.
