For one, Ford, GM, and Chrysler automakers get paid roughly twice the amount Workers working for foreign companies. Unions today are making labor in the US much less competitive. Secondly, Republicans opposed the bail-out because they still want to give ridiculously high wages (after tallying the actual pay and benefits, Ford workers make 70$ per hour) and make crappy automobiles.

It doesn't mean autoworkers were overpaid.. it means other jobs are underpaid. I mean look at how much your particular employer pays you vs how much profit they make :) This is the beginning of the end of the middle class.

in some ways i agree but i work for a small business and my combined income with my highly paid spouse is more then the people who sign my check. But i don't get to write off everything like car, phone, insurance, ect. like business owners.

apparently you never took the time to learn why Unions today aren't necessarily such a great thing. For one, Ford, GM, and Chrysler automakers get paid roughly twice the amount Workers working for foreign companies. Unions today are making labor in the US much less competitive. Secondly, Republicans opposed the bail-out because they still want to give ridiculously high wages (after tallying the actual pay and benefits, Ford workers make 70$ per hour) and make crappy automobiles.

I'd like to point out giving a $15 billion dollar loan won't fix the problem. People aren't buying cars because they can't afford them. Our monetary system is screwed and the Federal Reserve issued another rate cut.

Actually, this loan will help The industry with Manufacturing, and system operation restructing, which will help lower costs for manufacturing/production in the long run. Not only that, the Auto Industry is an Oligopoly(few competiters),and if FORD, GM and CHRYSLER(which is not really part of the BIG 3) Fall, then the Imports rule the market. Remember, its a loan, not a grant like that $700 Billion was.

This is bullshit. Non-union workers in other states in the Auto Industry make MORE than those in Michigan. There's also a heavy monopoly by the Michigan unions to keep workers that are non-union from working. They are simply another mini-mafia, so to compare this union to the achievements of other unions is like comparing bush to Abraham Lincoln only because they were both President. Also, child labor laws weren't passed out of the goodness of their heart. Another bad point.

The collapse of the economy is inevitable. What we are doing is only going to make this recession/depression longer and more painful. The government created a lot of these problems. I do not see how they can fix them with more of the same. The FED just lowered interest rates down to below half a percent. This will lead to endless inflation. It collapse that WILL happen in the future will be much much worse than if we were to face it now.

We are only prolonging the problems of this economy. we need to take it on the chin which will hurt more in the short run but will be better for us in the long run. you dont cure drug addiction with more drugs, sure it feels good now but will kill us in the long run.
