If anyone has ever seen the activity book for the Little Professor, it has a page called "Winter Numberland" that shows a train with smoke in the shape of the number 2 coming out of it, just like in this animation. I don't know if that page was inspired by this sketch, or vice versa.
I can agree. Segments with a close-up like that used to scare me as well. This whole segment used to freak me out, but somehow, the one with the "U" train (which somehow led to an end with a shot of the universe) greatly mystified me. Can anyone find the latter?
I think I remember this, and if this was from my viewing days, then it would have been on during the 1970's. It makes me wonder - does Noah's Ark 'inspire' this one? When I see two elephants, two giraffes, ets. it makes me wonder. Thanks in advance.
OMG I remember this! I thought the voice yelling "WHOOOO-WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO" after the "2" filled up the screen was a little freaky, but I also remember the circus train with all those animals in it, and the voice saying "Two!" at the end. Sesame Street had some pretty weird animated segments!
Yes, it certainly did. It was a long run between White Plains in the Bronx and Brooklyn. Had some good fast running underground when it went into express mode and skipped a batch of stations.
No, I don't! Do you know I purposely skipped and ignored all the pinball cartoons back in the mid-80's. I found them obnoxious and annoying. I should have at least recorded one for memories sake. I never got Painter # 2, although I remember wishing the would air it. I'm not sure what you mean by "Swedish number skits".
The "Swedish number skits" were originally animated for the Swedish version of Sesame Street in the early 80s; they started appearing in the American version a few years later. Each one involved counting animals, the last one of which was unusual somehow. Does that sound familiar?
I think I remember but I didn't watch Sesame Street in the early 80's. I watched it from around 1970 to 1977 then from 1985 to 1988. I outgrew it when I was nine and it hadn't become nostalgic to me until I was about 16.
According to the Muppet Wikia, this cartoon's appeared at least since 1973; it's listed as one of the clips Noggin deleted from the 5th season premiere.
Nostalgia! I remember this since i was 4! :D

@joshuad450 I know "Gumby" also frequently used shots of trains zooming toward the camera back in the olden days.

The ''2'' train doesn't have a tender that is for coal behind the ENGINE! So I think that's a tender-free train.

Does anybody else think that the train's "voice" sounds like Billy Crystal? I bet it's him...

I remember those. Some of them were animated by Joey Ahlbum if I'm not mistaken.
DragonLord1975 4 years ago
@ISNorden Yes, the Swedish Number skits actually originated on a 1970s children's show called Fem Myror for short. They included:
2-Barn animals, elephants, giraffes
3-Mice, Owls, Penguins
4-Elephants, dolphins, ducks
5-Flies, Butterflies, Worms, Swans
6-Camels, Pigs
7-Starfish, things buried in sand, animals in a tree, owls, piglets, rabbits
8-Frogs, bats, arms on an octopus, buttons, eggs hatching, cows, worms
9-Sheep, Penguins, tigers, ants, birds in a tree
