@ronan32 The game show was filmed during the '60's when the space program was a very big thing and the selection of a new group of astronauts who would be training to go to the Moon was a media event.
It is was just a coinidence that the parents they picked were the eventual ones who would have a son on the moon. Not a big coinidence, actually because this group was picked to train to go the moon and all of them expected to go eventually.
@dcleversy Indeed. The average age of the second astronaut group was a bit younger than the first, because the first was initially only expected to be needed until the end of Mercury while the later groups were intended for the much longer Apollo.
Also it was really a 1 in 9 chance that they'd picked Armstrong's folks. It could've been the family Tom Stafford, John Young, Elliott See, Ed White or Jim McDivitt and it wouldn't be nearly as interesting today (though perhaps a bit).
I think you are wrong. Had they chosen the parents of any of the other astronauts it would have been every bit as interesting. They all had their story to tell and all made their contribution. Neil and his crew were not selected for the landing, they just happened to be the next crew on the roster. :)

Had another astronaut made the first landing, or if they asked some other astronauts' parents, it would still be interesting as a glimpse into the fascination with the space program back them (which seems regrettably absent today) wouldn't have the same shock valus of saying "Holy shit! They asked the parents of the guy who would be first about it years before he WAS first!"
Neil was always a cool cucumber; quiet, aloof and never returning anything he borrowed from you. Buzz still hasn't gotten back the Step-Glide manual he gave Neil when Neil lost his (a huge embarrassment to NASA if they ever were to find that out). He only had time to study it for 3 days so that's why his "jump" off the lunar module looks so abrupt and choppy and almost gave away the farm. He forgot that the bungee cords where looser the higher you were relative to the connection point.

No question, niel armstrong went to the moon, but I wonder why they don't they just build a base on the moon, instead of floating around the earth. @evakent The lunarrocks that were collected from the service of the moon, and brought back to earth. Are not on public display that often. Some smaller rocks were given away to a few states as gifts. The majority have been locked away for safe keeping. Back in April of this year there was a small assortment that was on Display in Las Vegas Nevada. They had been on loan from NASA for the week. As far as I know there has never been actual museum display.

On a sunny day, if you look at a backyard or a field with a few scattered trees and small hills and slopes you will easily see that due to the layout of the landscape the shadows of the trees will go off in a direction in accordance to the angle of the land!! I've seen the real life space capsule in Naval Air Station museum and
i couldn't imagine how the computer's electrical systems were protected even with shielding much less a human being from all the radiation in the belt region. These guys should have died of cancer years ago.

Without even getting into physics, you explain why it the above didn't occur if it was filmed on Earth, requiring even greater thrust. There have never been any claims of 'wires' or models regarding the lander, so we can rule that out. Sometimes it's beneficial to put things into perspective, and turn the argument on its head. @ronan32 The game show was filmed during the '60's when the space program was a very big thing and the selection of a new group of astronauts who would be training to go to the Moon was a media event.
It is was just a coinidence that the parents they picked were the eventual ones who would have a son on the moon. Not a big coinidence, actually because this group was picked to train to go the moon and all of them expected to go eventually.

@dcleversy Indeed. The average age of the second astronaut group was a bit younger than the first, because the first was initially only expected to be needed until the end of Mercury while the later groups were intended for the much longer Apollo.
Also it was really a 1 in 9 chance that they'd picked Armstrong's folks. It could've been the family Tom Stafford, John Young, Elliott See, Ed White or Jim McDivitt and it wouldn't be nearly as interesting today (though perhaps a bit).

I think you are wrong. Had they chosen the parents of any of the other astronauts it would have been every bit as interesting. They all had their story to tell and all made their contribution. Neil and his crew were not selected for the landing, they just happened to be the next crew on the roster. :)

Had another astronaut made the first landing, or if they asked some other astronauts' parents, it would still be interesting as a glimpse into the fascination with the space program back them (which seems regrettably absent today) wouldn't have the same shock valus of saying "Holy shit! Neil was always a cool cucumber; quiet, aloof and never returning anything he borrowed from you. Buzz still hasn't gotten back the Step-Glide manual he gave Neil when Neil lost his (a huge embarrassment to NASA if they ever were to find that out). He only had time to study it for 3 days so that's why his "jump" off the lunar module looks so abrupt and choppy and almost gave away the farm. He forgot that the bungee cords where looser the higher you were relative to the connection point.

@evakent The lunarrocks that were collected from the service of the moon, and brought back to earth. Are not on public display that often. Some smaller rocks were given away to a few states as gifts. The majority have been locked away for safe keeping. Back in April of this year there was a small assortment that was on Display in Las Vegas Nevada. They had been on loan from NASA for the week. As far as I know there has never been actual museum display.

On a sunny day, if you look at a backyard or a field with a few scattered trees and small hills and slopes you will easily see that due to the layout of the landscape the shadows of the trees will go off in a direction in accordance to the angle of the land!! I've seen the real life space capsule in Naval Air Station museum and
i couldn't imagine how the computer's electrical systems were protected even with shielding much less a human being from all the radiation in the belt region. These guys should have died of cancer years ago.

@DrVegasIII - Ok, explain why there was no plume when the lander took off (the chemical propellants should have produced a highly discernible red exhaust plume)... and then explain why 5,000 degrees of directed thrust during the landing didn't produce the slightest mark under the lander - nor did it raise a speck of dust as evidenced by the clean feet of the lander. I think it is in 5 years that our new rockets will be ready and we'll pick up where we left off. I for one dont think it makes sense to send people to the moon again. Further, the moon rocks you speak of were just in review by science departments from around the world not even 6 month's ago, I bet you are completely oblivious to that fact.
Its ok that you are in denial but you ought to try and atleast try by doing some REAL research. You guys come in laughing at real science and blowing all kinds of hot air but your lack of real evidence and your hard headed denial of anything factual is just dumb and blatantly ignorant.
