I have always loved this song.

and when pete seeger - mccathy victime, orginal freedom rider - came on to sing it at the inauguration it just blew me away

As I watched on tv i wondered what it would have been like top actually be there.

Now i know - fab, My favorite "Obama moment" - and now from the angle of the people!

What's amazing about this performance is that Pete Seeger got away with singing the 3 banned verses of this song including this last one, a direct indictment of capitalism. I guess HBO cut him off... but UTube proves he actually did sing them.

This is the first time I have commented on these but I, too, want to thank you. As cdozo said it was so wonderful to see Pete Seeger be able to take part in such a great moment in history/herstory. He has worked tirelessly for it!

Pete taught me this song more than 50 years ago and I've been singing it ever since, knowing that it was as true as true could be. Despite his treatment by the US Government thugs, Pete kept singing and now, in part due to his conviction and devotion to freedom, all of America can sing it and know it is true if we make it true. Thank you for posting this - it is a moment I will never forget. He is a true patriot and world treasure. Let's try to be like him, I say. Yes we can!

It's so cool that Pete Seeger was there. He's worked so hard fighting for equality for everyone. I'm glad that he lived to see this. And he sang _all_ the verses too! Way to go Pete!
