Christ Almighty, I can't even imagine. I was starstruck when I first soloed my ultralight in 1998, I really cannot come to grips with this. Good job America.
A great spacecraft. Interesting discussion from the pilots. Popping a wheelie - over compensating for the wheels falling too fast. To think this shuttle system is a price reduction compromise from it's original design.
They were still pulling the crap off that landing strip out of her systems for over a year after. No wonders she took a dislike and pulled a wheelie :-)
Yeah I remember the news casters commenting on that wheelie landing letting out an audible gasp at one point. You have to admit it did come close to scaping ass there...
I was lucky enough to have a press pass and was in the press area for STS-3 as a 16 year old (pretending to be an 18 year old), something you could never pull off nowadays....
Amazing!

Phenominal to watch again via You Tube 28 years later!
What a day (2 actually.) If you were there, I'd love to hear from you!

Columbia WAS the workhorse of the space shuttle fleet, no wonder it was Old Reliable, before it was lost over Louisiana and Texas on Feb. 1, 2003.
