I believ a movie I know is very similar to this one but I can tell that these aren't the actors that play in that movie. The one I'm talking about is called "kleine Meerjungsfrau", which translates to little mermaid. But this story is much more tragic than the Disney version.

A great story about true love and what it means - given the choice to kill the prince and return to the ocean to be a mermaid again or dissolve into the sea, the little mermaid choses the later, because true love is not selfish and is self-sacrificing.

It pains me to see all the ignorant comments about the prince and how he is stupid and should have chosen the mermaid. This is not a friggin' disney movie with a happy ending but the original little mermaid story as written by Hans Christian Andersen, the great Danish storyteller.
