what does directors cut mean, i think i have a slight clue as to what it means but ive never realy been interested untill now

@totopoo123 - For a series/film the editor usually handles the editing (or the 'cut' if you will) with the director chipping in with what he/she likes and doesn't like about it and the editor will then change that if instructed, but a lot of directors leave their editors to it. So the cut of a film is usually the editors work, with final approval from the producers or production company. Something which is a directors cut means the director worked extensively on it and approved it themselves.

@SuperheroNerd213 Manga are the japanese version of western comics, but only in the medium in which they are presented. They are quite different. Anime are the animated shows, movies, OAVs, ONAs etc. that are mostly shown here. The difference of course between anime and western cartoons are that an overwhelming percentage of western cartoons are for children whereas anime has a much, MUCH broader target audience that varies from anime to anime ranging from all age groups to all genres.

i can't find that gurren Lagann box set anywhere. do you know if it's still available?

@blktooth5150 - It is. It's the UK Region 2 one released by Beez that speads the series over three dvd volumes. You can buy each version in standard edition or limited edition. I have the limited edition one which is why it is rather bulky and comes with extra stuff. Even though it is supposedly limited I have never seen it go out of stock. You can get it from Amazon UK though it is rather expensive.

@Toukah yeah, they have a similar one on Amazon US, but it's much bulkier and rather ugly comparatively. The only hang up is i assume your set doesn't have a dub track on it, does it?(I personally prefer dubs, IMO the dub industry has greatly improved over the years.)

@ThePrimuss1 - Well the Region 2 one I have is listed on Amazon as the 'Ultimate Tin Box Collection'. The 'Perfect Collection' is the American one which I don't think includes all the extras the Region 2 one has. They have both been discontinued now though so getting either of them will be very hard.

I wasn't a big fan of Da Capo, actually. If you haven't seen either Kanon or Shuffle! Those are a couple good harem series. Though they both get somewhat dramatic near the end

Blame the slang that had invaded the country. The stereotype that all British people sound posh is so outdated. I try my best to retain the 90s Biritsh dialect, but I live in a very slang-infested area, so its often to no avail. It's not like you Americans are perfect with your vocabulary either though. :-)

I got it at the London MCM Expo two years ago. Only £5. Its the Akira Ultimate Collection if that helps. Perhaps Manga Entertainment's license ran out so its been discontinued. Seems to happen a lot with them. There are some owned copies for okay prices on Amazon though.

As far as Im aware yes, but they're very well made so I wouldn't worry about it. Its also nice that they're limited edition boxsets made just for the UK. Our anime market does get something decent every now and then. :)

Oh, it's an European version. European products are VERY expensive for people in my country. I'm afraid I will have to settle for the US version, which not includes the inserts (booklet and postcards). But that´s so bad because the booklet of your version is extremely nice! T_T

Actually the Japanese prenounce it maynga, which sounds more like manga than it does mahnga. Listen to the sound clip on Wikipedia's manga page. People all say things differently though so I wouldn't make a big deal out of it.

im not stirrin anything up, your collection is great, and i agree, everyone can pronounce crap however they want, but im studying japanese, and i know pronunciation, and 'a' has the ahhhh sound, the letter with the 'ay' (as in maynga) is 'e', but for the record, its not as much 'ay' as it is 'eh', so when pronouncing anime, a native speaker would say 'ahniymeh', instead of 'aynihmey'

Thanks for the comment but I am not a native Japanese speaker and English pronunciation is a lot different from theirs so naturally I'm going to prenounce things differently, as different languages do. As I said, people all say things differently though so I wouldn't make a big deal out of it. Let's not turn this into a pronunciation discussion.
