Nice tut man. If you have a powerful enough computer (sound processing), a high-quality digital mic (preferably not analog), and mastering/eq skills then a USB Interface isn't entirely needed for good quality. It sure helps though. My only problem is cpu underruns from too many 3rd party VST's.. Good luck on the beatmakin'!
did exactly what u said but im having some trouble with something .... i recorded my vocals to a beat and they are in the mixer as insert 2... everytime i try to play the song i have to have insert 2 selected cus if i put it on anything else it doesnt play. and then when i try to export it as mp3 nothing plays when the file is complete....im getting mad lol...if u or anyone have any idea on how i can fix this plz let me know lol
@DABOYSMITTY513 Yo was insert 2 routed to the master channel when you recorded? Make sure the little arrow is highlighted on the master before you record. Click or select insert 2, then go to master channel and JUST click the small Half ass arrow above the Floppy Icon at the bottom. You might have to re-record the vocals tho. Let me know bro...
@i55music Then it would have been a good idea to check the audio level, and to raise it to around 0dB if it was too low before final processing of the video. I wonder if Camstudio's audio levels are ultra-cautious.
@i55music Yo can I use Parametric EQ 2 instead? Thx fam this helped me out alot! Oh and do you have a tutorial on Mixing and Mastering? I like how you explain each detail...
Yea i know what you mean, and im down with what you said, Just thought id share another alrernative. Also, my mixer does have a preamp. Its just since im 15, and music is just a hobby, I try and learn everything i can to compete with these other people. No disrespect either man. I give you props for this vid.
Stop misleading people. Thats what fits your vocals best. Not a rule of thumb for every person. Also, normalize does not "Fatten" up the vocals, it pushes the volume to the max possible without peaking, and your vocals should have "air". Having a USB interface also isn't a MUST, I record with my mixer directly to the soundcard, and it sounds good. Maybe you just need to upgrade your soundcard, instead of misleading people into buying something that is not a MUST.
@MOOKIEMUZIC i agree with the misleading part, but you got a good soundcard and your mixer probably got a build in preamp. so it that isnt realy directly imo

Hey i Have A VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION PLEASE RESPOND !!!!!!!!!!
ok so i bought a usb condenser microphone for my prjects and wen i record vocals is their a way to set it up so that when you click record it doesnt playback your voice while your recording it but you can still hear the beat?! please respond because i try record it works fine but theirs a slight delay and it throws me off the tempo when recording guitar and singing PLEASE RESPOND!!!1
i do appreciate the information but i have to disagree with you in sum things... first Reverb should always be used on everything, in moderation, because reverb is what makes a sound Sound as if it where in a real place like a room, outside etc.second echo is a gud effect but overdoing it can really damage a mix and third recording vocals should always be done in mono because when you record into a microphone you record into one mic not two professional studios will record your vocals in mono
Damn man thanks for thissss :D cuz im trying to make a cd and all that and with this hopefully it makes me sound a lil more pro cuz i am doing hiphop thanks
@kawasakikid800 You can use headphones or record using a separate program (and a metronome) then import the vocal track to FL Studio. Alternatively, you could just mute all the tracks or turn your volume off.
camstudio and fruityloops is two different things ppl, just yurn your volume up all the way please and enjoy the tutorial. The low sound quality is due to camstudio and not fruityloops
hahaha you should of practiced what you preach and cleaned the vocals on this vid. it sounds like sssssssshit. if ya gonna make a vid about clean sound at least have clean sound... it robs credability from what you say. like how am i going to take this mofo serious when the vid sounds like ssssssshit. big ups for the tut though.
Thanks for the help bro, Ima try out these strategies and see what outcome I get! I was laughing my a** off at @6:22!!!! "390, 1609, 11001, 16000, 10, 10, 10!!!"
i know how to record my vocals now...and i have a yamaha keyboard hooked to it too..i can hear both my mic and my keyboard live, the problem is how do i RECORD BOTH MY VOICE AND MY PIANO at the SAME TIME....thanx
@buffyguy10 . Hey. I'ma just jump in to try and answer your question. To record your voice AND your yamaha at the same time, you just record them both at the same time. Simple. Unfortunately, with FL, they'll both be on the same mixer track and you won't be able to tweak them seperately. My best advice is to record them on two different mixer tracks and then tweak them seperately for the best effects and quality for each. To keep time in sync, just use the metronome. Try it out.
Let me explain. Don't normalize, use gain to boost volume. There are only so many bits in a recording and they all have to be shared by the recording, mixing, and mastering processes. Reverb SHOULD def be used, but on a mix bus. Each song should be placed in a "room" (reverb). The approach is picture a band on a stage. Use reverb, channel vol, and panning to place each instrument on the stage. When you normalize and then eq, add vol or anything else, you will get distortion.
@BallyhooProductionz Well we are talking about fruityloops my friends , not your state of the art studio.
I came up with a remedy that can clean vocals with the vsts fruityloops provide, strictly fruityloops stuff. And yes you can clear all air without robbing the mix.
@i55music fl studio is a state of the art studio, u just gotta know who to use it. I get a sound out of it, that ppl think I did in protools HD. But I tell em I did it in FL, but no one believes me. :)
Hey, Bro. My name is Siyfa'Allah-El here at Stillwaters Media Lab. I haven't tried your recommendations and I will, but your explanations inspired me to tell you it might be a good idea if you did more research concerning the technology of audio recording. For example, EQ has nothing to do with stereo vs mono. The air you described is actually called headroom, which if you kill all of it you rob the mix and the mastering engineers of bits required for polished masters. Look into it Bro.
@MegaJozhua easy, in the right hand top corner is a greyed box in the whateva you have the track on in FL studio, lol. Just left click and hold, and scroll up and select the number of the the track you want appear in the number track on the mixer. For instance, if u select number 7 in the top right hand corner of the track, it will be insert 7 in the mixer, Peace
Fuck da haters!!!..I work wit diferent kinds of mics!!..this is very effective for artist or producers on a budget. I cleaned up alot of vocals with this method. Thnks for sharing this technique!!!
Im sorry my dude, but you cant POSSIBLY eq, compress, and process vocals like this all the time... What if you have a ballad, r & b song, and acoustic cover or any thing of that nature. Please teach people the right way to do vocals man. This may be your way, and thats all good, but your handy capping the people that look on youtube for real answers. What if you had Mary J Blige in your studio, would you do her vocals like this! If any one want the real deal on vocals send me a message...

great tutorial however....point blank tho, i HAVE a Delta 44 AND a stock Creative SB onboard and record through it(C-SB) frequently without any of the issues you claim people WILL have without an interface. You're correct in suggesting folks get a REAL interface, but the level of neccessity you lay upon that is bit exaggerated. Recording w/onboard sound shouldn't be a prob as long as the computer is up to par performance wise. Good vid tho
I've used this video to make some real nice sounding music... but I have a problem. How do I export the songs... Seems like every recording that had those effects placed on them does not show up in the final song when you export it. Someone please Help...
hi do yall think that you can get a good quality vocal with fl studio???? or do you think its better on cool edit? i been experimenting and i think fl studio is better but i cant find out how to put good effects like you can on cool edit.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! i was anti fl studio til i finally caved (im a reason purist but 1. you cant record vocals and 2. sonar is a complete resource hog) plus i always had a problem with cleaning up my vocals. you just saved me all the guess work. TY.
i have m-audio interface fast track and i mxl 2001 when i record i hear my voice play back and also the mic is picking up the room noisy and it sounds horrible so i dnt know if its from the interface or the laptop (vista ) or the mic
@mafia03G3 windscreen and pop filter should help a bit. i have a mxl usb condenser mic .006 and have no problems, but mixing my vocals. I know this man personally, infact he's a brother and he really helped me just on how to record vocals I didn't even know how to do that.
its a nasty noise wich kills the whole beat when i start rapping its when u normalize it,,i have it connected in the front where the microphone symbol shows
ey man i tried it,it is good the only thing i dont like is when u rap or somethin and normalize it,because it makes a weird loud noise is there a way to delete it
I would just like to say thank you for what you did. Not too many peopl would be kind enough to break this down. Thank you for all your help! God bless you!
this vid is tight! i appreciate it! what do you mean "in the back of the sound card?" plugged into the back of the computer? is it possible to fashion a make-shift p-board AND use "dc offset?" fl studio is beastin' every day! so much i don't understand though. I appreciate this advice. Did you work those #'s to your liking or just kinda mess with 'em? Thanks again. Could I use FL for recording songs on my vids?
Thanks so much, should help our sound quality alot man!

hey, your vocals are a lil low on this video though! ha ha but hey what do you think is a decent sort of economically priced mic?
know any cool VST plug ins?
I have used addictive drums, homboyz, some freeware ect...
thx

its a nasty noise wich kills the whole beat when i start rapping its when u normalize it,,i have it connected in the front where the microphone symbol shows
LimitedSickness 2 years ago
Are u using a audio interface for your mic.And what type of mic are you using.
i55music 2 years ago
ey man i tried it,it is good the only thing i dont like is when u rap or somethin and normalize it,because it makes a weird loud noise is there a way to delete it
LimitedSickness 2 years ago
What kind of noise! If you have a mic in the back of your soundcard that will be the problem.Get you a usb audio interface.

this vid is tight! i appreciate it! what do you mean "in the back of the sound card?" plugged into the back of the computer? is it possible to fashion a make-shift p-board AND use "dc offset?" fl studio is beastin' every day! so much i don't understand though. I appreciate this advice. Did you work those #'s to your liking or just kinda mess with 'em? Thanks again. Could I use FL for recording songs on my vids?
