@mysterykid157 If that's how you feel, then I think you missed a good portion of the story. Even if it wasn't Tom Cruise, but another white actor, it would still hold the same meaning. If it were a Japanese man instead, it would have defeated the entire purpose. It is supposed to be a tale of destiny, self-discovery, and the understanding of a dying culture. A western man who is caught in a completely alien culture opens his eyes and give his heart to these ancient traditions. That is the point.

@Millnatapol; I think you should watch it again, because it does focus a lot on the samurais. They gave their lives in an unrelenting final attack. To me, that makes them heroes, Tom Cruise's character just happened to be a guy that opened his eyes and showed the samurai that not all Americans were bad guys.

Yes they could have focused more on a Japanese actor to be the star but the movie already stars Ken Watanabe and Tom Cruise. Also, if the movie never had someone as big as Tom Cruise in it and PRODUCING it then it wouldn't have been as big a hit as it has been. Be realistic mate.
