The Mc xas a true sport car, made for pure driver pleasure: no power steering, no comfort, lot of noise and very hard to drive fast!!! The Veyron is the exact opposite!! Both are fantastic machines but soooo different!! Would you compare a Bentley Arnage and a GT3 RS??
I think this the last real supercar to have reached such ridiculous top speed, naturally aspirated meaning no turbos or superchargers, and devoid of any electronic driver assistance.
Aside from the peformance, I think this car simply emits an "aura" that will leave in the hearts of pure automotive enthusiasts.
The Veyron, Apollo, Atom, CCX... and more of the new top-speed supercars are coming out, even the new Zonda, but what keeps us coming back here!?

It is a pure bread racing machine without all the fancy gizmo's and safety features that the Bugatti has. The Bugatti needs a 8.0 W16 with 4 turbo charges (1001 BHP) just to be the fastest car in the world while the Mclaren had a v12 627 BHP engine that made it the fastest. Bugatti = Good car

the veyron's practical topspeed is 235mph. end of story. the topspeed key gimmick is a cheat, lowering the car such that it cannot go over a speed bump, cannot brake, cannot turn.....and you must come to a complete deadass stop to activate it.Who would want to do that on a track, or on a autobahn. the traffic will kill you.In fact, the ground clearance is not even street legal.
i can do the same thing on the mc f1: lower the suspension. lower the drag from 0.32 to 0.26, and have it do 260

in a race from 50kmh-topspeed the mclaren f1 , or any other supercar will own the veyron. Why? coz veyron does 50 in normal mode. It has to stop, insert the key, lower down, do a check up and then accelerate. easily over 1 minute.by then the mc f1 is already at 386kmh.
the topspeed key activates topspeed mode. veyron lowers, until the ground clearnace is only a dozen mm, cant clear speed bump. That lowers the drag from 0.42 to 0.36. The spoiler goes in. That makes it unstable for cornering and braking. Thats why no turning or brake in tospeed mode. Cant activate while moving? why? The change makes its aero unstable.
despite 1000hp, in practical mode it cant even do 235mph.
@ASSHOLELA As Gordon Murray (designer of the F1) estimated in his R&T comparison article of the F1 and Veyron - he said turbocharge the F1 to match the Veyron's 1001hp and with the correct gearing it'd do 281mph. The F1's goal was never top speed, that was just a happy accident!

LESS power than 627hp. only 600hp. lengthen the gears, or add 7th, 250mph. The F1 that went on ehra is a standard f1. there is F1 with the LM engine, 691hp. Remove the wing,put that on ehra, 255mph . No more veyron record.

because gordon murray wasnt chasing the topspeed record in the first place.It was built for practicality. Putting turboes will result in turbo lag, unless u build a quad turbo w16 that weighs 450kg. Lowering the f1 will make it aerodynamically unstable for turning, like veyron topspeed mode.
the veyron SS is by far the fastest car, faster than the even the 2010 SSC. i've got great respect for it but for sure, it wont do more than 247mph without resorting to topspeed mode
But you are acting like you have to start a car off with only one key in? You can start a race or just drive your car with both keys in. You can drive it with both keys in sure you will not want to do very high speeds but you can drive on the streets with the second key in.
it doesnt matter what keys you insert, the problem is what MODE the veyron is in. With the TS key, its in topspeed mode, when you brake or turn, even if the key is still in, it will switch back to Handling Mode. Then when you want to do 250mph again you must STOP,pluck out and reinsert the key, and wait 1 minute before it shifts back to TS mode.
And you must do that EVERY TURN OR BRAKE. Very dangerous on a highway with traffic. Even worse on a track, it adds 1 minute every time you do that.
If this was so then the Veyron wouldn't make it on any track and it wouldn't have set the new record. If you watch the video of it setting the new record you will see that it has to take the bend at over 120MPH. He is turning the wheel there m8t. If the one engine turned off then you when you turned the wheel it would have done it there. Now you are right about it having to be at a stop to ingage the second key but it can then go on. If you are correct it wouldn't have been.........
u seem to have a misconception about the TS key. for once, it doesnt result in more hp and more low end accel.The TS key makes it more aerodynamic and making a higher topspeed, and higher >210mph accel. All other non topspeed tracks except maybe lemans do not allow the veyron to reach even 235mph, even the 'Ring 1.5 mile, which reaches around 225mph. Therefore TS mode is irrelevant. Entire laps are done in Handling mode.
post a lap time on the Nurgburgring. Also there are many videos of the Veyron showing off its acceleration on youtube. Most of which are on the street. The car could not preform like it does in the videos without the second key inserted.
and as for ehra, there was steering wheel turning buts thats marginal, less than 15 degrees because of the banking. Bugatti states that any turn of the steering wheel above 15 degrees would snap the TS mode out.
On track corners, and when turning into a highway or road intersection, you definately have to turn more than 15 degrees, snapping the TS mode out.these are the PRACTICAL turns people will encounter.So TS mode and >235mph simply cant be done in a practical setting.

After you insert the second key the rear spoiler sinks down and the car does also. Allowing it to reach its top speed and have all 1001 HP. I assure you that you are incorrect about this whole thing. B) doing a record run on an oval like this will be compensated, via calculation, to a "straight line speed", as the car is facing more friction going on oval then on a straight line, doing 190 on oval definitely deserve a 210+ as on the straight line
T Model Ford was the fastest once as well. Its called technology advancement. the fact is it's old school now. The Aero has already out done the 257mph bracket and the Mosler has produced a car that is 1800hp yet to be tested claimed 270mph and 0 to 60 time @ 2.5secs.
The worse thing about the McLaren is you can not drive it for more than 10 minutes without going deaf you require earphone similar to sitting in a helicopter which is bloody ridculous.

if u see the video with the veyron and the mclaren you will see that the bugatti is faster...at least in the end...it just has more that 350bhp more only the weight keeps it slower at lower speeds... also the newest car is better aerodynamicaly and that gives a huge advantage above 150-170 mph

Yep that is true. There is no way the F1 took the Veyron off the line. The traction control was on and I don't think they gave it full go from the start. Just to make it interesting and bc the F1 is British and the Veyron is German.
Forget about the 300bhp+ difference. Theres not a lot in it between the McLaren and the Veyron and the McLaren is 17 years old, i think thats amazing, McLaren F1 best car ever built.

The McLaren F1 weighs a ton less than the Veyron, and is RWD... AWD cars loose the most power top end when RWD loose the least! I'm not taking anything away from the F1... I'm just saying in todays world it can't match up with the Veyron. Let alone the Veyron SS!

The F1 is super unstable at very very high speeds where the Veyron isn't. They Veyron has just as stable at 200 as it is at 100. Where as you can see in the video the F1 isn't.

@scoobyfan2009 Sorry but that's bollox. This is the F1 doing a lap of a track at close to 200mph. The only vids on here of a veyron anywhere near that speed are at Ehra-Lessien on a 5 mile+ straight. The veyron is two W8's welded together. It uses 4wd because the chassis has no tactility and can only do it's claimed top speed at about 3 places in the world because in fast mode it doesn't have the clearance for other tracks. It's overweight through lazy design and nothing more.
Yeah well it is over weight because of the luxuries it has. So if anything that is against the F1 or any other car for the matter. It is faster even weighing nearly 2x almost every car that can get even remotely close to the Veyrons speed.
@scoobyfan2009 Sorry but it's not overweight because of luxuries. It's a fairly small 2 seat car. There's only so much a leather seat can weigh. It's overweight because of it's design philosophy - make everything bigger. The engine doesn't make a lot of power for it's size. It's equivalent to a mid 90's impreza/evo on cc, ccper cylinder, cylinders per turbo, etc - hardly pushing tech limits when there are new evo's that crack 400bhp. At that level the veyron's massive engine would be at 1600hp.

Well ZR-1 is a rather new car, the Mclaren is an all time best.
But the components wich make the ZR-1 such a good car in comparison with the standard Corvette are taken from the best supercars Europe can offer like the brakes from the Enzo.
Still US cars are nice on the outside, but for the finishing inside, ain't better than an 80's Japanese car, that's why you get them cars for discount prices in comparison to well engeneered cars from Europe :P

I think it's Gordon Murray commissioning BMW for the engine, and the gearbox at this level of engineering, is rather common that the gearbox goes along with the engine

hp is crap if you weight too much. Veyron is not just heavier it's 2 times heavier than F1!! That means a much better power to weight ratio for F1 - 0.7 per 1 kilo compared to 0.5 per 1 kilo for Veyron.
Having almost same parameters acceleration 0-100 2.5 and 2.9, top speed 407 and 390 (rev limiter removed) much lighter and manoeuvrable F1 will still have the upper-hand in every competition except a long distance drag where Veyron's sheer power and top speed will be the only decisive factor.
The Buggatti has better accellaration and a stronger engine, but weight slows it down, so at their top spped the McLaren is faster. So both are just as good as each other. (By the way, who thinks the Buggatti stole the McLarens look)
dude the veyron has better bhp (1001) and better acceleration (0-60 2.5) and better top speed (254 mph) it may b heavier but the power makes up for that an it is loike 12 secs faster than the mclaren, also it looks completely different
If you think the Mclaren really is better, then look on Fifth Gears' channel where Tiff drives the Veyron with traction control on, and off, and see how well the 'heavy bull' car maneuvers.
I'm not a veyron fan really, but the bugatti destroys the mclaren to 200 and to top speed and thanks to it's 4 wheel drive is much less of a handful around a track.

in a race from 50kmh-topspeed the mclaren f1 , or any other supercar will own the veyron. Why? coz veyron does 50 in normal mode. It has to stop, insert the key, lower down, do a check up and then accelerate. easily over 1 minute.by then the mc f1 is already at 386kmh.

the topspeed key activates topspeed mode. veyron lowers, until the ground clearnace is only a dozen mm, cant clear speed bump. That lowers the drag from 0.42 to 0.36. The spoiler goes in. That makes it unstable for cornering and braking. Thats why no turning or brake in tospeed mode. Cant activate while moving? why? The change makes its aero unstable.
despite 1000hp, in practical mode it cant even do 235mph.

There is ALOT mclaren can do to make f1 faster. Especially the engine.Turbo to 850hp, easily 275mph.and the 391kmh is reached at 7860rpm. LESS power than 627hp. only 600hp. lengthen the gears, or add 7th, 250mph. The F1 that went on ehra is a standard f1. there is F1 with the LM engine, 691hp. Remove the wing,put that on ehra, 255mph . No more veyron record.

because gordon murray wasnt chasing the topspeed record in the first place.It was built for practicality. Putting turboes will result in turbo lag, unless u build a quad turbo w16 that weighs 450kg. Lowering the f1 will make it aerodynamically unstable for turning, like veyron topspeed mode.
the veyron SS is by far the fastest car, faster than the even the 2010 SSC. i've got great respect for it but for sure, it wont do more than 247mph without resorting to topspeed mode

it doesnt matter what keys you insert, the problem is what MODE the veyron is in. With the TS key, its in topspeed mode, when you brake or turn, even if the key is still in, it will switch back to Handling Mode. Then when you want to do 250mph again you must STOP,pluck out and reinsert the key, and wait 1 minute before it shifts back to TS mode.
And you must do that EVERY TURN OR BRAKE. Very dangerous on a highway with traffic. Even worse on a track, it adds 1 minute every time you do that.

If this was so then the Veyron wouldn't make it on any track and it wouldn't have set the new record. If you watch the video of it setting the new record you will see that it has to take the bend at over 120MPH. He is turning the wheel there m8t. If the one engine turned off then you when you turned the wheel it would have done it there. Now you are right about it having to be at a stop to ingage the second key but it can then go on. If you are correct it wouldn't have been.........

u seem to have a misconception about the TS key. for once, it doesnt result in more hp and more low end accel.The TS key makes it more aerodynamic and making a higher topspeed, and higher >210mph accel. All other non topspeed tracks except maybe lemans do not allow the veyron to reach even 235mph, even the 'Ring 1.5 mile, which reaches around 225mph. Therefore TS mode is irrelevant. Entire laps are done in Handling mode.

and as for ehra, there was steering wheel turning buts thats marginal, less than 15 degrees because of the banking. Bugatti states that any turn of the steering wheel above 15 degrees would snap the TS mode out.
On track corners, and when turning into a highway or road intersection, you definately have to turn more than 15 degrees, snapping the TS mode out.these are the PRACTICAL turns people will encounter.So TS mode and >235mph simply cant be done in a practical setting.

When you put TS mode you reach 250mph but turning is so bad, its UNSTABLE.
When you put handling mode on you dont reach 250mph but the turning is better.
Its like f1 cars ok either they put all the spoilers and increase drag and downforce so they can turn 5Gs but cant do 200mph or they get rid of the spoilers and do 200mph but cannot turn 5Gs.TS mode does not make the veyron perform better. it has trade offs.

T Model Ford was the fastest once as well. Its called technology advancement. the fact is it's old school now. The Aero has already out done the 257mph bracket and the Mosler has produced a car that is 1800hp yet to be tested claimed 270mph and 0 to 60 time @ 2.5secs.
The worse thing about the McLaren is you can not drive it for more than 10 minutes without going deaf you require earphone similar to sitting in a helicopter which is bloody ridculous.

if u see the video with the veyron and the mclaren you will see that the bugatti is faster...at least in the end...it just has more that 350bhp more only the weight keeps it slower at lower speeds... also the newest car is better aerodynamicaly and that gives a huge advantage above 150-170 mph

@scoobyfan2009 Sorry but that's bollox. This is the F1 doing a lap of a track at close to 200mph. The only vids on here of a veyron anywhere near that speed are at Ehra-Lessien on a 5 mile+ straight. The veyron is two W8's welded together. It uses 4wd because the chassis has no tactility and can only do it's claimed top speed at about 3 places in the world because in fast mode it doesn't have the clearance for other tracks. It's overweight through lazy design and nothing more.

@scoobyfan2009 Sorry but it's not overweight because of luxuries. It's a fairly small 2 seat car. There's only so much a leather seat can weigh. It's overweight because of it's design philosophy - make everything bigger. The engine doesn't make a lot of power for it's size. It's equivalent to a mid 90's impreza/evo on cc, ccper cylinder, cylinders per turbo, etc - hardly pushing tech limits when there are new evo's that crack 400bhp. At that level the veyron's massive engine would be at 1600hp.

@scoobyfan2009 It also has lots of radiators - something it only needs because they had to keep it streamlined for top speed (which at that level is nothing more than bragging rights) so couldn't channel enough air through less rads to keep it cool.
No new tech, no new design - just sheer size which is shortly to be blown away by 2 or 3 cars currently in the pipeline.

there are calculations of compensating the car going along the circuit. If it can do 200 in the circuit, the calculation may show 215+ on a straight

Well ZR-1 is a rather new car, the Mclaren is an all time best.
But the components wich make the ZR-1 such a good car in comparison with the standard Corvette are taken from the best supercars Europe can offer like the brakes from the Enzo.
Still US cars are nice on the outside, but for the finishing inside, ain't better than an 80's Japanese car, that's why you get them cars for discount prices in comparison to well engeneered cars from Europe :P

hp is crap if you weight too much. Veyron is not just heavier it's 2 times heavier than F1!! That means a much better power to weight ratio for F1 - 0.7 per 1 kilo compared to 0.5 per 1 kilo for Veyron.
Having almost same parameters acceleration 0-100 2.5 and 2.9, top speed 407 and 390 (rev limiter removed) much lighter and manoeuvrable F1 will still have the upper-hand in every competition except a long distance drag where Veyron's sheer power and top speed will be the only decisive factor.
