  • Now if I could get my Slant Six to sound like that

  • I was there for many of the Mopar at E-town events, including this one. I was just a spectator for 1988, but I ran my 70 Duster at the 1989 show, and my 72 Demon at the 1991 show. I sure do miss those cars & those days too.

  • I am 65 now,had a 68 formula-s cuda,340. Just to much fun. Those days are now gone. Replaced with computers. Is good to see the old days again.

  • i got sox & martins autographs :)

  • That they were too fast to compete...

  • Sad that everytime mopar won a big event, they got 100lbs thrown on they're car cause of all the chevy guys pulling strings in the NHRA. I love MOPAR and like chevy. But that was a little unacceptable and a complement to mopar

  • I love the Motown Missle 71 Challenger!!

  • That was an absolute joy to watch. With sound, no less! Thanks much.

  • i think i just jizzed myself

  • Sox must've missed a shift or went deep. Ran an 11.10 on a 10.20 it looks like.

  • Ronnie Sox RULES...... Period!

  • I was there was a member of moparformce one of the clubs sponcering the event oh those were the days

  • dude u got some kickass mopar vids on here. keep it up. can't wait to see ur bird with stroker in it. and yeah we are gettin old

  • The Duster came later, in either '72 or '73 I believe.

  • This brings back memories thanks for uploading this ,I have been to Englishtown many times and saw Sox and Martin run there and Dick Landy , The Fords and Chevys, there was a Gto there that was powered by a 454 that was a terror and a plymouth cuda 340 that was beating the Hemis

  • WHO WON?

  • It wasn't about who won. it was about the nostalgia of the two old race cars being out on the track together.

  • @OneBadSuperbird you did say versus though. they are sweet though. id like the challenger

  • RIP Ronnie!!!!

  • >>>solid video!

I always wanted to go to an event like this...never had the chance to...so its nice to scope these videos online

    thanks

  • AHH the good ole days... to bad im growin up in a world of ricers and import junk :( but my mopar does its part...

  • 1989 or not, this is cool as heck! I used to own a '67 Formula 'S' Barracuda that was a Sox & Martin replica (12.0's in street trim on motor) and EVERY cop in town knew that car. One day I got 3 tickets for simply cruising. The citations were for "altered exhaust" because it was easy to see the fender well Hooker headers that virtually any A-Body Mopar used with a big block engine. Great posts, OneBadSuperbird! Thanks for the memories.

  • Hey, I'm glad you enjoyed the videos! Thanks for sharing the memories of your old '67 Cuda!

  • freaking awesome post more please

  • I've got several other Sox & Martin videos posted. Click on some of the rest of my videos and check em out. Thanks for stopping by!

  • Wow... looks like Sox left on him big time

  • Ah yes. The good old drag racing. Those days were awesome.

  • Love the video..

  • Thanks! Be sure and check out some of the other videos we have posted here on YouTube.

  • Ohh yes.. this is how cars are suppost to sound like.. it is also THE BEST DRAG RACING EVER!! none of this turbo powered NOS set-ups this is awesome! thanks for posting!

    MOPAR OR NO CAR!

  • Them were definitely the days. Thanks for stopping by and watching!

  • ur videos are prolly the best ive seen i love MOPAR

  • Thanks! I really appreciate the compliment! I have more planned so stay tuned!

  • ya uve got a great collection of classic MOPAR history, this chelsea place is near detroit right? if i ever go there i should go here.

  • Yup, the Chrysler Proving Grounds in Chelsea, Michigan is about 45 minutes east of downtown Detroit. It is not open to the public though. They used to have some Mopar events there back in the early to mid-1980's but I think all's they have now is an occasional open house for Chrysler employees.

  • Your Uncle may own one of the Sox and Martin cars. As most professional racers they owned numerous cars through the years. These cars were fun because there was much more room for driver error since they had to manually shift the gears versus today's clutch-less shifted transmissions. Ronnie Sox was one of the all time best at power shifting the old manual four speeds.Bill Grumpy Jenkins, Dyno Don Nicholson were all great drivers for Mopar,Chevy and Ford.A time when we truly had factory hotrods!

  • Very well said! Thanks for checking out the video!

  • Wow 35-36 seconds was amaisning

  • all of it was!

  • i have seen the sox & martin in many magazines

  • My friends uncle owns the sox&martin car now and had it restored and it is in New Jersey

  • yeah buddy !! back in the day i had mpc models of both car. i wanna see dandy dick landy. i loved his car too. thanks for the upload !!

  • Loved that challenger...

  • I suddenly got a case of blue balls at the end of the video clip. Obviously its just a teaser clip. Mopar rocks!

  • Yeah the challenger caught the cuda.

  • my grandfather beat the sox and martin cuda with his 69 cuda back in the day at capitol raceway... sad thing is but my aunt blew the motor and we never have had time to fix it so its sitting in my back yard gatering rust while i work on my 70 cuda

  • Fantastic!

  • Now THAT is what I call I call a drag race between heavyweights. Looks like Ronnie caught him sleeping though.

  • its great to see someone argue a brand new $100,000+whatever car versus a cars thats over 30 years old technology wise, yet the new car if faster is really not alot faster. its all apples and oranges anyways, what was being made 30 years ago by the euros that were mass produced with the kinda of HP numbers the muscle has? even today, sports cars like that are so rare anywhere..whats it matter?

  • lol sorry, i posted the wrong reply on the wrong video..meant to go to those arguing on that chally/lambo vid..anyways, Sox and Martin rule forever as does the Missile, seeing the S&M car at the nats i was inspired by the scoop enough to put one on my challenger. great stuff

  • an aston martin db5 had 314 bhp and its lighter

  • You have no clue what kind of HP numbers these cars are pushing, do you?

They'd practically have to neuter the engines in those cars to bring them down to 314 HP.

  • Damn, that 'Cuda launched HARD!

  • Curious to know who was piloting the Missle? Who owns that car now?

  • Good questions! It was well publicized that Ronnie was there that weekend but I have no recollection of who was piloting the Missile or who owns it now. Anyone out there have any input?

  • the last time i saw it was in don garlits drag racing museum in 94 ocala fla.

  • Love 'em both to death but esp the S&M Cuda, one of the most winning race cars in the history of motorsports!

  • I love classic dragracing

  • poormansmissile your such a fucking jerk and i bet you don't know a thing about missiles

  • Ok smart ass then what year did they build the challenger, cuda, duster, colt "yes a colt" and the wire car, you do know what the wire car is.

  • The challenger was a 70 updated to a 71.The 'cuda in 72, the duster in 73,the colt..around 77, Donny died in it..and the wire car around 74..Joe Pappas worked on it..and it never raced! I've been around cars and mechanics most of my life..not to mention being a professional chauffeur in Europe!! Girls go fast too! One of my cars is a little Shelby Daytona..signed by Carroll Shelby himself!

  • Not to start a war with you but the missile cuda was built in late '71, it was in Hot Rod Jan.'72 issue.

The mopar missile duster was built in mid '72 regrilled in early '73, Car Craft Mar.'73. issue.

The colt I was talking about was built in '73 after the duster never raced by Carlton.

The altered colt was the fourth and last Rod Shop car that Don raced.

I'm an engine builder and my boss is been in the business for 38 yrs.

  • Well I have been married to a mechanic since I was 18 so that would be 30 years plus my hudsband has been a mechanic for over 30 years and we personally know Dick Oldfield and the rest of the gang so I think I will go with him and Dick's information instead of yours. You weren't clear on which cars so I stand behind my answer! Plus I can go and touch the 72 cuda anytime I want! Even my own car was built the year before it states...all of them are duh! But technically the Cuda is a 72!

  • 71 dood

  • Racing is cool, but I'm a stocker at heart.

  • The guitarslinger guy obviously doesn't know what a 71 Challenger grille looks like.. I owned a 71 Challenger for 12 years, so I ought to know!! The Challenger in this video HAS A 71 GRILLE. The 70 grille is one piece, the 71 is split into two halves in the middle. The video quality is too poor for me to clearly see the tailight panel, but it most definately has a 71 grille.

  • its a 71 challenger

  • cool vid , 70 challenger not 71 /

  • Thanks! That IS a '71 Challenger though. I filmed that car at many a Mopar event. It's tough to see in the low-res video but if you look at the very, very end, you can see there are no backup lights between the taillights and that it is a '71 tail panel. Other shots I have clearly show the '71 grille and tail panel as well.

  • It was built in '70 and regrilled in '71.

I wasn't to impressed with the restoration that they did it looked like they cut the full cage out and relettered it.

It also still has the rear quarters wacked out to fit bigger slicks.

I was hoping they would restore it the way Don Carlton ran it.

  • man this brings back great memories of the late sixties.. id nag my dad to take me to see

ronnie sox-mr shifter at capitol raceway(md) he never disapointed me...

  • That's really cool to hear stuff like that. Thanks for sharing!

  • hey, I thank you... those were really special days. muscle cars were plentiful( a fully loaded gtx with a 440 for $4,200) and u didnt have to go to the dragstrip to see plenty of action.. thnx for the memories... mike

  • 68 440 roadrunner 2500 new. ps that is a 70 challenger not a 71 look at the grille

  • God Bless Ma MoPar! Thanks fpr posting, Eddie

  • This video is from the Mopars at Englishtown event back in June of 1989.

  • Thank you Captain Obvious! If you look off to the right hand side of the page to the right of the video screen, you will see a description of the video that says "Step back in time to the 1989 Mopars At Englishtown event and watch Mr. Four Speed Ronnie Sox in his 1968 Super Stock Hemi Cuda take on the Motown Missile Pro Stock 1971 Hemi Challenger."

  • 70 grill in challenger

  • Trust me, it's a '71 grille, it's just hard to see in the low-res video. I've got several other shots of the car in the pits that weekend and it is definitely a '71 grille in the car.

  • bill shrewsbury was known as mr 4 speed. his 440 and hemi darts were unstoppable.i have a friend in scranton pennsylvania, bob george, from bob george race interprises,he has 5 68 hemi darts and 2 68 hemi cudas .they all run low 8s

  • Great vid John..keep em coming!!

The "deal" is that OneBad does this for a living, so what your seeing is his income.

  • Even with the engine missing still turned a mid 9sec. pass!

  • those things both eat my car for an afternoon snack..

  • I love the cars, but whats the deal with cutting these clips short before the end of the race. I'm getting a case of blue-balls every time!!!

  • I am a Detroit Dragway veteran and could not agree more! get those natzi laughing gas powered sewing machines off our American tracks and bring back real drag raceing. Nostalgia!!! from stock up to top fuel the way they they used to run em' I would pay good money to see it. Listening NHRA?

  • We all need to let NHRA know our feelings to our division directors, maybe that will help, I realize that all the fans out there are not from the era that we like and enjoyed in those glory days, however the sport has gotten totally away from the roots that put it where it's at today.......nuff said

  • Mopar or no car

  • ss/a ss/b was where it was at!!!! pro stock /pro street suck arse, nitrous is bs ,factory power rules!!! we have 1 race hemi, 1 street hemi, 1 413wedge, 10 440s 3 383s and over 60 cars between our crewof 10 guys!! a 63 windsor is the oldest, 2 69 1/2 six pak bees, 10 roadrunners 68-74,all big block.. mopar...is there any other way???????

  • yeah i'm getting bored of the stupid nhra

    we need muscle cars!!!

    and lots of em'

  • Awesome Footage! I love the old match races. Nothing can touch the old Mopars.

  • What needs to happen is for NHRA to have a nostalgia PRO STOCK class, and replace the boring PRO STOCK TURTLE SHELL CARS THAT ONLY A FEW GUYS EVER WIN EVERY RACE. IT SEEMS LIKE THOSE FEW ARE CHEATING THE RULES SOMEWAY SOMEHOW. BORING BORING BORING! LET SEE THE OLD WHEELSTANDING MOUNTAIN MOTOR BEAST"S FROM THE LATE 60'S AND EARLY 70'S get it on, with a "TRUE" 4 SPEED TRANNY, now lets see who wins eavery week! Are your listening NHRA,I SURE HOPE SO!WAKE UP DRAG RACING WORLD!

  • Hey, I think he's got a point there!

  • couldnt agree more. You should look into Nostalic super stock class. My uncle has a 65 hemi belvedere. Thats what class he runs in.

  • Oh I'm very aware of the N S/S class(es). There's nothing better on the drag strips right now, Im a mopar fan, but I love all and everything under say around 72'. Dang super gas is boring, dang bore/stock is boreing, etc, etc, I'm fed up with the pro classes including funny cars that look like a UFO,when Stock and super stock finishes I go to the pits and look at the same and spend my time chating those REAL HEROES of drag racing without them where would the sport be right now.

  • What about Comp Eliminator??? Gotta love the variety!

  • Next to Stock And Super Stock it's my favorite eliminator, it at least has some cars, gasser's, altered's, front motor digger's still showing us the way it used to be!

  • The topfuel cars sound like they are ideling 5000 rpms and now they are running the whimppee 85% pop gone are the true sounds of a topfuel motor on 100% pop gone are the dryhops they used to do gone are the dryburnouts they used to do gone are the funny cars that used to at least look like a "car" not a freakin turtle shell with wings attached to it Im very sick and tired of the way the sport has gone in the last five to ten years

  • Sox & Martin killed Motown on the lights!

  • he red lighted actually.

Dont you see the win light in Motown's lane on the board? Haha

    Luv from Detroit

  • i want to buy the motown missle, and bracket race it, thats the baddest sounding mill ive ever heard!

  • man i think i was standing right next to you

  • Sure brings back the memories, don't ir?

  • i was 15 and it was the time of my life it just aint the same anymore

  • I totally hear what you're saying...
