@CinCinBreezy bwahahah janis Joplin is NOT the original singer the song was sung by erma franklin the sister of aretha franklin it was a R&B song first
@21ricky666 this song was originally sung by Aretha franklin's sister Erma who was a R&B singer then it was COVERED by janis you people really need to do your research dumb asses
@zachmasterzach don't know if you remember your comment from two months ago, on this Beverly Knight video (singing "Piece of My Heart"), but if no one told you already, Erma Franklin sang this first, it was later covered by Janis Joplin, that is what was meant in the comments from the uploader
I have never heard a woman sing like her before. She's unbelievable live. She makes me fell like standing up and having a go myself. Wouldn't do that to the neighbours though.
You're right. This is not a cover this is a new "Rendition". A "Cover" trys to duplicate the sound of the "Hit" version of the song. To call this a cover is an insult to Beverley"s very fine new rendition. DAMN GIRL! You nailed this!
First, this song is not originally by Janis Joplin, but by Erma Franklin (Aretha's elder sister).
Second, Beverley does a heck of a job with this version. The only bad version I know is Faith Hill's who took the soul out of one of the most soulful songs ever.
i know this is a cover but the reason this song is so great is because it is so RAW vocally. you have a great voice and your pretty... now show us your soul... your RAW emotions
Thank you from my heart Beverley!! :-) Wow. What a fantastic song. I like Erma Franklin's version of this, too And I liked the album Janis did with horns - "Got Them ole Kozmic Blues" As a tenor player (songs up on Youtube) this takes me back and I will find more of his stuff...Great voice and a f-o-x besides.
The only version of this song I love is the original by Erma Franklin. I like Janis's cover just fine, and I think Joss Stone and Melissa Etheridge did a great job on it. I don't think this chick's voice is powerful enough for this song.
I love Janis Joplin. But I think this girl did a great job singing her song. I think Janis Joplin would have been honored. RIP Janis. We will always love you.
I'd rather listen to this version than the original. Neither of them are written by the singer, so the notion that the original is better is countenanced, and merely becomes a contest between which one sounds better. And to me its this one
This version isn't the same. Good job though. I just like the grit of Janis' voice. You don't have that and I feel that pretty much any girl that's a decent singer could do just as good.
i like both.. tbh original is quirky.. but to an extent her voice is just from alcy/smoking or w/e and sometimes nice to hear a good song sung with a nice voice =(
i just like Janis' version a lot better. This ones too like R&B'ish/soulful for me.... I just love hearing Janis sing the F outta the song, know what I mean?
You know, longbeachlt, I don't see you albums anywhere.... or your professional youtube videos, etc..... ????? I'm pretty confused at your comment now.
How about you open your mind and close your mouth. =) Yes Janis is a legend. Janis did her songs her way so why not let Bev do it her way. We only had and needed one Janis. If we had 1 million people that sounded like Janis then she wouldn't be special. She would be a bit ordinary. Hall of fames are not filled with ordinary people.
And original artists don't mimic covers. They make it different. Bev did this by making it more r'n'b and more soulful.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I see your point. I think, however, that even with her modifications and "interpretation," it still sounds like a piece of garbage pop record, not much better than Britney Spears. Wait, That's not fair. It's clear that maybe this Beverely character CAN sing, so maybe it's as bad as Christina Aguleria. Point is, It is still an affront to both the original and definitive version of this song, and Janis Joplin would have probably spit on this record if she heard it.
I like Beverly Knight and Gospel is just fine- she used to sing in the Church. I think she has a degree in relgion/ theology. Great artist and not full of the Bull shit that is the music industry in my opinion.
Possibly best version ever along with Erma they have got what it takes to make this become a classic! Janis is ruined by poor backing group, shame but these two take it by a mile!
no offence to all the berverly knight fans out there, but janis' version is wayyy better, she sounds like axl rose, it really suits the song. Beverly made it sound like a gospel.
I liked this! Not bad at all but for some reason I like Janis Joplin's the best. Janis put so much feeling into everything, so much soul, R.I.P. Janis!
I love Melissa's version. I love Pink's version! I love Faith's 2nd version. I loved the first until i heard her second version. I really like Bev's version. She would have to be fourth. I never heard Erma's version. I'm not that old. I've heard Janis's version but her voice is very gritty and raw.
She reminds me of a cross between Stephanie Mills and Tina Turner.what an interesting voice.I think that this young lady will fare well in this business. The only "down" side of this performance is that the background singers sound like the Mormon Tabernacle Choir- they just weren't gritty and soulful enough for my personal taste. By the way- does anyone know why these young singers are dipping all into Janis' Kool Aid these days? It seems everyone wants to see how loudly they can scream!!Gosh!
are u deaf!????? it may be your opinion but honestly!! how can u cal her a hoe when u dont even know her?? or maybe it takes one to know one?? and it wasnt even Janis's orginally so please!!! ppssshhhhh!!!
You ignorant people, music is for everyone and should bring people together, it's the global language we all understand. To cast racial slurs just because you don't like someones song is beyond belief.

Janis Joplin recorded the definitive (if not original) version of this song, and if your version is not as good as hers, then don't try.
