  • I love the use of close-up shots in the opening sequence. It even goes on to show close-ups of his blood being taken and typing. Focuses the audience on the small traces we leave behind. How a human can be equated to our tiniest cells.

  • @qiqqrosatanbabcika english?

  • do you know BRAVE NEW WORLD from 1932?

how about google database of genes ?

  • @65daysofAphex

weird, but very likely to happen someday...

  • ¥T

  • music is awesome

  • watched this movie in my biology 11 class and fell in love <3

why did this movie not achieve any awards?

  • Most underrated film ever!! My favorite and the onle movie I own. I've kept it with me across 3 continents and the soundtrack plays in my mind when I thing of pushing through and self sacrifice. This character (Vincent) is everything I want to be. If only I knew of something that I wanted that badly. Great film making and thought provoking on multiple levels.

  • @gattaca761 When the movie came out, genetic engineering was still in the relm of the almost unknown to the general public. It was heard of but not widedly understood by most.

  • i love the music

  • i wanna decide what my child will look like. If i could i would make it so i would get twins.

  • This is the best art creation ever... no doubt

  • back alleys--is brilliantly. Play this film free @ MovieWatcher (.) US

  • good movie

  • Right on Jayakody. I see how it all fits perfectly with The Hidden Secret in Think and Grow Rich too. He had step 1 covered but I don't know about step 2. Maybe because he had mastermind help. He definitely had a lot of secondary plans and actions and I think that helped him a lot too in becoming persistent.

Great movie about going for your dreams no matter what, even if you don't have the genes for it.

  • Very great movie. Inspirational and makes you think. Sort of like 1984. You get a sick feeling in your stomach that this might actually happen.

But even if it does, at least we know we can overcome it if we desire it enough!

If you like inspirational movies like this, you should read The Hidden Secret in Think and Grow Rich. It shows how one naturally achieves their goals and you can see how Ethan's character used it in this movie. It's nice to see the pieces fit perfectly together.

  • what i liked the most in that film was the incredible ambient, with the music and environments. But i like the story a lot too.

  • gattaca scares me on a level..it's so plausible

  • i agree.. i watched this movie in my biology class my freshman year of high school and i was sooooooo scared

  • @SKITTLESANDMNMS

No way, I also watched this film in science class in high school freshman year!!!!!!

  • @CrysisNvid8800 Where did u attend HS? Maybe you went to the same school I'm going to now... lol

  • In a future " not too far " the New World Today is ordered by genetic engineering. According to a new special pattern human beings are divided into valid as conceived trough a DNA manipulated test tube and void, just the others born with old systems so regarded as pariahs. Wow ! Thats an interesting movie. A story of the " New World Today " according to Huxley: aseptic & totalitarian, with a soft camouflaged violence of power, made by a bizarre & original background.

  • This is my favorite movie.

  • same. Soo powerful, only movie that ever made me cry.

  • @latinapeacechick of all times... damn it's good.

    but yes, the trailer sucks.

  • if anyone notices, when the words are on the screen, all the A's, C's, T's, and G's are in bold. This is because everyone's DNA is made up of Adenine, Cytosine, Thymine and Guanine. GATTACA is also a pattern found in your DNA. Just in case you were wondering. :) oh, and this music is so incredibly beautiful.

  • oh yeah.. its a incredible film

  • @candygirl52793 your comment on Gattaca was extremely informative! I learned something new today.. most everyone watching this movie wouldn't have known what you pointed out. Thanks.

  • @Beachmaiden Your welcome! I'm glad I could be of some assistance. Although, the credit really goes to my biology teacher. :)

  • @candygirl52793 watched this in bio class for that reason :)

  • The titles may have been designed by imaginary forces but I designed and directed the falling junk. And Malik Sayeed shot them, before he was a director......

  • Could you explain the significance of the 2 second shot of a falling nail clip after the end credits in the film?

  • I just directed the shoot, I don't claim to understand the rationale behind the editorial decisions that were made later. But in this case, I think it's pretty obvious- a reminder to the viewer that, in the not-too-distant future, minutiae like fingernail clippings could have a new significance.

    But that's just my opinion...

  • that dude gets clean as fuck

  • The falling skin, hair and nails are from Vincent as he tries to shed himself of his genetic identity before work. . .WOW! How many of us have to do something similar every day of our lives. And we aren't even trying to get into space!

  • i loved this movie

  • Film is great, music is great.

    Everything just genially fits!

"There's no gene for the human soul..."

    That must stain... :)

  • has to be one of my top 3 movies of all time

  • Is that stuff falling hair and nails? lolz.

  • the stuff you see falling are hair and dead skin cells.

  • Great film, one of my favourites. It gives a feeling that a man can achieve the impossible if he wants.

  • i actually like the opening titles mainly because if the song

  • this is the greatest movie of all time!!!

great script, great casting, cinematography, great production crew.

    this movie is just great!!

  • Hey does anyone know where you can watch the whole movie online????? Really wanna watchh it!!!

    Thankies!!!

  • Watched it in science class, doesnt really help you much though.

  • Our teacher was telling us to watch it but she hadn't watched it herself but then she w

saw it by accident one day and was all like "it had to be turned off in my house" which naturally made me wanna watch it more LOL

  • Yah, my science teacher made us watch a video of this woman giving birth, it wasnt censored.

  • LOL bad times man bad times!!! Me too!!

  • I dont remember any woman giving birth. tho..

  • must have been a different vid cause trust me its not something you forget

  • IF you have netflix you can watch it online.

  • so beautiful film I lovvvvvvvvvvvve

  • has anyone this part of the soundtrack? my icq-number is 251765746 - i just love the main theme!

  • Michael Nyman is the musical composer for the film. Brilliant man! Makes beautiful music.

  • The futuristic building at the end of this clip is the Marin County courthouse. I used to see it alot from the freeway when I lived around northern California. It was designed by Frank Loyd Wright.

  • augh the soundtrack is so beautiful it hurts

  • I agree...you feel it to the bones and to the heart. The music makes it feel so real.

  • Yes! I've been looking for this movie for a long time.

  • Actually, this film is one of the most inspirational I have seen so far: when one watch it, one feels how impressive an human beeing can be; the message given in the film is timeless, though it espeacily refers to current situation which we have to encounter in the near futurer--such as the mentioned genetic engineering.

  • no actually, i like baths.

  • It metaphorically mean that he has to hide his true being.

  • Brilliant film with a message

    10/10

  • wtf does that mean, he takes a shower and gets rid of all the dead skin/hair cells? how stupid are you, duh!

  • I loved this movie because it shows no matter how much people try to put you down, degrade you in any way, as long as you don't give in to the criticism, you believe in yourself and you WILL win. no matter what comes against you, you WILL win.

  • he wasnt actually being himself. he was being jerome.

  • This is one of my all time favorite movies. Great intro. Really cool.

  • this movie kinda frightened me.cuz we'll never know when this might actually happen in the near future! that'd be terrible if evryones geneticallyy perfect!

  • best film ever...just brilliant.

  • GREAT-GREAT MOVIE!

  • I love the opening. Very provocative.

  • Okay, i never watched this movie.

So, yeah, what the hell just happened?

  • hes cleaning himself so that he wont leave any part of loose skin or hair so the people wont find him invalid.Hes taking sample of genetics from the person whos hes pretending to be so he can be valid

  • I love graphic design. And Imaginary Forces is one of the best. Thank for upload!

  • Great film. Quite frightening actually.

  • I remember I watched this in Sicence Class after we did Bilogy I loved it but everyone in my class had such a low attention span and they hated it. This movie is so good

  • i know what you mean... i enjoyed it as well

  • Unfortunately the average american audience can't follow a movie unless it has explosions every 5 minutes. "Don't make me think. I just want to enjoy myself." It's really pathetic.

  • INDEED,

    A.D.D. phat kids...

  • Αυτό είναι ένα από τους καλύτερους κινηματογράφους αυτού του

    αιώνα.

    σας ευχαριστούμε

  • this is my favorite movie ever too! =)

  • lascia il cuore in gola fino alla fine,GRAZIE,peccato sia unico nel suo genere!! ne vorrei aver visti altri di così belli!!!

  • this is my favorite movie ever! thank you so much for this!!!

  • One of the most thought-provoking science fiction films and one of the most underrated movies of the '90s

  • I completly agree to that.

  • Nowadays the status of people is no longer determined by their economical power but by their socio-cultural capital. The economical power and wealth is linked to this capital very closely. I think this kind of inequality among people is closer to the human nature than an inequality based just on economical values.

  • Since Gattaca is on of the greatest Films, the Theme is also a master piece, which makes the film even better.

  • Love the movie, music is fitting. Seeing this makes me want to watch it again.

  • smart movie, i enjoyed those are genius.

  • I belonged to a new underclass, no longer determined by social status or the color of your skin. No, we now have discrimination down to a science.

  • I was never more certain of how far away I was from my goal than when I was standing right beside it.

  • The whole score to this film is so moving. The strings are sufficiently plaintive to make up for the utter lack of passion in Ethan Hawke. He always comes across as a dim whit. Who cast Hawke in that role? The same genius who casts the talentless Adam Sandler in everything?

  • I am pretty sure the lack of passion was intentionally, and really portrays the kind of character he represents in the movie.

This is an amazing piece of music whether you like the movie or not

  • I find it hard to believe they wanted to portray lack of passion. His character had his legs sawed in order to pursue his dream. So they WERE trying to convey passion.

  • Alright you got me... he did have his legs sawed off... and he spent every morning of his life scrubbing himself free of dry skin, wearing another mans pee, and all the other crazy stuff just for a dream

  • music is great

  • Music is great. I agree.

  • my favourite movie :) and "brave new world" in books.

  • eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

    me guta harto eta pelikulaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • welcome to the dark side of adolescence

  • this comment was actually intended for the "GATTACA SCENE" video from b1ackmamba7 - watch it and you'll know what i was getting at.

  • this movie kinda frightened me.cuz we'll never know when this might actually happen in the near future!thatd be terible if evryones geneticallyy perfect!

  • IMO this is one the greatest movies. The acting is nuanced and subtle; and the ideas expressed in the movie have had a lasting effect on me.

  • I like this move. =D

  • '...unfortunately my son's not all that they promised. But then again, who knows what he could do.'

  • i saw it in bio too right before christmas break, the ending left like almost everyone in tears, so the teacher had to run and turn it off

  • i saw it in RS!(religious studies) ethics and all thatm designer babies. but my pal saw it in some other classs

i relle like it, i wana find the music, but how?

  • OMG!!! I LOVE GATTACA!!!! Jerome is so cute!

  • Magnificent soundtrack by Michael Nyman

  • love Nyman's work in this film, beautifully done. Btw Nyman did a wonderful soundtrack for another film, The Libertine...awsome stuff!

  • I though this film was wierd. It was good though. We watched it during Biology because we are studying DNA.

  • same here lol

  • It kinda makes you think. Im watching this in biology class.. guess what were learning? GENETICS! Anyways, Id never want my kid to be "superior" Lol, Missing ladder all the way! xD

  • lol I first saw it in Bio too

  • The greatest movie ever made. The trailer sells it all wrong and does it injustice.

    My favorite film, easily...

  • one of the few movies that really movie me

  • Guanine

    Adenine

    Thymine

    Thymine

    Cytosine

    Adenine

  • Lol, genius! :D

  • "Maybe it was a love of the planets, maybe it was just my growing dislike for this one, but for as long as I can remember, I have dreamt of going to space"

  • this films shows one mans struggle to fulfil his destiny in a system that is prejudice towards his genetic make up

  • The theme was done by Michael Nyman (I think I got the name right, it's definitely Nyman).

  • all up i watched this movie 10 times in yr 12 back in the class of 2005. and i watched certain scenes every morning

  • I love this film. I've loved it since I first saw it at age 13!!

  • Brilliant!

  • ive seen this movie about 14 times now... in english at school!

  • nice great music

  • Thank u for finding the opening of this movie. Great music.
