  • where do you get your pictures like the gun and eye in the example?

  • @bygnargasms drew the gun and a few of the others. Some are from the windings font though. But I tend to draw most of my iconography with my hands.

  • how to shift the layer to the cursor on a pc?

    It doesent with my "["

  • @Kartoffelsackmann It's the same command on Mac and PC. Move In point or Out point of selected layers to current time with [ and ]. What language is your keyboard or version of AAe?

  • @ECAbrams both german

  • @Kartoffelsackmann das ist the problem right there I think. Check the adobe help fle for "shortcuts" that should get you the right shortcuts. I know you can remap your shortcuts somehow... but i can't recall.

  • I dnt get it how u turn on the sound without thr ram preview ! reply plz :)

  • @EBxCL4N there's a little button for it on the preview window? Looks like a speaker. Give that a click and you should be good to go.

  • 1000 thank you. Awesome tutorial +1 to you sir

  • @porgeet well thank you kindly 1000 thank yous for the kind words.

  • hey,

thank you for the good tips, but its for a very beginners

I'm just wondering how did you make the shape transition at 0:02 and 0:03?

If you broke down the process of making these transitions and movements it would be more informative

you can check my channel got some motion typography stuffs but not as good as yours lol am still a FRESH apple and working on it

btw you look better with mustache lol

    cheers,

    Nas

  • @NasibahAlhussain It's a 3d layer revolve. But i'll save the tips on how to do that for another tutorial ;) I have to hold something back or no one will come back for more right :)

  • @ECAbrams well, am looking forward to it, hope It wont take too long, already subscribed ;)

  • can you make a tutorial on how to do the spin thing (like a rubik's cube)?

Also where do you get your pictures from (the eye, audio bar and laptop)?

  • @MrAL3XHD The Eye is actuall webdings or windings or something. The laptop I drew with my hands, and the audio bar is procedurally generated using an effect and the audio of me talking. Thanks for the tutorial suggestion. I've had a few folks ask about it so I should probably get off my duff and make it happen already :)

  • Great video!

  • very informative! lets just hope I can figure out my RAM issue so I can try this..lol

  • Great video man! how to do make that rectangle spin like a rubik's cube at 00:03??

  • @TheStro88 oh that's a complicated one. Duplicate the layer for as many segments as you want. Mask off the pieces. Duplicate all those. Rotate and position to fake a corner, use nulls or offset anchor points to rotate from an assumed center of the segment in z space. Add some layers in between to fake the tops and bottoms of the slices as appropriate. Hope that helps. I suppose in short: It's quite a process. I hope that helps, :)

  • @ECAbrams Thanks a lot man!! You're right! It's quite a precess!! I will try to figure it out!

  • @TheStro88 I'm sure you'll get it. If not hit me up with any questions you have. And it would be cool to see what you make, post it as a response?

  • @ECAbrams

    Hey Evan,

would it be possible for you to make a (short?) tutorial which explains how exactly you achieve the fresh, fresher, freshest spin of the rectangle in the beginning (0:03)? I'm just getting into AE as well as the whole "animating stuff" and I'm convinced that such a tutorial would be an immensel help for general animation/transition issues. Anyways, I like your tutorials very much. Great work - keep it up! :)

    Cheers

  • It's more at 0:02 by the way ...

  • @TheFluktuationAcht Do you mean when it changed from the title card reading "This is Evan Abrams" to rotate to be vertical and say "today" at the top? Is that the part?

  • @ECAbrams

    Yep, that part exactly.

  • @omnomnomandrew Dou itashi mashite, you are most welcome. Glad the tutorial is helpful, and if it's not, at least mildly amusing :)

  • Funny and explains it well.

A+, you really have the best tutorials I've ever seen and I don't even have AE!

  • @Zezimaownsyou well thank for saying so. What apps are you using presently?

  • @ECAbrams I use to have AE but that was a while ago. I'm trying to save up for it again (arr, i don't pirate adobe products). I'm definitely going to use your tutorials when I do get it again!

  • How do I make the words go away when I want them to? Please help

  • @christ8laze on the timeline you've got bars there representing time. Alt+] will trim the end of the layer to the time of the playhead and BAM layer won't display or you can click+drag the layer's bar shorter/longer on the end. Animate using keyframes just as you used to bring things on to have it go away less abruptly? Maybe I'm misreading the question though?

  • @ECAbrams No that's exactly what I was asking. Thanks a lot and great videos.

  • @christ8laze I am so on right now. Thanks for saying so. Glad I could help.

  • Great tutorials man I've learned a lot, but I had just a quick question. I'm trying to make a lyric video for a song. What is the best way to go about making them? Should I type all the lyrics out at once and then try to animate, or would it be better to go sequence by sequence, pre-compose each one, and then put them together?

  • Great tutorial Evan. I've never really used AAE with sound before, I really learnt a lot here

  • Thanks so much for the tutorials! I'll for sure post what I've made once I create something cool.

  • @TheCombatFetus I'm sure it won't take long ;) If you have suggestions for upcoming tutorials you might enjoy don't hesitate to ask.

  • Hi Evan,

You are doing a great job. Thanks for all the tuts. As you are an expert in doing title intros and motion graphics, could you show us in After Effects how the Sherlock Holmes intro was made. I mean the effect with the old paper and the ink drawn sequences. Many thanks for your support and your efforts!

  • ehi man, please help me, what is the command for shift the layer, like in the video 05:14?

  • @rivella5 that would be the open square bracket. It looks like "[" on your keyboard.

  • @ECAbrams

i tried but i have a italian keyboard, does dont work :S

i find a solution or i will die trying :)

    thank you!

  • @rivella5 I tell you what, hit up the Italian Adobe Help file online and check out their keyboard shortcuts section, there has to be something in there for you.

  • Fucking point proven!

  • Dude, you're talented! AE boy! :D

  • Dragging the palyhead with Ctrl will definitely help. Now, all I need to do is try to get more clever with what I am already doing with the text.

  • Dude, you are my favorite! <3 Keep doing what you're doing, DONT STOP!! :D

  • I love the typography from the the "tip" (whatever you call it) Bruce Lee says "Be water my friend"

  • @Eiglew "Empty your mind. Become formless, shapeless... Put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. But water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle." Big Bruce Lee fan, right here. Hence my nunchuck skills.

  • I always start on your tutorials the get sidetracked and produce something else completely. At least I'm learning though.

  • @GamerIndepth lol, so long as it helps you make stuff my work here is done.

  • Beautiful can you link to the one you made so I can learn from it?

  • @Mat759 I make a few, it's the one for Drama B - Lady in my Lyfe that makes people most interested I suppose. Not sure how to link in the comments though

  • @ECAbrams Can you add download link to the description for the .aep for your thing in this video? with the blue background

  • @Mat759 I could, but I prefer folks to give it a go on their own whenever possible. I don't want to discourage experimentation and the joy of figuring stuff out with those "ah ha" moments that are what bring me the most joy in after effects work. Also I think youtube doesn't like it when I post DL links on videos. Makes them angry for some reason.

  • Your tutorials are ALWAYS helpful. One thing that also helps me when syncing with audio is setting markers on the timeline using the star * button on the numpad. setting up the markers in addition to your method make it easy to move the layer around while still finding the exact spot where to place it. I had no idea about the open square key or w.e its called. THANKS as always

  • @GoJogoProductions Open Square Bracket "[", and there are a while whack of cool shortcuts in the adobe help docs. Give them a read for more fun times. I'm always too late on the * hitting to make the method work for me. But for larger things where I'm knocking out a cadence or roughing in gun hits or something I love it.

  • I love all your enterances there so funny!

  • you are such a boss lol! Keep up the good work! That syncing was beyond good ;)

  • Thanks a lot, really helpful. I like how you animated the twisty-turny box for the text..@TechTimeWithNoah there are fonts with vectorized graphics on them: dafont.com and click Dingbats..

  • thanks alot! :) been waiting for this tut !

  • nice tutorial, i'd also recommend people to make sure the preview frame rate (in the preview panel) is set to auto since the audio can sound sped up if the frame rate doesn't match up. also i responded with an older typography edit i did.

  • Thanks as always!

  • @TechTimeWithNoah well thank you for thanking me :)

  • @ECAbrams One question. Where did you get the images of the eye and the gun?

  • @TechTimeWithNoah The gun is drawn with my hands, and the eye is part of the Windings font, or some such. Windings, Webdings, Dingbats, Ding-a-lings. It's an N in one of those.

  • Another great tutorial, as always! :]

  • @KennyGJE hey I'm sure I've got some duds on here somewhere. My next one I'm going to make ironically bad, just you wait and see.

  • Thanks for the tutorial.. never tried it actually, but I think this tutorial will help defiantly ;)

  • One of the best tutorials i've ever seen, what microphone do you use?

  • @nogie8 I use the very cheap Blue Snowball. It's not that great but gets the job done.

  • @ECAbrams just an example of a motion graphic then a tutorial on how to make it .. maybe more than 1 part to it ? there are no real motion graphic tuts on youtube atm. And im trying to learn how but its quite hard self-teaching it.

  • @nogie8 oh also I EQ and Compress my voice in post... and was smoking and drinking bourbon just before recording parts of the tutorial.

  • do a how to make motion graphics tut ?

  • @iBlurryFilms might be a bit vague I think. A very broad topic to be sure. Could spend a whole semester on just MoGraph and not hit all the points needed. If there's a specific technique you're looking to do send it on over and I'll see what I can do to teach it :)

  • Add this to your youtube link to see my first ever motion typography, done with the help of tips from Evan. watch?v=j6QZkAgHn6Q

  • Nice I finally know what happens to my sound.

  • @punisher70000000 you see, the magic was in you all along! Or the sound was in AAE all along. Or something like that. Glad to be of help.

  • Really helpful and constructive tutorial! Thanks, needed it :)
