  • the dinos are:compy, deinonychus, neovator, parasaurolophus, and t-rex and the others are man, emu, and ostrich

  • we maybe the slowest runners, but we have cars and tanks, we win overall lol

  • @RenegadeOfSociety actually, were awesome because of our endurance. Humans are capable of chasing an antelope until it overheats and collapses. We may not be the best sprinters, but we are efficient long distance runners. So after that Compsognathus tired out, we still be jogging.

  • lol fail humans

  • The littlest is a Compsognathus

  • what's that freaky fast one? lol so tiny!

  • i think its one of those little raptor look alikes

  • fuck!!

  • PUt in real dino pics not shitty looking tubes!!!

  • I think in a rematch humans get to ride in a rocket powered car :D

  • Humans will bring an end to there own race,we are the worst species. We dont deserve a world like this...To know what goes on in it.

  • We are the best... how do you think we evolved?

  • yea but soon once again well evolve into something better and they'll be saying the same thing

  • what the crap?

  • screw the details, they aren't important anyways! lets screw musquitos too, for the same reason!

  • I love how they say its 'detailed' XD

    man we suck.

  • LMFAO!!

  • who'd ever want to evolve into a human

  • lol yea. we should all blow up

  • You did!!

  • so hang on, let's get this straight, how did they manage to get all the animals together to have a race? i mean, wouldnt the t-rex wana eat the turkeys at the start line? im just confused you know, i was surprised that there were so many sponsors, and the track was so wide as well!! i mean like in metres! this has got to be a fav youtube video.

  • Would you be able to eat if you were looking like a tube with legs without a mouth?

  • lol imagine a little chicken sized thing running at like 60 mph or whatever that was =P like roadrunner but smaller!

  • Which one has the biggest turds?

  • To answer everyones querys, the animal that won was a bird. Either prehistoric of modern, I dont know.

The ostritch was in second place. The emu in third.

The forth place was a small dinosaur, then 5th another dinosaur, then the 6th was a T-Rex. The next was a brontasaurous, then the human came in last.

Just a guess, but pretty sure thats right.

  • Hi likeastarbaby,

Actually the winner was a dinosaur called Compsognathus, which was approximately the size of a chicken. The other dinosaurs simulated were Velociraptor, Dilophosaurus (the spitter from Jurassic Park), Allosaurus (a carnivore) and of course Tyrannosaurus. The researchers only did two-legged dinosaurs, so no brontosaurs. And, as you correctly mention, the ostrich and emu, which both do rather well. Michael Marshall, online editorial assistant

  • is'nt the little thing at the front just a fly on the screen or somin....plus how did they find a green track suit large enough for a dinosaur???

  • lol

  • I guess someone was lazy on the details...=P

  • Ah, so that's what dinosaurs looked like :P

  • Damn, that small thing kicks ass

  • haha humans suck

  • whats that little thing that wins? Most "detailed" computer simulation yet? they have cones for heads!

  • are you stupid? when it means the most detailed, it means the most detailed statistics. All this shows is which runs the fastest due to its skeleton structure.

  • biggest waste of money ever

  • The human runs slower because of the structure required to contain a child within them. The dinosaurs and their bird buddies lay eggs and thus can have a more adept structure for running.

  • but who would win in hurdles?

  • nice to see what the university of manchester has to offer

  • run forest lol

that was alright. notice how the biggest one cant actually run....

  • That was quite interesting.

  • it means nothing to the viewer because the 'human' figure appears to be running in slo-mo. how are you supposed to get any idea of comparison from that?

  • any smart human would have shot the emu ostrich and dinosaur and started a fire for lunch

  • a smart human would have ran the police who would ring the military who would send tanks in to blow the dinasours up... or the human would ride the emu

  • they dont even look like dinosaurs

  • Point in that?

  • lol dats stupid

  • Well that just proves that if homo sapiens had been around with the dinos they would have eaten us all, he he

  • Yay go mini me!

  • run forest

  • what a load of crap ...nice to see the boffins at Manchester uni doing somthing usefull ... what the fuck was that all about ????

  • Academia tries to advance our collective knowledge and understanding in as many fields as possible. If this particular item doesn't interest you, that's fair enough, but the sarcasm...?

  • i liked the green one :D

  • This video is quite shit, a bunch of green things with cone heads running, thats really worth watching, ha!

  • Run little green things. RUN!!! >:o

  • what the hell was that little thing at the front?

  • oh btw what was that tiny green thing running alot faster than everything else? was it a dinosaur????

  • what was that!

  • I could beat an Ostrich in a race.

    My name is Asfa Powell

  • green for life... well im sorry for people who hate science, just because you failed at it doesnt mean you should hate it :)

  • Such a carefully considered and eloquently worded exposition. You must be the talk of law school.

  • Science isn't just for your stereotype. Just because you dont seem to grasp the concept of learning, doesnt mean you should ruin it for everyone else.

I wouldnt consider myself to be "smart" but i enjoy many different aspects of science. Particle physics ftw heh heh

  • Wel That Was Ad And Pointless. :l

  • A more accurate simulation would include a homo sapien with technological enhancements (techno-sapien), in which case, we'd be in bikes, motorcycles, cars, in jet airplanes and space-rockets.

That is the real speed of humans today. We are not the slowest but the fastest animal alive today.

  • If that simulation were more realistic, we'd break the hell out of the sound barrier and leave all those late cousins of ours depicted in that simulation, in the dust.

IMHO, it is not a real comparison of current human beings....but it was sure fun to watch :-)

  • i think u r looking into the sim a little too much.

but u r right about humans achieving the fastest speed. the fastest being a man leaving the room during a Hugh Grant movie. faster than light

  • Yeah, but that kinda defeats the object of the simulation. I'd guess that this is to show how fast we think (because we can't really be sure of anyhting to do with dinosaurs) a human and an ostrich can run compared to 5 different species of dinosaur. Run, not travel.

  • thanks for sharing those thoughts

  • worst featured video ever

  • lol wtf was tht XD the big thing looked like a whale.. with leg :S

  • The little green thing I think was a Compsognathus. A tiny little dino. Check it out in Jurassic Park: The lost world.

  • what was that little green thing that won? (yeah i know they're all green you know what i mean)

  • An emu

  • erm.. the all seem to be running pretty slow to me. They could at least try.

  • LOLZ XD

  • this would be pretty funny with benny hill music... some one please make it!

  • i never knew all dinosaurs were green O_0

  • theyre very eco freindly.

  • cool

  • hahahaha

  • New scientist are facists? invasion? its a dinosaur simulation not a 100 reasons why everyone should don a swastika and do the goose step!

  • Dont roll your eyes, shake your head or cluck your tongue too much! - you never know how true your comments actually are! - thanks for taking the time to reply though.

  • Lmfao is that it? Omg.. haha.

As Mr.T would say, "I pity the fool who made this"

  • just shows what mancunian uni ppl get up to in their spare time...

  • I wouldn't like to see the thing they're all running away from.

  • Tht little thing must be well fast haha!!

  • what is this shit?

  • *EHEM* COMPUTER SIMULATION *EHEM*

  • Dont worry. One day, we will learn to use simulated oil, from those simulated dinosaurs.

  • ROFL :D

  • i thought oil came from plants?

  • Also, but it comes from animals too. It is organic matter that makes the oil.

  • how is that eva gonna help anyone?...and uh which ones the human...lol

  • One question, did they take in account the human running with fear (running with adrenaline basically)?

  • The biggest one is the T-Rex. It shows how fast the T-Rex it compared to other animals.

I saw it on the News.

  • But those dinosaurs turn back into oil eventually.

  • Haha these people that have posted thing have a eral good sense of humor i mean help with my morning jog with barney

  • i like the shape of the dinosaw

  • Could you repost this video, but with benny hill music please? Or send me the file and I'll do it!

    FOR GREAT SCIENCE

  • I think this is probably a waist of resources that more or less shows us what common sense dictates.

  • Common sense also distinguishes between "waste" and "waist"

  • How does your common sense tell you how fast a long extinct dinosaur would run?

A computer simulation based on mass, limb sizes, how their joints move and so forth is a useful source of data.

  • I saw this on the news. Where as alot of people don't appreciate it bcos its not flashy. I think it's sort of a mini discovery.

  • OK human runs slow. .I want to see the one where human

climbs tree and avoids big TEETH.

  • its facinating that humans are green and that dinosours hav an identical tale and neck!

  • oh my god that is a truely astonishing video, but why is the rally car goig so slow in the background...is that a green dinasour wearing a new pir of trainers at a discounted price?

  • wow, i have never seen sumfing so un useful in my whole life

  • idandridge1, have you never seen a Party Political Broadcast or 'The Chancellors Budget' on TV then? :o)

  • lol!

  • Interesting how the smallest dinosaur seems to just rocket off on its own but next smallest one seems tied with the middle dinosaur...

  • I am sure the human would be better at sustained, slow running than a dinosaur

  • Human got owned.

  • Dinosaurs arent real! They are tricks but there to fool the unwary, God Smites T-Rex's!

  • That video taught me a lot about cooking.. why would u make summin like that?

  • that info is so useful. it'll help me with my afternoon jog with barney.

  • lol

  • When did we evolve heads! back then no wonder humans were prey couldnt see anything! haha! plus we seemed to run like girls! haha

  • Dinosaurs looked like that?

    ...HUMANS look like that?

  • Nice start on a video ... increase the animation length, add a sound track to explain what is going on and why, and link it to an article explaining the significance in greater depth ... THEN you would have a useful video.

  • There's a link to the article in the description, dinosaur brain.

  • Back in the Prehistoric Era our ancestors started out as the prey, not predators. Now I know why.

  • Gravity used to be less strong that's why dinosaurs were so big, so they didn't float away

  • Thats the biggest load of crap ever. I so was that animation, i wasnt expecting walking with dinosaus but anti-climax? Its supposed to be dinosaur racing!!!

  • That's hilarious, gazelms!

  • All the most profoundly simple theories are hilarious at first.

Then it turns out I'm right. Think about it, what's so wrong with my theory?

  • We are great thinkers but physically slow. However, we make up this physical ineptitude with advanced(?) thinking, building machines and our lives around consumables. But, we'll only use our minds to adapt to the mess we create, rather than stop it. Oh, please don't reply with 'god saves' stuff! I'm an atheist.

  • Humans may be the slowest in the race, but can claim to be the fastest in destroying our race.

  • is that true?

  • Where's Rod Hull?

  • I wonder which would tire first, who would win a long distance race?

  • "The most detailed computer simulation...?" Were we looking at the same animation? ;-)

  • didnt you know? these life forms have pointed cones instead of heads and the earth is an infinite flat checker board.
