The main use of using white and black was to try and symbolise the Guinness colours.. As a glass of Guinness is black and white, Black being the main liquid and the whtie being the foam on the top...

They try to create the advert a bit like their glass...

If you go to 0:16 you can see, with imagination, the slight representation of the Guinness glass.. With the white foam of the sea being the foam on the glass...

I loved this ad when it was on tv, but only now do I think I get it. The narrater refers to Ahab, a character in the book Moby Dick, this links to the use of the sea, and the epic amount of waiting, to kill Moby Dick, Ahab goes through in the book.. god knows how they came up with the whole ad though, and it is still one of the best ever.

actually the horses werent digitally added in they are real horses Lipizzaner Stallions are the bread. the were filmed in a blue studio so that when it came to editing they removed the blue and placed the horses where needed. the horses were trained to jump over small gates in a water bath
