  • i wonders if bill chose this trio to be main ones than lafaro and motian,

what kind of jazz tributes, bill would give us

  • @Guruburu82: That's Philly Joe Jones on drums and Sam Jones on bass.

  • i really love this recording for having so much soul (and im only 15), but from 2:04 - 2:12 i dont like what the bassist plays because doesnt the deepness of bills playingl!

  • @marsacko16

    ???

  • @marsacko16 YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THE FUCK YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. BILL EVANS IS SO FUCKING GOOD AND YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND HIM. COME SAY THAT TO ME IN REAL LIFE AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. LRN2JAZZ IDIOT JEEZE.

  • @Marshall2312 LRN2READ R-TARD

  • @Marshall2312 lmao dude try reading it again

  • @Marshall2312 lol dude I honestly think you don't know what you're talking about. He wasn't even talking about bill negative in any way.

  • I hate to admit this because I love bill evans, but I really don't like the way philly joe is playing on this, especially at 1:01

  • @supahsekzy Really? I reckon its awesome. Those erratic hihat claps are sweet I reckon.

I love Sam Jones on this though. Especially in the head. I keep meaning to transcribe that bassline.

  • @Kitschead yeah i like it too.

  • @supahsekzy

i know your comment was from almost a year ago, but what philly joe is playing makes sense. he does a rhythmic overlay of three over four. he takes his drumming from 4/4 to 3/4 while bill and sam stay in 4. the two meters cycle until they meet again and philly joe reenters with 4/4 swing. he does a lot of this in this tune

  • @prsshred39 Yeah, I'm sure there's reason behind it - jazz players never play anything without a reason. Just saying it's not my favorite accompaniment to bill.

  • @supahsekzy It's three on four. Half Note Triplets.

  • @supahsekzy I love philly man, and I dig what he's doing conceptually but I think he may have done a little too much heroin before this session lol. not saying I could do better

  • @supahsekzy he always swings his ass off though!

  • wonderful "Oleo", thanks

  • cool what is this? genre

  • Jazz. More specifically this is a bebop piece.

  • @Spimp4 It's hard to characterize genres with concrete characteristics. That's why Miles hated the word jazz. It's true that bebop often has a lot of chords whizzing by at fast speeds, and virtuoso level of improvised soloing and comping on top, but honestly a lot of music fits that description that simply isn't bebop. It's a sound, the bebop sound, that is far easier to describe through listening to bebop than it is to say it in words.

  • @2boddah This is jazz. And that was a misplaced question mark. Don't let it happen again.
