@CaptainChaos - Definitely would have happened in times passed, and may still happen on occasion yet today. As a Scotsman long removed from Scotland, I would strenuously state my point to "xTheWarlordx" that "I am not English. My clan fought the English after Wallace left this earth, so please remember that a Scotsman, though governed by Britian, is NOT an Englishman.
@MultiCoverguy They are still used for that purpose. Scottish regiments often play bagpipe music full blast thru speakers on their bases in Afghan to let the Taliban know they are there !
@halofannatic You may be absolutely right, but that doesn't make your comment remotely right. Consider that this is the massed bands, composed of a bunch of bands that likely have never seen each other before. Even with that, they play in sync, and do a credible job of marching together. Have you ever played in a pipe band? Your comment pretty much confirms a "no" and that's sad. Maybe if you had, you'd appreciate what they are doing.
@twistoftime i more than appreciate what they do and i really wish i would even have the privilege of holding bag pipes. I did not mean to dis these men and women in any way at all.
@twistoftime ya, but i do agree with him, i have been in a massed band before so i understand the line is not going to be perfect, but when you have parts of your rank that are just like half a rank away, thats just not excusable, expecially if you have a whole display to fix it... but that was only two of the ranks, everyone else was quite fine, but i have to laugh at people who judge a band by its display, thats not what matters, its the music that counts, and thats what does matter...
@pluto4325 It is amazing! It was pouring down with rain when I went and we went home soaked, but it was too amazing to even care! I just love the sound of the pipes and drums:)
I watched this every year on BBC-America and just LOVED IT! This year, my dear fellow-grandparents of our grandsons will be there to see it. TherCitadel band has been invited and will, no doubt, have lots of parents in attendance, as well. What a privilege!! There's truly something very special about hearing the pipes and drums of Scotland. It's no surprise they're used, so often, for funeral marches, i.e. Chicago Firemen, etc. Spectacular tradition and experience.
Omg the guy filming was in my seat at the opening performance...lol i sat were he was sitting a couple of nights after btw my dad is (at 00:6)the guy second furthest on the right in row three!! thats him!!
2009 and this is the best footage we can get of this :-( Mon the pipes!
