It's a bit different. In CoD4, there is not Theatre or Replay Mode, but you can record directly from the screen via dvd recorder and have them do whatever, its more difficult than this,

how do you get your replays on your computer to make machinima

Record them with a DVD recorder, Dazzle, or a capture card, transfer them over to the computer through USB or DVD ripping depending on the method you used to record, and then (optional), crop it to remove the timecode and the character pictures.

why doesn't brawl have many Machinima uses? theres a larger cast, more stages and its easier to record videos

Not really, the camera angle is harder to use, you have to plan perfectly in advance, and then you have to make sure you leave enough space in between pauses so you can move your camera angle w/o pausing the game. After that, you have to crop the screen so the Damage/Status Area is unseeable. Sure it's good for non-professional, but I'm trying to get it the best I can.

In Halo 3, there is a game called "Assault" Where you take a bomb and plant it another team's base, hence the mines.
