I have a '93 2.3L with 256,000 miles on it. I'm running it on basically the same thing. I don't have a header, but the stock manifold and the cat with about 3 feet of pipe coming off of it. They're fun cars to mess around with. Its getting a 5.0L sometime in the future though.

P.S. - Piston rings? Haha.

Your better of sticking with the 2.3L and turbo charging it, swapping to a 5.0L would be too much of a pain in the ass.

No not really. All it takes is motor mounts and front suspension components. And of course the proper drive train. It literally drops right in if you know the set up correctly. I've done two before. The only pain in the ass part is if you prefer fuel injection over carbeuration. Then you have to dick around with an ECU and wiring harness.
