  • hey, my videos always play in the 240p setting and i dont have the options of changing it to a better setting? does anyone know why, because i am getting a new camera and there is not much point if my videos will still be rubbish quality, i want the default setting to be 360p, which everyone but me seems to have :( i thought it might be because i record from a webcam, or that the files i upload are wmv. (windows movie maker) but i know nothing about techonology. thanks:)

  • @EGateshillmakeup i use wmv and a webcam and my videos are always 240p but then i got a new camera system and new laptop and now my videos are all 480p

  • @sweetcakegurl oh ok :) do you still use wmv? if not what do you use now xx

  • @EGateshillmakeup I use Cyerlink YouCam to record and to edit I use WMV

  • /watch?v=Vy5WLGZHwAU

  • Nice tie. :)

  • YT needs a botton that says RANDOM witch takes you to a completely random video on the whole of YT, it would make brousing more fun.

  • I just started using the windows live movie maker editor.I have been recording vids with a kodak zi8 camera. When I edit movies on wlmm,it gives me the option to customize the vid size. So,I choose 1280x720.But it also asks me what bit rate would I like to use.

I was wondering,as a general rule of thumb, what bit rate should I choose? I want the best quality without the excess strorage space.Right now I'm thinking somewhere betwwen 10 and 14 thosands kbps...does that sound about right?

  • @Geardoodle Great question. I'd say with a modern codec like H.264 (you'd often find it in an MP4) multiply the resolution (1280 * 720) and divide by 300 for good quality, 100 for great quality, and 50 for insane.

  • @DerekForPresident um im not good with math, so can you make a video about that and show us how the "formula" works to get your video's resolution/kbps

  • whats the screen size for 1080p

  • @PuffyCAReports 1920x1080 for widescreen, and 1440x1080 for 4:3.

  • I have an anime video... If u see it it's Quality is crappy... If u see my original it was like 1080p... So is it just that I shud record full screen?

  • :( I want to know how to get hd on (for example) an animation I made. or an amv.

  • How do u get HD and no lag?

  • @molotiv a faster PC, probably. HD is more pixels and therefor more thinking for your computer.

  • @DerekForPresident why thank you =)

  • @DerekForPresident If he talking about frames dropping, then here is what you need to do, and I have done these my self.

    1. the higher resolution means larger file size, let the video download completely before you play surprisingly, this does affect dropping of frames.

    2. minimize the pause and resume, about ten frames are dropped when you resume video playback.

    3. pause the video as soon as possible, the first frame, will have several others dropped.

  • @molotiv when the video is playing, You will see at least three bars, the solid red, which is the position of it, the faded red, which is how much has been downloaded, and then there's the white/gray bar which is a section of video that has not yet been downloaded, Typically, you might want to wait for the video to be fully downloads, and that will decrease the likelihood of dropped frames, doing this will not guarantee that frames will not be dropped, just decreases the occurrences.

  • Why are you sweating?

  • @sickshotzdeluxe Because I rushed to get the video out without delaying things another day. But the sweat will remain as an eternal reminder to my hastiness.

  • lolz 66999 views

  • u sad fucker!

  • :O thanks im alreddy doing it its taking forever cos its a long video :P

  • HAHAHA peter parker

  • i have a camera that films in 1080p but the button wont show up. i dont understand what i have to do...

  • haha, take over the world!

  • he's in front of a green screen

  • haha stop smoking Salvia before you shoot! lawl

  • You're awesome. But I still dont' really understand how you could get HD from a non-HD camera. Can someone explain more?

  • you can take a crummy camera and encode it so its hd complient settings

    the last is what matters

the quality will be the same, but you will get a little hd icod next to your vid when you search

you can use windows move maker on vista

and when you export, chuse the 720p option

  • You record it in non HD, then you go on the program you got with it, or sony vegas much better, and crop it too 1280 by 720 same with pictures

  • you need a software to make ANY videos or pictures slideshow in HD.

  • thx alot

  • lol world domination... Wouldn't it be nice??

  • Steve Carell?

  • How do you make it widescreen without doing it in HD. Is it even possible? I want it to be high quality and widescreen, not HD and widescreen, because HD seems to lag for some people. Please reply. Thanks! :)

  • yes its possible ....to make it hq widescreen you have to upload in either 624 x 352 or 640x360 those are both widescreen resolutions and either one will work...the hq option may not show under the video but it will still be in hq

  • you just have 720 by 480 instead of 1280 by 720

  • can i join you in taking over the world?

  • take over the world lol

  • Very helpful and awesome.

  • what an unconfident, shaky voice. but good information

  • What Came Do You Use.?

  • yeah

  • you must have a crappy video card

  • the way he looked when he said "im gonna take over the world"

    LOL!

  • Hehe :P You look like my uncle , and thanks for uploing this video . It really helped

  • nice video XD i needed this, i thank you very much

  • Don't take over the world, please. D:

  • Well they still let you upload in hq, but if you upload in hd it seems to be the video without clicking hq or hd is in HQ by default, (the vids that are uploaded in hd) but the HQ upload is still available

  • they changed it from hq to a shity looking quality it sucks and everyone hates it im prob leaving youtube they really irritate the heck outta me they changed it back to hq there for like 24 hours arrrg they are a joke!

  • Stop panting! Lol, just kidding.

  • yeah i noticed that too ._. its only a camera man, just calm down XD

  • Looks freaking amazing omg.

    What codec are you using?

Can gaming videos to look this good on youtube?

  • yea, wich codec are you using?

  • yo dude what software do you recommend, what im looking for is a fast software... i don't really care how big the file size is because i can compress it, please don't say movie maker or and sony vegas software unless its what you recommend

  • its peter parker lol

  • whats the max resolution you can make your videos HD with? 1280 x 720?

  • no, you even can upload 99999x9999 it is no problem, youtube will convert the vid to 1280x720. :)

  • His camara is sikk man

  • lol da hd mode is cool

  • he's sweating

  • when i watch in HD the video is choppy and the audio isnt synced right. Is that a problem with my video card?

  • It's your video card.

  • also ur internet speed may be the cause of the audio out of sync

  • dude you are not a nerd. You are too fucking awesome. lol

  • ever heard of extreme sarkasm? :DDD

  • LOL it seems like i can touch him! :P

  • Your'e riht x D

  • did you get nervous at the end?

  • doesent work at all!

  • Does too.

  • lol

  • i saved my video in HD with vegas, but it didnt got stretched, it didnt got widescreen.... pleasee? anyone help? hmm, its like instead of stretching it, it just drew it black on the right and left side....

  • Derek, and others - as I posted on your other video as a video response I have a tutorial on how to make your YouTube Videos higher quality or like HD with no links - it's just with HD it's a bigger image - but there's no need to go through most trouble once your set up and could do it without HD

Also many people's computers have problems with HD Videos.

SO CHECK OUT MY VIDEO RESPONSE :D

  • I hate HD it goes soooooooooooooo slow in HD

  • Comment removed

  • then ur computer is slow

    lol

    mine isnt slow in hd

  • not his computer that would be his internet

  • o hmm my dads computer loads them slow and mine doesnt...both off the same router and my computers faster then his so idkkk o well one of the 2 haha

  • SPIDERMAN!

  • works great man

  • i like how he is labeled nerd

  • he looks and sounds like peter parker LOL SPIDERMAN!

  • IT WORKS!

  • how do you make it work, does it do it on it's own?

  • on my comp it always pauses once in a while when its on HD. And the film is behind

  • HD looks great, but I encounter the same thing. It makes it impossible to watch. I also get stuttering and frame loss. I have a fast connection, and a high end graphics card too. I don't think the Web is ready for HD yet.

  • fuck, i tried it 1000 times, but it doesnt work -.-

  • it owkrs u just have to w8 for the HD sign to come up takes from 1 hour to 1 day

  • yep, got it now !^^

  • lol at 0:33

  • I can see you're sweating. <3 HD

  • your creepy

  • i use a hypercam can you make those videos in hd?

  • you sweat

  • It takes a while for the Watch in HD sign to appear right?

  • does it take a while for the HD \option to show up right after you upload it?

  • yeah... i uploaded something just 5 min ago and it showed up "watch in high quality" "watch in HD" didn't appear...and I'm really sure I followed every step :P

  • that suit is pure black =[]

  • It's too bad that this doesn't work.

You won't ever get the HD option under your video using anything this clown is telling you

  • problmslvr88 - if you're serious, send me the specs on a video you uploaded that didn't make HD and I'll try to resolve it.

  • Guys I dont have 1280x720 but 1280x800 and i don't get hd on ie but i tried it on google chrome and it works amazing right?

  • coltsforsb - send me the MediaInfo specs on that 1280x800 video that didn't make HD. Configure to text and send me a message.

  • Do i make the size of the video 854x479 if i want watch in HD?

  • lm2cool0101 - no. It has to be at least 1280 in width and 720 in height.

  • Hey, thanks! :) now i got it! Thank you very much Derek!

  • I normally get good quality for HD even in standard quality if the bitrate is set to 1000kbps as the lowest of course. It looks better in HD using 2000+kbps though, but then the standard quality will suck with a lot of artifacts. Well that's just me - I use x264vfw codec...

So I guess if the bitrate is low, YouTube doesn't have to re-encode the original video as much! I heard there's a hax to get perfect quality if the length of your video is long, or if it has blank footage at the end.

  • lol, &fmt=18 for high quality

  • Thx for your info!

  • Thank you for the help.

  • Hey bro nevermind my question on your other video. I think this should answer my question -- thanks for keeping the community updated with this stuff, not many people know there p's and q's when it comes to video encoding. Keep it up.

  • did you go running hehe. You seem out of breath.

  • Sweaty :P

  • Thanx so much for the help. If I shoot with 60 frames per second, that should be fine right?

  • can you make HD videos with FRAPS?

    with my desktop at 1680 - 1050?

  • nope

  • Why not? In the vid he said it works with a res of 1280 - 720 or higher.

and 1680 - 1050 shgould do it right?

  • monkeyafg - if your video is 1680x1050, it would probably make HD, but I'd consider cropping.

  • how do you mean? make it smaller?

  • Your information is so helpfull!

  • dude chill ur lyk soo nervous ur sweating!!

  • thats cool!

  • Not correct. You don't have to worry about bit rate. Just 1080 X 720 30 p not 24p and as long as you render as "best" Final cut and Vegas will automatically set the best bit rate. Another thing, if users want to watch in HD playing back smoothly, they MUST START over the video from the beginning. If they just click on HD and keep watcking, the video will play choppy. Try as I say and you'll see.

  • That's a great tip; I noticed they've changed it to not start the video over when you toggle between HQ/LQ, but hadn't noticed that. Bitrate still can be an issue for highly compressible videos, like still images and stuff that barely moves. Vegas sets a max bitrate, but not a min.

  • You're cute ... :-)

  • pause at 0:15

  • lmfao!!! GAY!...

  • lol

  • you look gay

  • If I had something worth uploading in HD It might be worth a go!

    Thanks

  • hmm HD laggs and loads slow...

  • it doesnt l2 buy good internet or use the hackcode thing

  • are u canadian

  • If I lived 20 miles from here I would be.

  • Wait a minute...you said 640 by 360 and in the annotation it says 854 by 479?

What if I have my resolution smaller than that...what happens? Will it at least fill up my screen? I dont get the difference............I'm getting confused now

  • The annotation is an update (they upped the player size). To get HD the resolution must be 1280x720 or larger; but on playback: the player size is 854x480, full screen size is... well, 1280x720 or smaller if your monitor can't fit that size. It's like viewing a photo in paint; the more pixels in the picture, the bigger it is.

  • I have an HD Camera:)

  • Lol, love the ending. I'll try this out.

  • blablabla laglaglag xD

  • Let me get this straight, high quality = high definition? I don't think so.

  • pavelow235 - no. High definition is anything bigger than 720x480, which in this case is 1280x720: true HD.

  • there's more tho: 1280x720 may be "true HD", but 1920x1080 is FULL HD ;)

  • how come the video is laggy even tho its fully bufferd

  • Your computer isn't fast enough. There are three times more pixels than in 640x480, and H.264 is processor intensive.

  • Hi Peter Parker

  • this is does not work!!!

if u wanna know then ask me

  • Your videos have a lot of still images, which means many of the frames are repeats of the previous, which means, they're highly compressible (will take less space), which means you're in danger of not making the minimum bitrate. Watch this video for info on increasing the bitrate: /watch?v=HDHaE2x0bCc
