I don't have this phone, nor the car anymore. I have the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and a 2011 GTI. I don't have a real setup in the GTI yet. But yeah, I was going to run the cable behind the dash, but I wasn't sure how long I'd keep the phone, or the car.
This may be a dumb question, but how are the songs on your Droid able to play through your car speakers? I was searching for a way to do this and your video came back in the search results. I was curious how this works since I want to know before I purchase. Thanks for posting.
The phone is wirelessly connected (paired) to the Sony Head Unit in the car via Bluetooth. Both the head unit and the Droid X support A2DP, which basically means stereo streaming wirelessly through bluetooth. Once they are paired, I simply choose to have my media play out to the paired bluetooth device. I also have a Motorola S9HD bluetooth stereo headset that I use when I'm not in my car.
yeah, i'm gonna have to agree with you that this phone pisses me off too. I actually switched from the iphone 3gs on AT&T and came to Verizon on the day that Verizon released the Droid X. The iPhone 3gs got on my nerves just as much. I would have to say that they both have their share of frustrations. The biggest plus for the Droid X for me is the replaceable battery. I have 3 batteries just in case. I too am thinking of going with apple's next release of the iphone.
how securely does the dock hold it? I live way out in the country and the roads aren't exactly smooth, with potholes and washouts being the norm, so I would be worried about it bouncing around a little bit and maybe bending the plugs on the car dock or worse yet, bending the receivers for the plugs in the droid itself. Also, do you use the aux cable or a usb cable? my new head unit will do both, so if I could plug the USB into the dock, it would both charge it and play music at once, so that I
I do not use an aux cable for audio. I conect via bluetooth. The back of the dock only has a connection for the micro usb charge cable connection. If you used the aux cable, there is a molded indentation on the back to hold the aux cable in place for quick connection. Also, it is very secure; slim-to-no chance that the phone would come free from the dock under rough roads and bumps. The dock slides onto the arm, which is the only way I see the phone coming dismounted.
I liked the video, your setup is very clean. From a car audio installer perspective you could make a custom cigarette lighter charger and drill into that hole so no wires show, and make it look perfect.
Question though, what are the ports on the back of the dock. I can clearly see the charging port, but is there an audio out port on the back, or is it just supposed to be accessible on the top of the X?
The only port in the back is for the micro USB charger. However, there is an indentation on the back that holds the "aux" cable. That way it's always easily accessible when you plug/unplug the aux cable to the Dx aux connection on the top of the phone.

Yes, you can watch/play videos that are on the DroidX while driving and the sound does play through my car audio system.

Can you watch videos that are stored on the Droid X while driving and if so does the sound play through the car system?

@daBlade80 wouldn't have two wires coming out of the plug, to help keep it clean looking, you know?

@davechannel01 cool. Thanks for your time in replying man, its much appreciated.

Yup. Sounds fantastic too. I did the comparison of the aux cable directly connected to the Droid X and I cannot tell any difference.

So the music is playing through your car speakers via bluetooth?
