Japanese Kanji, i guess. Courage - 勇 (pronounce; You), Soup - 湯 (pronounce; Yu). But 湯 actually means "Hot water" in Japanese.

I´ve done a bit of research. both "soup" and "courage" have various Mandarin translations. For soup you can say "xian" in Mandarin, for courage you can say "dan" (but be careful, it also means gall bladder). None of the Chinese characters look alike, however, so either the characters arent in Mandarin but in a different Chinese dialect, Penny was ripped off when getting that tattoo or Sheldon has no idea of Chinese although he claims to.

@DragonStyler3117 in one episode before this episode clipp he started to learn mandarin with howard were howard says that he is happy that sheldon learns mandarin because then he has another bilion to annoy but in that episode he says the wrong words all the time but thinking how much of perfectionist he is he would be pretty good on it

LOL, this is the problem of tattooing yourself with words from another language -- you don't really know what you are putting on your skin. I know someone who had a dragon and some Chinese character tattooed on his arm. He looked like a tough guy and all, but as I looked closer, I noticed that all the characters were flipped (as in mirror image). I immediately lost all respect for the guy. lol
