this is stupendous. I would love to hear the orchestra with this, but either way, the song is so rich. In the middle when she goes into "and the moment I slept I was swept" and those base notes come in, holy god. I think this is very near to my favorite song of hers.
She sees the same things that John saw, that William Blake saw, that T.S. Elliot saw, Sylvia Plath, Yeats, Mahler, Shostakovich, Beethoven, etc., etc., etc.
I mean my God.
And she's so young.
She's so young.
Her artistry, her vision, her sadness, all of it, it comes for the other side, wheresoever that may be.
Yes, I know, I know, and I cannot light a candle to her and I am a lyricist, I am a flesh and clay being, I am human being. So, interesting you should say 'all of it comes from the otherside' because this is precisely my suspicions too. Oh well, I suppose we're all here for 2 days anyway, the first and the last. Keep breathing, keep dreaming. :)
I know the place you speak of, but viewing it from my own athiest perspective magnifies her beauty immeasurably more than any other perspective could, for me.

@weepingforbrunnhilde Did you seriously just compare this talentless whore to Mahler, Shostakovich and Beethoven? I realise this comment is over 2 years old but I had to reply. You are insane if you think she holds a candle to any of those composers.
I keep hearing these voice comments. She can sing, it's just different. She's just very unique which is freakin great! I suppose Diamanda Galas cant sing, or Harry Pratch vocal peices aren't good because people dont get it? Ridiculous...
Such a beautiful song and such a fantastic performance. Really makes the hairs stand up on my neck, and makes my throat ache slightly. God I wish I were more masculine :)
I was really bevvied at this and embarassingly shed a tear at one point. The incident reminded me of going to see ET as an 8 year old and hiding my puffy red eyes from my peers.
I didn't spot Lightbody or Murdoch but do recall seeing Stuart and Dominic from Mogwai plus Aidan Moffat of ye olde Strap making their entrance. Christ, what a gig. Was there actually anyone left in the hall at the end who wasn't completely in love with her? Great work posting this.
Nice to see this view of her, i woulda been directly opposite you it would seem so her harp was obscuring my view a bit. Did you get the new song? Would kill for it yet I can't remember how it goes other than the yelps.
Ooooo I want to see that one again too! that was amazing. it sounded kind of russian or something didn't it? well.. no. but like.. the key was I'm not sure. maybe arabic. I really don't know what I'm talking about but it was incredible anyway!1 I saw it in manchester though. Oh how exciting. I feel so unbelievabley privileged.
I'm actually crying this is so beautiful

How does she keep the harp from falling on her?
spritenite 4 years ago
Most of the weight isn't on her, it's on the base. Only a portion of it rests on her right shoulder.
