  • This song is emotionally beautiful and through it's superb music, particularly the deep lamenting violin and the words sung in a deeply melodic tone communicates with the soul. I sense relating to the beauty yet poignant reality of the deep and meaningful words which cascade smoothly with a gentle sweet poetic flow. I sence an emotional shadow eclipsing the heart when I listen carefully to the lyrics of this beautiful song.

  • Another beautiful masterpiece ..and each track sounds so special. All sound

so special. The lyrics and the blend of rich music has given rise to one of the most special tracks. The music and lyrics are breath taking. The heart skips a beat listening to this song. It is the first time I have heard it. This ranks as one of their best tracks by the fureys' & Davey Arthur. This music and the lyrics skip up and down all the emotional levels of the heart and mind so smoothly and perfectly. Love it!

  • i love the fureys, chas and dave, micheal buble, skibadee, shakira, lionel richie, whitney,i know its quite a big range of music but when i listen to any of them they make me happy

  • Just an awesome song. Sang by a Man with such and awesome voice and a passion that is rare. I have loved the Irish songs ever since as a 10 yr old kid the Irish lads digging the trenches for the gpo ducts in my village here in England took a shine to me. For nearly 7 weeks during the school hols they shared their food and their drink with me. Now nearly 45 yrs later I can still picture everyone of their faces, hear their voices and remember all their names. In fondest memories of my friends.

  • @TheMrMoor a nice story the good old days im irish been in england last 11 years working on plant in coal sites and quarries all a cross the north and really have been welcomed and made feel at home a live in the peak district so feels just like home best wishes mate

  • happy paddy's day

  • This song was played at my old Nana's funeral, and every time I hear it it brings a tear to my eye.

    God bless, aul' lassie!xx

  • I cannot even be bothered reading all the comments. This song was written by Gallagher and Lyle a songwriting duo both of whom were born in Scotland. Graham Lyle then went on to write, with Terry Britten, their songs included What's Love Got to Do with It? & We Don't Need Another Hero for Tina Turner and, Just Good Friends for Michael Jackson. I hope as an uneducated, what am I, a 'bog man', that I have shed a little light on the talent of these two awesome songwriters.

  • @triumphoverevil Well said. Some people are just born eejits.

  • I,`m Irish, always have been and always will be,what is wrong with people who post racist and biggot remarks about a SONG,this song is about love, life and being loved, please, all you uninterested people,if you dont like the song and what it means then, dont listen to it,or at least, stop posting silly and uneducated remarks about a song that touches so many peoples heart. If i dont like a song then,ok fair play,i dont like it,so please, stop your racism and biggotry over a heartfelt songabout us all.

  • @misterwibbles I could not have put it better. Good on ya! Thumbs up from me :)

  • I removed this comment should of left it. I was born in N. Ireland to a Protestant mother and a Catholic father. Moved to Oz when I was 18 months old. After reading a few comments posted here I am glad we did. Have to add this time though that the racism is sadly brought over here. If anyone wants to go back I will gladly give you a free lift to the airport and make sure you get on a plane.

  • great song

  • my grandads funeral song brings tears beutiful song go on the furys irish rebels

  • I am using my wife's youtube account just to say. I am English born but thats not my fault. I (apparently) have Irish ancestors in Sligo, have played several tours with various bands in both Northern and Southern Ireland and love the beautiful scenery and the great people. You Irish folks are some of the best people I have ever met, some of the hardest workers I ever worked with when I worked construction.

  • this is a legend and a weapon of a song... song means alot to many ppl i no xxxx

  • I love listening to the fureys. I'm ashamed to say I'm half English, especially when I read the "comments" of obviously uneducated, pitiful individuals that have minds full of hatred. I wonder how the would feel if their country way taken over by a foreign power for 700 years?

They wouldn't have the balls to fight back.

  • @TheJaywatson While Britain took over Ireland the descendents of those who came here can not be held to book for what Britain did. As a decendent of such people and being a Protestant I am Irish and I wish to live in peace so to all those uneducated people out there your beef is with Britain Primaryily and not I. While some people support Britain and others Ireland this too is a broad church of opinion and covers lots of religions and colours. So enjoy the music I know I do :)

  • @UlidianPechts Shame on you calling those who disagree with you as uneducated, you are the offspring of a foul invader, who used rape and violence as the norm, see you have not lost your pig ignorance.

  • @tqued25 hahaha I never called anyone who disagrees with me uneducated lol you take slight very easliy friend lol as a Protestant Irishman I have more in common with my Roman Catholic Irishmen than with any other country I am a humble Irishman who believes in a fair society for all but the English will only plough everyone in Ireland into the ground. What a shame 26 countys voted for the Euro and the lisbon treaty to keep your independence you need your own currency and national identity Peace

  • @UlidianPechts Haha, where is the joke. You said, what i said you said,no mistake.I was not born here in Ireland but have lived for most my time.

The Lisbon treaty, this we can agree on but for the irish, like all others fear when their leaders tell them a no vote will cost them some comforts. It is a shame people have become so docile,i think.

  • proud to be irish

  • Now there's a memory fair dues to you Finbar an old Gallagher and Lyle track if memory serves me well.

    Thanks for the memory

  • lol dont forget BIGOT you arse wipe.

  • opps ! typo. Its The Secret you dumb boggies lol lol lol. FTP and the IRA SCUM.

  • The like of you never fail to confirm what a lot of racist, sectarian, uneducated and sad people you are.

  • @loyalleicester,what a sad sad loser you really are,its a song about people and life, not i repeat not about politics or any religions,if you don´t have anything sensible to say then do us all a favour, don´t say anything,if all you can do is critisize then i guess thats your upbringing, try to appreciate what your really listening to instead of joining the ranks of the narrow minded, sectarian bigots that seem to want to destroy other people happiness.grow up,or fuck off somewhere far far away.

  • @xxjockeyxx i love you irish lady xxx

  • Lovely fiddle playing on this track by John Sheahan from The Dubliners.

  • don't know if anyone knows but this was actually written by the great SCOTTISH songwriting partnership of Gallagher and Lyle. I think the song is really about the 2 songwriters rediscovering their unique partnership after some years of going their seperate ways but of course it can be taken by the listener as a re-birth of any relationship/friendship. i suppose that's the mark of a great song, that it can be interpreted by in different ways by different people

  • your right about the songwriters, went to see the fureys last night thats what they told us,they were brilliant and so friendly....

  • Great song and your words are so true.

As a "plastic" I've heard this song many times. It now has particular resonance for me, giving this song a beautiful but biter sweet place in my self

  • Great Irish Folk Group

  • Timless music never fades; finbar's autumn leaves is an evergreen song.

  • reminds me of long summers in newcastle co down,my uncle used to play this album non-stop when we drove about the mournes in his old cream lada (they were the days)

  • There isn't much you can't find on utube these days, this was played at my dad's funeral, such a lovely song, breaks me each time I hear it.

  • this song brings tears to my eyes love it

  • Such beautiful music from the best Irish group of all time, with such haunting vibes

  • heartbreakingly beautiful song.

  • top quality, i grew up wih this guys voice and it always brings a tear to my eye. the fureys bring me back like no other band

  • One of my favourite songs of all time!

  • one of my all time favourite songs not heard for so long thanks for posting it .

  • I couldn't agree more with your two phrases and this song. One of the most beautiful songs ever sung by the fureys, and at the same time one of the saddest and sensitive. Finbar's rolling deep voice gives it that special edge. Thanks for posting it.

  • Isn't this lovely. I listen to Irish songs a lot on U Tube, and I love this. It's very beautiful, and I am privileged to hear this.

Have U ever listened to Paddy Reilly, he is a huge talent too.Listen to Fields of Athenrye.
