I don't like laptops either (or well at least the windows ones i've used and no it's not that I don't like windows but the laptops them selves suck) but now that's i've got a Macbook Pro 15'' I am very happy with it! it's extremely fast it has a great processor and you can easily carry it also you can connect it to a secondary display if you would like to so you can use it as a ''desktop'' machine ;)

I have a 3 year old Gateway, and I can't run it anymore cause the proccessor broke, the Hard drive crashed, and the RAM popped (as in it burnt out and broke)

I can somehow relate to this. I've used windows my ENTIRE life. (I'm 15 btw) I always had memories with the windows sound. Huhh... I was actually sad that I got rid of my Sony Vaio VGN-NW310f laptop a few weeks back. It did the work fine with little or no problems. I actually couldn't let go of it when I went to the Post Office. Now I got an iMac for Christmas and I'm thinking I shouldn't have done that. Mac isn't all great it is when you see it at the Apple store. Now it's too late. :/
@sonicmonkey123 Believe me, if you want to play games the Macbook is just not powerful enough. Go with a high quality Asus gaming laptop if you want to go that route.
@sonicmonkey123 Technically there are a couple of games that work on Mac OS, but very few. And nowadays you can install Windows on the Mac to boot into that whenever you want to play. But nonetheless they are not built to play games. Decent hardware, but old and overpriced. Macs are all looks.
@MBP6705 Toshiba have really good laptops. Though you probably don't like to use windows. If you do, then check out Toshiba, best laptops I have ever used.

I just compared a workstation from dell, with a mac pro. With the exact same parts, except the Dell came with a better graphicscard, The dell with shipping cost 2200 dollars, the Mac pro with the same components cost 3000 dollars! AND you get 3 YEARS of included warranty with the dell, and if there is any error they will replace the whole system in the next day!

How does mac osx take advantage of a video card vs. windows? It seems to me your not getting everything out of your video card when running osx since the graphics card was originally made for the windows platform.
@HUSTLINISMYGAME: I mostly use either Craigslist or eBay. Either way, I go local and cut a deal to power it up & physically look inside before buying.
As an aside, after doing a bit of research, I'm finding lots of posts about the (1st gen? 667DDR2) Macs with the X1900 cards having graphic/HW issues. That trashes some of the savings. And explains them being on sale.
I haven't found anything specifically off concerning the (2nd gen? 800DDR2) Macs. But of course I'm seeing those for a bit more.

I just spend over 2k for a home made PC I only have one quad core on it. If I knew about the Mac Pro I would have had bought it. It is a way better deal than making one I can tell you that. what can't you do with 8 cores and 32 gb ram.

Well, with two 8 core i7's @ 2.26ghz, 6GB of RAM, a GTX 295, and a 8800GT its not "bad" for gaming. Macs run windows too, so its just as capable as a pc designated for windows in gaming.

@ramasosa Alright, I wont disagree that 9 times out of 10, the Mac option is more expensive. But in two years, which do you think will depreciate more? Your Dell XPS or a MacBook Pro? Even if the Mac's hardware isn't as powerful as the Dells, the Mac will be worth MUCH more. Think about it.
@ramasosa Mac is costly but it give you reliable hardware compare to any other. Before using mac, I was PC guy who loves to build his own but end up becoming mac consumer. To be honest Apple's hardware design, quality and integration is better than any other, but its cost more, but I buy computer once every 3-5 years so I buy best possible then upgrade minors if required.
I just got the 2009 MBP 15 inch and it is simply an amazing device. The construction quality alone is second to none and can easily be used to justify the cost. Not to mention with bootcamp I can partition 50% of my HD to windows vista and boot in either OS at will. Apple supports windows completely offering a full set of hardware drivers for XP and vista. I highly recommend it.
Eh, to be honest I prefer Word over Pages. Just because I grew up with it and it's just what I know. But Numbers and Keynote is SOO much better than Excel or Power Point. So I have both suites on my MBP :D

Mac Pro - I can't afford it right now. :(
Hackintosh - Affordable and easily upgradeable

How does mac osx take advantage of a video card vs. windows? It seems to me your not getting everything out of your video card when running osx since the graphics card was originally made for the windows platform.

The older Intel Mac Pros are reaching a sweet price point.
8-Core@(roughly)$1000 on the used market - I'll be going there myself.
Although the living room beast remains Linux.

@HUSTLINISMYGAME: I mostly use either Craigslist or eBay. Either way, I go local and cut a deal to power it up & physically look inside before buying.
As an aside, after doing a bit of research, I'm finding lots of posts about the (1st gen? 667DDR2) Macs with the X1900 cards having graphic/HW issues. That trashes some of the savings. And explains them being on sale.
I haven't found anything specifically off concerning the (2nd gen? 800DDR2) Macs. But of course I'm seeing those for a bit more.

I just spend over 2k for a home made PC I only have one quad core on it. If I knew about the Mac Pro I would have had bought it. It is a way better deal than making one I can tell you that. what can't you do with 8 cores and 32 gb ram.

It is nowhere overpriced. The Xeon processors they use are pricey.
The 2.26 ghz one is 500 euro.
The 2.90 ghz is 1000 euro. So the pricetag of 2000 euro for changing the cpu to a 2.90 is understandable.

still if you look at an apple laptop and plz check and then find a better laptop with better specs and u can see apple is overpricing u guys. and trust me i have an apple laptop and its not worth it aluminun cover. LED bulbs in kebords its nice .. but they overprice it too much and thats a fact compare it on paper with various models of pc and laptops of all companys..... they all have intel ETC.

Especially compare the MacBook Pro 17 inch to an Alienware M17x.
I oculd get an Alienware M17x with SLI (GeForce GTX260M) and a Core 2 Duo for only about $2600.
Apple doesn't even have a GeForce GTX9800M.

Good durable PC mainboards don't have electrolytic capacitors any more. Intel Mac's do, even the high priced Mac Pro.

Well, with two 8 core i7's @ 2.26ghz, 6GB of RAM, a GTX 295, and a 8800GT its not "bad" for gaming. Macs run windows too, so its just as capable as a pc designated for windows in gaming.

It's not a core i7, it's a Xeon processor.
They use server CPU's in the Mac Pro.

Been using Windows since 95.
3 month ago, I decide i need to buy a new laptop since my is 2 years old. So i was looking for 3 thing that a laptop should have today.
1) Strong dual core processor
2) Good graphic card (no intel pice of crap)
3) Good battery (at least 5 hour)
4) Ultra portable ( 12" -13", dont need CD/DVD, since i havent use a cd/dvd for 2 years.)
3 month's later i couldn't find any Windows laptop that top my requirements, till i started to look at Macbook pro 13" I 'AM SOLD.

@ramasosa Alright, I wont disagree that 9 times out of 10, the Mac option is more expensive. But in two years, which do you think will depreciate more? Your Dell XPS or a MacBook Pro? Even if the Mac's hardware isn't as powerful as the Dells, the Mac will be worth MUCH more. Think about it.

@ramasosa Mac is costly but it give you reliable hardware compare to any other. Before using mac, I was PC guy who loves to build his own but end up becoming mac consumer. To be honest Apple's hardware design, quality and integration is better than any other, but its cost more, but I buy computer once every 3-5 years so I buy best possible then upgrade minors if required.

I just got the 2009 MBP 15 inch and it is simply an amazing device. The construction quality alone is second to none and can easily be used to justify the cost. Not to mention with bootcamp I can partition 50% of my HD to windows vista and boot in either OS at will. Apple supports windows completely offering a full set of hardware drivers for XP and vista. I highly recommend it.

What do you mean "not if you know what youre doing"? I have NEVER EVER had a virus, trojan ECT on my windows based computer. I mean come on. there are 2 different big sytems for different reasons. Macs for video editing and all that stuff. Windows is for video editing, gaming programming, ECT. then theres linux... you know i built a linux system. it got 4th best linux opperating system which isn't bad. Linux is 100% freeware. minus VM ware cause that sucks. Mac Pc Linux= tie. whatever u prefer
