I know what you mean, both my grandparents died exactly one year apart and I wasn't allowed to attend but not because I was 5 it was because i wanted to wear the traditional white for funerals instead of the western black. I felt they would have wanted that but my relatives said no and locked me away during the funeral. I didn't even get to say my final good-byes. TT_TT

He didn't need to die, he just wen't out fighting the good fight, he was a GREAT Kage, and while he was a master of most known Jutsu [I think his nickname was "The Professor"] he couldn't deal with Orochimaru's forbidden Jutsu's. that's the reason explained for him returning, in the direct wake of Sarutobi's death. I was always hoping Kishimoto would have left enough of a possibility open with select plot lines.

Personally, I would have liked Itachi to have feigned the massacre, but used it against Sasuke (and Konoha's intellectual entity for a good particular reason) to eventually gain the power to exceed Itachi himself and avenge the clan against the murderer, as opposed to the clan's coup.

Don't you mean, who wouldn't have? Besides in like episode 3 or 4, Asuma says his full name, Asuma Sarutobi. Sarutobi, the name of the Third Hokage. Now that I think about it, Sarutobi had a lot of free time, considering he's in most, if not all of the Genin's memories while they were in their youth. I think the saddest to see the Third go were Asuma, Konohamaru, and Jiraiya. They say ninja shouldn't show their emotions... If I were there, I'd cry more than Konohamaru. I miss Sarutobi. The best.
