sorry to ask this but i wasn't 100% clear. so the video you imported from the flip was in HD?

i too would prefer the kodak playsport for the water/shock proof factor while i travel. if flip brings out a cam with these upgrades then i'll be happy.

hopefully iPad3 will acknowledge these importing problems too.

The Kodak play touch is the only flip style camera that offers an external mic input! That's why I want to use this cam!

@riverbenddrummer So I did some research, I'm not positive, but my guess is that no, the play touch will not work. The reason I come to that conclusion is that the Play Touch is really just an upgraded Zi8. Amazon reviews also point to that Zi8 being a better camera (it also has a mic input). Try them both out and let me know if you find out anything regarding the iPad.

I want to edit hd movies on an ipad 2 as well. Wanted to get the canon t3i dslr. Would prefer that over the flip. Do you know if it would work? Why does the flip work? What format does it shoot in? Frame rate? Is it 720p at 30fps? Can 24fps and 60fps shot at 720p HD transfer as well? Thanks!

@wuweiwarrior I would LOVE to use a nice DSLR instead of the flip. However the main issue is that the resolution on the DSLR is MASSIVE and at least at its current SW build for iOS and iMovie they will not support it naively. Meaning you will have to convert the video first then import it, which sucks.

I don't see why you can't use the iPad 2 camera to record video though?

@shelfy The flip has a higher quality video, a tripod connector and a separate battery life. Of course you can in a pinch use the iPad camera (I have) but you kinda look like a dork and no good way to tripod it.

@bcvictory My understanding is that it always films in 50 fps. I could be wrong, but if it does, then yes, it works.

I'm just about buying a hd-camera. Do you say, that the kodak playsport zx5 doesnt work with the ipad in HD? Cause in this case I'll go for the flip. You think there might be a difference betwwen ultra hd and mino?

@csello83 The Playsport will only work in VGA.

As for the Mino vs. Ultra. The Mino flat out works, which is good. However I have not tested the Ultra. I've been told it works and doesn't work by different people. I would actually go into a Best Buy and try it out :)

Thanks for sharing this. I want the same functionality but I don't want to buy the Flip. I'm still deciding on what to do. At least you've given absolute proof of a non-Apple video source can work in HD on the iPad.

@tricieric I have gotten other cameras to work but at lower VGA quality. Particularly the Kodak Playsport. I find that poor trade though.

So let me ask you did the video you show importing go to iPhoto 1st then to iMovie?

@dgallag339 Yes it went to the Photo app first. I then opened iMovie and it appeared there as well.
