It was only after he died that my dad found his old service records and a number of medals in the attic. He never liked talking about the fighting, he preferred to talk about the good times they had in the Navy and the friends he made for life. Im sure your father also had many fond memories and positive experiances. I dont think people like us could ever replicate it in civilian life.

Also, range and efficiency has gone up in weaponry. Even still, there are real wars being fought today. You can't compare WWII with modern warfare. We got into the war in 1941 not 42.
We sent millions of tons of supplies/aid to both Russia and the UK before entering the war.
We had pilots that flew during the Battle of Britain.
We provided the UK with 50 destroyers to assist with the U-Boat battle.
Almost 2,000 aircraft of various types were sent to the UK to assist before we entered.
So "no effort of any matter" is an incorrect statement.

Yeah they lost an empire, but I think they are more upset that Americans proudly tell of our accomplishments during WW2, while they just took it and were silent. America has been cutting off supplies from Japan and supplying more than 1000% import efforts to bring war supplies to the European front? America doesn't take all the credit. Russia possibly lost THE MOST during Operation Typhoon. 1/3 people had a rifle. The other 2/3 had 5 rounds and were instructed to pick up the weapon of your comrades after they were slain.

Fighting for your country. The adoption of complete disregard for human life to serve the country's cause. For both Germany and Japan, the two main Axis forces of WWII, they had almost close to nothing before WWII. Then, they got an empire. America did the same in the Cold War as did Russia.

@chitown2251972 What kind of war? The reason why there are less casualties now is because the capabilities of a single soldier has become much more. Also, range and efficiency has gone up in weaponry. Even still, there are real wars being fought today. You can't compare WWII with modern warfare. WWII was total warfare, which is when the entire country pushes for war efforts. Watch "Restrepo." It's in Korengal Valley, Afghanistan. Under fire several times a day. Real War on Terrorism here.
