  • About The Video Spielberg's Early Years, I'd like to place A Concern on Using When You Wish Upon A Star And Other Music Because They're Copyrighted, So Please maybe you should remove them from the video or anything? Consider It? Maybe? Because i'm just afraid, so please change it!

  • Steven Spielberg is the greatest director ever! Luckely for him, you came really far, if you were making movies in young age. Not the same today unfortunatly.

  • the greatest directors ever

  • Is Tom Hanks telling all this?

  • Is this narrated by Tom Hanks?

  • Yes.

  • thats what happens when you have parents

  • he directed his first baby steps haha

  • OMG, in that first shot of Steven Spielberg as a baby in the very beginning 0:12 , doesn't he look like an alien? One of the so-called Greys? Maybe this explains his fascination with extraterrestrial aliens! He is one! LOL!

  • are you ten?

  • @slagcity

    Yes.

  • I am obsessed with Spielberg. and Thank you AFI soo much for adding this I really appreciate this.

  • Its a shame you know. Nowadays things are so different and a lot of opportunities there were back then could never be expected to show themselves today. Like, I probably could never convince MY local airport to close a runway :P I wish I was growing up in the 60s or 70s

  • The legend of Steve overriding studio security with a briefcase and suit has been proved false.

  • Has he confirmed this?

  • He its not true, its in his biography by Joseph Mcbride.

he also lied about his age in interviews, saying he was two years younger than he was when we made his first movies.

So really, he made firelight when he was 17, and he was 22 when he got signed for Universal.

also I do agree with you, the opportunities for filmmakers then was just out of this world. Growing up with proper film cameras being the norm is so different to today.

Plus almost everybody is trying to make it so its difficult.

  • Yea. It's just all part of the legend of this "beginnings." Much like the Walt Disney story. There was a lot more failure and hardship before these guys made it big. Although, they did so at very young age.

  • I remember sitting on the edge of my seat watching Duel, an amazing movie for it's budget. Still as watchable today as it was back in the 70s.
