in the everyday dance we call life... a cosmic event to describe existence as a mere moment that is separate from time itself, thus existence is timeless and infinite....... one would call this moment presence..... THANK YOU!!!
The closing quote caps the sequence off beautifully. "But Mr Hangelmayer, it's still not over." Simplicity amalgamated with profundity, the brilliance of Tarr.
@inhmn The cinematography throughout the entire film is rather astounding. The scene shortly after this one when the tractor is towing the whale's trailer was a bit unsettling as well.
@bussyahead09 in short: Tarr is cinematic genius :D and while others try so hard to be original, he manages to do this without any effort - or at least it looks like that ;)
How is this scene pretentious when it flows so smoothly? If anything it's natural in its pondering and focus. There's nothing diverting the camera away from these faces. No awkward or technical cuts or camera angles.
@lithiumdeuteride yeah, it's not like a 60+ year old technology should have been used. people make modern black and white movies for one reason, whether or not they admit it: because they are elitist snobs. i just don't see the "art" in embracing the style of an idiosyncratic period in technological development where color rendering on film was impossible or prohibitively expensive. black and white isn't edgy--it's ugly and archaic.
@jimlagrenouille Hey, no need for strawmen. I have not seen Avatar and am not really interested in doing so.
And I understand it was an aesthetic choice, but I disagree that it adds anything to most any movie. What is special about lack of color? Why don't we see films recorded out of focus?
@161803< when one is deaf for example, other senses become more apparent. something is stripped away so the brain naturally enhances the other senses to compensate. something similar happens when we take away colour. but please people, doing it on photoshop filters does not make your image great, only ruins it when used in the correct context. if we saw films out of focus we would all have awful headaches. maybe my short sighted nan would see it in focus?
@jimlagrenouille your opinions are great. avatar a very bad movie.. just because you think your knowledge on film makes your opinions on movies worthy.. you'd have to be a complete idiot not to appreciate the relevance and artistic masterpiece that was avatar. you sound like a complete fool
@161803 wow. opinions opinions. why are you watching this video if you don't like black and white.. i like it. so do many other people. some people prefer it over color. i'm sure your infinite knowledge makes you superior though. way to sound like a complete jackass
when I first saw this scene at the opening of the film, I thought tha the "secular time" is stopped for a moment... This scene is to realize people that there is bigger times, spaces and movements... But we all people restrict our selves to the virtual limits of the capitalist system... But as he said: it's still not over... The cosmos never ends... But if we still continue like this we will end the world... Capitalism is a virtual reality that ignoring the "spiritual reality"...

"Roger Ebert added the film to his "Great Movies" list, making it third of only four post-2000 films in the list"
Is that seriously supposed to mean something? Ebert... seriously who cares
Tarr doesn't need some critic to be great. Viewers shouldn't need critics either to tell them what good or not.

God I loved this movie, they need to release this on blu ray. Bela Tarr is undeniably one of the best filmmakers in Europe.

@161803
what is this for a simplistic comment?
BW bad/color good???
Look at Avatar= Contemporary Color, EFX, 3D, complex camera move, post prod,
digital surround, etc.
In the end, Avatar was just a very bad movie.
ANd it's not because you didn't get the movie, that it's elitist
This is just an esthetic choice.
