Good start and some good points. Remember to always lengthen the spine and free the neck, (Alexander Technique). Also remember to raise the shoulders to within 1 or 2 inches of the chin. She has this appearance but many with bad posture must raise their shoulders. This is not a so called nervous gesture. You are only positioning your body appropriately when raising your shoulders. This also beefs up the area between the head an the shoulders so you won't have a overly long neck.
Is it me, but this person leaning back with their shoulders? If you want to learn perfect posture talk to any ballet teacher-because ballet is world famous in improving one's posture.
You only pull the shoulder back if your shoulders slope forwards, otherwise you get the posture demonstrated above.
There was once a guy named Alexander, who figured this stuff out over 100 years ago. Now people call his idea the Alexander Technique. Some of what is in this well meaning video can be harmful. Please, check out the Alexander Technique.
This is a good start. However, don't forget about your lower back & hips. Many people try to arch their back to "stand up straight". A suggestion is to lie flat on the floor letting your lower back relax towards the floor. Due to the arch of the spine, don't expect it to touch the floor, however, you will probably notice that it is closer than while standing. Arching your back does not improve your posture! However, it can cause lower back pain.
@PaulLondonistheBEST Yes. It is supposed to have *some* arch. However, many people tend to over arch their back when attempting to stand straight. This pushes their hips out behind them. For many people, this has become so ingrained that the back muscles are tighten pulling the hips back and worsening the problem. This is often the worst in women due to trying to accentuate physcial "assets" or due to wearing heels. However, I frequently see this problem in both men and women.
Very good indeed! I am going through some major operations on hips and knees and what to get as fit and able bodied as possible. I will be putting your advice into practice. Thank you for sharing your wonderful knowledge with the world.
