i've only been playing for a month but whenever i watch these videos it seems like the whole "spirit of the game" idea just goes out the window. Contact is blatant all the time...
I'm with illegit -- I think 40 had no biz in there. He's effectively throwing his core mass (hips) at the receiver's head after the play is already done. (Watch the replay.) Then he rides the guy to the ground and almost snaps the guy's neck. 67 otoh sees he has no angle and wisely gets out of the way.
You guys are crazy. The defender is being very careful not to do anything dangerous--you can see him hesitate and move *away* from the receiver, even though he might have been able to get a hand on the disc if he had stood his ground.
What would you suggest he do, just keep his distance from the beginning? When the disc went up it looked like he would be able to get the d.
@illegitimate0 Right, I disagree, I think that guy had a play on the disc. If the receiver hadn't gone up so high for the disc, the poach defender could probably have gotten the d. You can't just assume your opponent will play perfectly while you're defending, and stay out of every air battle where a perfect catch would mean you have no chance to get the disc. Most catches aren't perfect.
The defender also literally jumps away from the receiver (look at the slow motion) to reduce contact.
@ghubing If you watch the slo mo, he jumps when the offensive player catches the disc. He had literally no chance. His only chance is if the offense can't make the jump, which means he should stay down and wait for the read on the mac. If no mac, he has the easy grab on a short jump.
Basically, the defender is bad at reading and took it out on the offense. At such a high level it's embarassing. Luckily the way he came down is very likely to break his wrists.
@ghubing im with ghubing...its not like the defender was timing his jump to the offence's jump. he went to make a play to try to get the d even though he was out of position. if you dont even try you're obviously not gonna get it. if you're playing defense expecting the other team to play perfect offense, you might as well not play defense at all. and on top of that if he dropped the disc during that play it would have been a foul for a score. no harm no foul

@Zorbingguy Well all three were going for it and then there was contact. It's going to happen every once in awhile.

the slow-mo makes the contact look a lot worse than it really is. great effort by both players and great catch by chase

Actually I know number 40 and he said he did it on purpose...

I would throw the disc, too. Number 40 had no business being there so late. It's not worth injuring somebody like that. SOTG.

eh they have Kurt and Brodie, I'd call the SOTG even

I see absolutely no fault on the defender's part.

@ghubing We're talking about the guy who poached and did nothing but jump on top of him after the catch with absolutely no play on the disc.

@illegitimate0 #40 aka Wodarious does suffer from limp wrist syndrome so this is certainly a pastability

Other guy is a douchebag. He jumped so late and had no play on the disc. I probably would have spiked it on him.

NO SOTG

Bad bid, dangerous play to go over someone's air space like that. Props to the receiver keeping his hand on it and shrugging the whole thing off.
