this movie could have been amazing, the trailer set it up that way, don't get me wrong it wasn't a horrible movie but it was just so boring i know holliwood screws up history but if they at least got Christian bale to do more instead of just standing there it could have been awesome, i mean johnny deep and christian bale together in the same movie, and i was so bored. its a gangster movie or should be i think i might have to rewatch it

I loved the movie. If you paid attention, and understood it, it was a GREAT movie. The music was excellent in my opinion.

Agreed that it could have been better. No charactor developement, and I think there is some miscasting and other problems. It was just a summer film with hot actors. Melvin Pervus should have been played by Jeremy Davies. Look at the pictures and compare actor to person. Please reply to comment.

@DonnieDaniels it missed some character development i agree, but i dont really know how much is known about dillinger and his personal life, or pervus. im much more satisfied with mann's documentary type film that shows us the events instead of them making up a lot of crap about their relationships and shit.

@inrwizards Well, I've read about him a little. A LITTLE. And I was able to learn more from that LITTLE peice of information about Dillinger than from this film. For example, Dillinger had the nickname "The Jackrabbit" cause of how he gracefully hops over tables and desks to get from point to point and his narrow escapes from the police. 2. He even had plastic surgery to evade the feds. Did you even know that? I didn't til I read about him, and in every artical I've read, it's the first sentance

@inrwizards But, I will also agree that this is the most historically accurate of all the film adaptations. But, in order to get a better grip on what happend, you must know the a little about people and what drives them to make the events happen. I don't know. That's my oppinion. I couldn't get sucked in that much, and kept losing track because of it.

I liked this movie and literally the only problem with it was that there was no character development at all. Sometimes, its hard to tell who is who. Go Dillinger, Fuck FBI!

I love gangster flicks, but this let me down. it wasnt all bad, jus coulda been a lot better. It jus wasnt that interestin'. And the way that shoot out started was jus retarded. I dont kno if thas how it really hppnd in real life, but it was jus dumb. The fbi waits until the 3 gangsters get in the car before the say "freeze!" y not do that before they got in the car??? they had them out numbered. This movie is misunderstood by the people who expect cars to explode when they crash no matter what. It isn't about robbing banks or kung fu shootouts. No this movie is about Dillinger and his life and relation towards Billie and the government. If you even paid attention to the movie, you'd see that it's a great movie. I was touched by the ending, it was not what i expected hims to say. Most awesome scene, When he walks in to the police room and asks the score.

in the dramatic scenes. HD doesnt quite work as it worked in Fincher's Zodiac. but the action scenes are magnificent especially the ones in the woods.

it may be the closest thing i'll ever be in a gun battle. in puts you right there.

so all in all. a good film that is sometimes average but never becomes great

i didnt really like it. I expected them to rob lots of banks.. They robbed mabey two in the whole move? I didnt know any of characters names besides johnny depp. All the action was, was shotting tommy guns from your car. which they couldnt hit anything? just stupid.

this movie fucking sucked. first of all, pretty boy floyd was not killed by purvis and he outlived dillinger. pretty boy floyd died from multiple gun shot wounds from a shoot out with the feds on a street. when he died he was covered with a blanket and dumped on the side of the road. he was not killed by purvis with a rifle in a field. thats total bullshit.

I'm really upset the trailers made this movie look really good. Why couldn't the director make it like any other depp movie. Don't waste a style like this on a true story I want to be able to get Dillinger's character which i've heard is dull and boring!! UGHH Where are the good movies?? Well The Hangover was pretty good.

I really enjoyed this film, as a fan of gangster pics, this one didn't disappoint. Sure the love story between Depp and his girlfriend went to far, but I loved the cat and mouse game between Depp and Bale, and the action scenes did kick ass. It's far better than the Harry Potter dogshit playing in theaters!

I really liked this movie. Not a perfect movie, but still very enjoyable. A breath of fresh air or at least the closest to it after the absolute atrocity that is Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Strange. I loved the way it was filmed. Hard to follow at first, yes. But it was new and intriguing. It made the action seem more real. I think the scenes that seemed to drag on were actually quite reasonably paced. We are all just so used to action scenes that are cut to keep our attention for short periods of time. Maybe that's just my opinion...

I liked the camera angles, I loved the action scenes, I just didn't like the way in which the relationship beetween Dillanger and his girlfriend was potrayed. I did think the ending was beautiful though. Other than the romance, I loved he movie.

"Public Enemies" is yet another uninspired, digital/film romp; led by Michael Mann, a clueless film director lost without a compass.

The film was all over the place. The score was atrocious. And the writing was incredibly half-assed.

8 people walked out of the theatre.

I had been counting the minutes to see this film.

I saw it a couple of days ago. I've loved Depp for a long time and Bale since Empire Of The Sun. I was pulling for this movie. And being here in Wisconsin well you know. I judge a film by whether I'd see it again...the jurys still out.

I loved the music! I Love Billie Holiday.

Great period piece.

Depp seemed too handsome for Dillinger.

I had a tear in my eye when the movie ended. I liked the movie as of yet I don't love it.

I went to rotten tomatoes and read some of the reviews of "Public Enemies" and overall there are more negative than positive reviews. It's only at 55%, which counts as rotten rather than fresh. It looks like Michael Mann made another mediocre film. Mann hasn't made a great movie since Heat. I think his creativity is gone. At least Depp is in it as the lead, which is one of it's only saving grace's. He's one of my favorite actors and his talent is superb. I equally like Christian Bale.

The movie looks really good and is worth the entrance fee. Maybe if just because I still can't get myself to much Miller's Crossing I'll go and watch this gangster action drama.
