Yes the greatest female country singer that ever was or will be, this song is probaly her most universal song, if there was alien life forms out in space they would also appreciate her & this song. Simply the Best.
MY MOMS GONE SINCE I WAS JUST 16 YET WE USED TO LISTEN TO HER ALL THE TIME SHE AND LORETTA LYNN PATSY CLINE ARE SOME OF THE GREATEST SINGERS OF ALL TIME
Tammy sings to about break the toughest heart! I caught her act five times. When her big touring bus emblazoned with "Tammy Wynette, Queen of Country Music" on the sides would pull into town on its annual stop here in Vancouver, Canada, it was a thrill.
She truly was Queen of Country Music. I love her and miss her.
What a wonderful song! There's something really beautiful in the male-female chemistry that we are losing now thanks to feminism. This is one of three or four country songs I really love and would never want to be without. She has an electrifying voice. Rest in Peace.
I love oldies, they seem to have so much more soul. But that is just my view, everyone is entitled to his opinion :) Either way: Thank you for this wonderful upload!
Just call it like it is. She was a great singer for all of us to listen too and watch. Forget about any personal faults she might have had, everbody has some. To bad we don't have anybody anywhere near her quality singing and to watch today.
I love these old videos, the old greats like Tammy seemed more like real people just doing what they do best instead of the perfectly polished entertainment packages we see today. She doesn't need to have a perfectly choreographed dance routine , I just want to hear her beautiful voice!
@BKellyS your post packs a lot of sense. She's got the talent and that voice! Too many folks are just too slick these days and they don't even have a fraction of the sheer talent that Tammy had... Anyway, I agree with you.
wow this looks like it was directed by david lynch. amazing performance as always from Tammye. Her poise, her voice, her dignity and her unrivaled command of melody make her a genius of american music. Will always love you Tammye.
@doomcontrol Wow, I love the Lynch reference. As good as it gets. I had never seen this performance until tonight and I think it ranks up there with the greatest, ever. Back in 2003, CMT ran a show on the 100 Greatest Songs of Country Music and this one ranked #1 ("He Stopped Loving Her Today" was #2).
@rek1225 I thought that was the old Possum at the beginning there. Both he and Tammy were really young there. That clip must have been filmed in the mid '60s.
I know I'm going to sound young and ignorant by saying this, but if this was in the early 60's, would it make sense that it was in such good quality and in color on top of it.
the fact is, this is one helluva soul song delivered in country style. she puts so much emotion and heart into it. anyone that doesn't realize that this is a masterpiece that cuts across any genre
probably has their nose so far up in the air that the lack of oxygen has crippled their brain....................
What a powerful song and delivery. The chorus and refrain are a hit and hold combination not easily matched. Sure, it's easy to say that the message is strictly Hicksville - but in a perfect world it's profoundly beautiful and enduring.
For simple, all american music, it's contrast between tenderness and gut grabbing
punch is all but incomparable. Kudos, Tammy and band - I'm a more complete person for having this song rattling around in my head.
I know that this song was look at askance at the time, being popular when the women's movement started, but, hell, her voice leaves me breathless with its power and emotional committment.
Amazing! Tammy was such a beautiful and talented singer...taken far too soon. We could use her now to mentor the contemporary "country" acts these days...
This reminds me of the old days with my Grandpa <3 Im 21, but was rasied by them and grew up on this music
