I have an old NX6120 and everything looks the same from the one in this video. I raised the keyboard and found that the memory module is missing. So i removed the bottom lid to check the other memory module and it was there. Does that mean that the nx6120 only came with 256mb of memory? Or did someone steal my other 256mb? This video is kool, I´m going to buy the 2GB and the new processor and change them myself.
@StreetArtillery I seem to remember that they only came with one memory module and provided the other empty bay for memory expansion. Happy upgrading!
@00007bily I just did this one, the nc6120, for a friend who wanted it done at the time. For any other desktop or laptop, you'd have to research it and see what can be done.
just got a brand new labtop for the game SWTOR(Star Wars The Old Republic) for christmas, and my GHz is 2.20, is that good for this game? when the minimum req. is 2.0 GHz i got 8G of RAM and a good graphics card, i got my computer 2 days ago, should i take it back and ask for one with 2.40+ GHz? the recomneded req state that a 2.40+ GHz would be best.
@OneToothRedneck Well, you don't want just any 2.0Ghz processor, the specs for SWTOR says the min is a dual-core 2.0Ghz processor. My video here is how to change out a single-core processor, so I'm wondering if you got a single-core processor, which if you did, and it's 2.0Ghz, it's probably not going to run this game well. If yours is a dual-core 2.0Ghz processor, it'll probably be fine. Happy Holidays!
I wanna upgrade my HP G72 17.3" from 4 GB RAM to.. well, as much as possible :) Can you please help me find what i need and that fit in it PLEASE! There is no information about it on the internet :P
@mokle999 Go to crucial dotcom and either enter your computer's model or let crucial scan your computer. Either way, it will tell you exactly what memory modules your computer can take to upgrade it. Thanks for watching!
@mokle999 Not necessarily but you'll need to make sure you keep your internal fans nice and clean and keep as much airflow going into the laptop as possible.
Ok, I have a weird question. One pc which I bought years ago with dual core 2,4 GHz was not capable to run many programs because the cpu usage was high (50-90%). I had no trojans, viruses etc in my harddrive. So I bought a new cpu 3.0 GHz dual core with 6 mb cache, but haven't installed it yet. One dude said that if I installed the new cpu ít wouldn't make my computer run smoother and that the cpu wouldn't do any difference at all. Is he right?
@Jungelsucks He is probably right. It sounds more like you've got a lot of stuff running that you don't know about. With everything you know is running shut down, see what your CPU usage is. If it's high at that point, you need to dig deeper, into possible running background processes and etc. Lots of possibilities.
@steeljan No, I runned like 19 applications and didn't even use 200mb's ram of 1,5gb. I found the problem, somebody forgot to install my fan properly and it was very loose. Now I can run 40 applications with 1-4 % cpu usage. Problem solved.
hi can someone tell me i just took apart my laptop and it back together now and running fine but i replaced the old crusty thermal stuff in between the heat sink and the cpu with arctic silver 5 and there was a very light green pad of thermal Greece i think its called on another platform on the heat sink to the right of the cpu platform i replaced that with arctic silver 5 too and i was wondering was i supposed to do that???? please someone help
@unknownplayer03 It's a thermal pad, got a package of them from ebay. I wanted to use Arctic Silver 5 but read that a thermal pad works better on laptops, makes a more proper and thorough thermal transfer. Cheers!
@GRAFFITIKING52 No idea, you'd have to google around. Or your best bet is looking at the manufacturers website to see if they offered that model with a better CPU.
hi. very nice video. in most laptops when you change your cpu to a significantly more powerful one, do you have to get a new fan too, or no? also, how do you find out what cpu's you can put in yout laptop. thanks!
hi. i´m trying to upgrade my acer aspire 5050 processor, but i have a problem removing the keyboard. i see on your video you just pull it. is that the way to do it? i mean, i locked the laptop back because i can´t do that.
@blasphemer76 I just googled and found info on upgrading the acer aspire 5050 at computer-adviser dotcom. Wish I could put the link directly to it, but youtube comments doesn't allow it. But just go there, put the acer aspire 5050 in their search box, and it should take you directly to it. Thanks for watching.
@steeljan i read the same article, but my only doubt is about the keyboard cable. how did you remove it? is the same of your laptop. sorry for my english. i really apreciate your help
@bachokabg That's the DC in jack, the center pin is the positive conductor. The laptop has to be torn down to the motherboard and the jack replaced (involves soldering on most, some it's on a short harness). I do these all the time for people in my area for $60 flat labor and part.
Hey my laptop (Acer 5740G) is upgradable to an i7 processor can you take it to say a computer specialist and they can do it for you? Or is it only a DIY thing im from australia
You don't have to remove the LCD and palmrest to change CPU on the NX61xx and NC61xx machines - two screws on the fan, slide it out of the way. 4 screws on the heatpipe and it comes out then the CPU can be changed.
@rhblakeman And just how would you get the old cpu out and new one in? It is locked down in it's socket with a screw-head lock. And how would you get the thermal paste on it, the old off and new on? The only way to get to the cpu socket to change it out is by opening the case, which requires all the other disassembly to get to it.
@steeljan The cam lock screw for the processor you use a flat blade to release it (hence the term Zero Insertion Force) then lift the CPU, set the new one in properly oriented, turn the cam lock to hold the cpu, put the heatpipe assy in tip first then swing the other part to the left over the CPU then screw down the 4 screws in the order of the numbering. I have one here and I've been an HP ASP for 11 yrs, have done hundreds of the nx and nc 61xx machines. Service manual is avail on HP support
@rhblakeman You are totally correct, I am doing it absolutely the hard way in this video. Guess because I had to do so much other work on this laptop initially that when I made this video, I simply proceeded to disassemble it again without thinking it through. I'll annotate the video. Thank you so much. Sorry to have snipped at you in your first post, I apologize. Thanks again!
@thecworld100 For all HP laptops you can go to support for your machine and under Manuals on the left index you will find a service and/or maintenance manual in PDF for free. Dell in the support area using the service tag has service manuals too. IBM Lenovo has some but you have to find that special webpage for the manual, known as a hardware maintenance manual for IBM and Lenovo. Others tend to make them unavailable to the public
@joxim92 If you go into the bios, does it show the hard drive as a listed device? If it doesn't, your hard drive may be bad. Also, does it show all your memory there? Have you had this computer a long time and it's just going bad? I'm asking because if you just got it used, it may be password protected or protected by USB key, in which case you will not be able to unlock it as far as I know.
@steeljan Sticking in POST at the HP splash is usually due to failure of a device. Can be optical drive, hard drive, memory, wifi card, modem. In order to find out if it's a motherboard or attached item you have to get the machine to just motherboard, AC adapter and at least one stick of known good memory. Once it gets past POST you shut down, add a component, try again. Do that till it hangs again and the part that was just added is the likely item. In rare cases it is the CPU.
@steeljan hey i really need help can i update my cpu on my g71 hp it has a celeron i really want a duo core is there anything i can do? i dont know what socket it is idk what mother board it is so i dont know what cpu is compatible can you help me pls?
hey was wondering about the memory speed with the new 770 can you updrade the ram speed to ddr2 or is it impossible, if it is what is the highest speed ram i would be able to use or is it just pc2700 at 333mhz or can it go faster
@omsinos You can't change out RAM types because it's designed into the motherboard. So yeah, on this one you're stuck with pc2700. I was happy to have doubled the amount of ram it was spec'd for, sweet.
Hi, you should warn the viewers to remove the two torx screws in the battery compartment before trying to remove the button panel. Apparently the nc6120 you are taking apart in the video already has them removed. Thanks.
@01zizme You are absolutely correct. I was surprised to find those two torx screws were broken out of this one, meaning someone had been inside of it before me. But still, I should have left it in the video - - I had to edit this video down a lot to get it in under the 10 minute time limit on youtube. Thanks!
@ViajePerverso Pretty much all HP keyboards, and laptop keyboards in general come out this same way. @09ikeanmike56 Use your specific laptop model. Go to Compaq's website and see if that model was ever offered with a better processor. You'll also want to google to see if anyone else has tried it, pay attention to if they had heat problems.Tks
