I understand you when you say you were too young to remember Reagan and that from what you can read here it sounds like Reagan may have done more harm than good. The record for republicans is not great, both times they have had sustained control over both the white house and congress we have seen massive economic crisis, the first was in the 1930's which saw the great depression, now again thanks to Bush.

The problem ive seen in Americans as of late is this either huge love for Obama or a huge hatred of Obama. Cant you take the stance we in Britain are taking? which is optimisism, but not getting overworked about it. If his plans have failed we will know in about a years, maybe 1.5 years. Cant you wait to hate or love him till then.
And actually FYI im a university student living away from home.
P.S. a government which involves itself to much is just as bad as one which does nothing

Im optimistic about any Liberal who gets into power, history shows that 9/10 times they do some good. Gladstone, Lloyd George, Asquith, Kennedy, Clinton, Walpole All liberals, when they got itno power, mostly good followed.

Why in the blazes would we want conservatives in power, the past 8 years has seen what they are capable of, illegal immoral wars, huge debt, erosion of civil liberties among many others! Even Reagan and Thatcher, conservative heroes, could only create debt, start wars and bugger up a whole generation between them.
Id Rather have Clinton and lloyd George than any two conservatives in power in the UK and US.

@Erech01 I agree with you - give a Republican a Legislative branch full of Liberals, and you see what happens. I'm not defending GWB, as he should have had the stones to stand up to the Liberal majorities in Congress.
If you do your research, the only reason Clinton was as successful as people remember him, was because he had Dick Morris whispering in his ear for the last 6 years of his presidency to go along with the Republicans in Congress. We'll see if Obama is as wise after November...

@Lomotilian I live in the UK and currently we have a coalition between the conservative party and the Lib dems. Now i'm very much for parties working together, which is probably why the Clinton administration worked well and im pro-Obama as he too (atleast at first not so sure now) was trying to work with the republicans. We can only hope he goes back to trying to work with them. My only point on this, really, was Obama is not a socialist, to say so is extremely ignorant of what socialism is.

@Erech01 I wasn't one of the people calling him a socialist, but he certainly leans heavily in that direction, the extreme left. Any time you want to take control away from the people or the working class and put it in the hands of the government, there have to be negative consequences. About the only trust I have in my government is it's ability to deliver the mail. And, tax the hell out of me.

I know it's been 3 months since you posted everything here, but I've been reading everything you wrote, and I agree 100%. Obama hates democracy and freedom. He would rather have us depend on Uncle Sam for everything because socialism has the fundamental belief that common people are stupid and can't think for themselves. Your largest political party is called the LABOUR party. Here is a good description: Centre-left; historically allied to Trade unions; mixed market (Third Way) policies have replaced its earlier more socialist platform in recent years; supports greater European integration.

Whatever else he is he is obviously naive, ill advised and just plain wrong headed about what promotes an environment suited for a prosperous economy because the only job growth this country has seen so far is government jobs. Government jobs are jobs that suck from the tax base rather than contribute to it. To make matters worse he is also disrespectful of the people and traditions that made this country great.

Despite popular belief Reagan did not single handedly defeat the USSR, communist nations cannot survive without expanding into new territory it was bound to collapse, besidses, Thatcher did more to bring its end than Reagan.
And yes, Obama is going to create alot of debt, if he gets a second term that will consist of him balancing the books.
