@208327650: It was due to her old injuries that she was unable to perform her lutz as good as she used to. She even lost some of her flexibility in the process, but on the upside - being a skater isn't the only talent she possesses. She also works as a fashion designer.
And as usual she shows her total disrespect for her competition by skating around while the scores are being announced Maybe it has to do with the fact that she was embarrased...loser that she is.
@blancohuebner It's called taking time to thank her fans, dear. And why would it bother Kristi? She doesnt need Oksana to be sat down to hear her marks, it's not like she was waiting to go on the ice. Sounds like another one who never got over Nancy not winning gold in Lillehammer...
Thanks for posting this. I remember this performance well and have many of her skating on tape. The choreography is so beautiful that she doesn't even NEED jumps! You're mesmerized simply by her interpretation of the music. Bravo! I wish the new code of points limited jumps and encouraged skaters to really translate the music through other moves like Oksana does. She's my all-time favorite skater.
Great skater. I am a songwriter. It would be a dream come true if Oksana would skate to my song. It is called, "Where I Belong" by Vince Ravon. It is on youtube. Search for it. It is for you and her. It is about taking a long journey in your life and finding your destiny in heaven. Best Wishes, Vince Ravon.
I have a better video of this .. although I do not know how to bring it to everyone else .. but I am glad to see others have enjoyed her skates as much as I do! It's been a long time since she skated to this and all .. but I LOVE her performance and the song!!!
I am so glad to see this performance again!! I saw it the nite it aired and was blown away by her and this song.. thank you for posting it, I thought it was just committed to my memory and I'd never see it again! thanks!
PLEASE PLEASE maybe you remember...around 1995-1997 a skater died unexpectedly, it was really sad, and Okasana skated a tribute to him. It was heart-wrenching, done to a very sad song. I saw it then, and loved it, and thought I'll never see it again! But now there's YouTube. Please do you know of this, who the skater was that died, and if the tribute is on here? Thanks
Was it the death of Sergei Grinkov of the pair Grinkov-Gordeeva? I also remember tribute show and Brian Boitano skating to Seal's "Don't Cry" that was an unforgettable performance for me and I wish I could see that one again! Hopefully someone will post on youtube along with your fave of Oksana
Yes yes! I believe there were two different skaters performing a tribute, at least that's what I watched. Oksana (if I remember correctly) was wearing a black outfit with long flowing pieces. I'm going to continue to look for it. PLEASE if anyone knows anything about this performance and knows where to find it, please let me know!
YAY I found it! I simply typed "Sergei Grinkov Oksana" and it popped up! I can't wait to watch it undisturbed (I'm at work and after waiting this long to view it, I don't want to have it interrupted by phone calls and the guys in here discussing sports LOL).
almost a year since I sat on a sand dune and waited for a call from the woman I loved. Only to find she cheated and went back w/ Mommys stability to leave me hanging. You are the reason good guys lose! and you can't find one! Call me hammered and then go back to Mommy's little tax evader boy. Sorry for you.
That is what is wrong with Ice Skating competitions today..it is all about the jumps...even though they don't have the artistry and flow on the ice..they can win because of jumps...There is a lot more to skating than jumps...a lot more.
my opinion about oksana is that jumps aren't really her thing because jumps arent really graceful, and she is a graceful person with fluid movements and maybe that is why they almost never come to her easy. she was meant to be on the ice.
Aaahhh, I recall this performance like it was yesterday (can't believe it was 11 yrs. ago). Still gets to me, as do all her performances, but especially this one, as to me it is the story of her life. P.S. Too bad about the poor quality of the video (doesn't do it justice).

How is Oksana Baiul (the greatest of all-time) versus Lee, Yu-Na (the latest gold medalist)???

I love the dress! It doesn't even look made for skating... It's like you could go skating in it then go to a party after in it! Hahah/

Yamaguchi is the more better jumper, but Baiul is the better performer. Baiul was lucky to have won the gold in '94.
