I'm only 13 years old. I'm a boy. And this is my favorite song and it always will be. I hate that mainstream stuff. 50s,60s,70s,80s,and some of the 90s will always live in my heart.
One of the greatest performances on record . . . by anyone. Roy Orbison was a complete one-off - like Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee, Conway & Charlie Rich, a graduate of Sam Phillips and Cowboy Jack Clement at Sun Records.
This is the first song my husband ever sang to me. He and I were not dating and I was seeing someone else at the time. We were just friends at the time. When he first sang it to me I cried and still now listening to it I cry. It has great sentimental value to me. Thanks Roy for a wonderful song that touches my heart, even after 12 years of marriage.
Having lost my darling wife 5 years ago to the dreaded big C. I listen this more times than I should. Every time I do, I think of my late wife. I shed tears. Such a beautiful song. As an earlier poster wrote. There is/was, and always will be, one Roy!
Roy is a legend....so perfect you just cannot replicate that voice...he was a perfect exanple of singing in its natural state....ask any top band.................and they will say ROY......
69 dislikes?! This such a beautiful song. Folks please stop wasting your time listening to no talents like Justin Bieber and listen to a amazing performer.
This song is so amazing and inspiring to me. I hear the lyrics all of the time in my head when I am awake or asleep, and I cry everytime when I hear it. It so very much touches me in my heart and soul, I just so melt. What a beautiful voice he had. Roy I so adore you, ty so very very much for inspiring me that way...
Love Orbison since I was a kid, and I also loved the way David Lynch incorporated this song so brilliantly into the movie Blue Velvet. There are few songs more memorable in film than this one. And what a glorious voice Roy had!
With out a doubt the most talented vocalist ever. I don't know if the younger generations can really acknowledge what they are hearing. This was done before all the electronic alterations. This man could hit notes that are almost impossible .What a gift. Thank you Roy. R.I.P.
....I was a teenager in love when this masterpiece was around and it stilled the heart and gave you goosepimples....isn't that what unique exceptional music is supposed to do?
@Dar0922 I wonder what was considered "indie" back in Orbinson's day. I wonder if teens thought this was crap just as we think our pop artists are crap.

@Dar0922 You couldn't be more right. The fact of the matter is that these days they want all the fame and the money and don't care much about music (if its sells who cares!). Artists like Roy Orbison lived and breathed music for every second of their lives. fame was just a by product of their passion. Such passion is rare if not almost extint these days.
@akemoguy BS. Ironically, you dont even realise you're not even talking about music anymore. Music is neither obscene or prude. Vulgar gimmicks like Lady Gaga's are *always* obscene.
And you know, she doesnt even do it because sex sells. Its appeal is actually how agressive it is in its vapidness. "hurr durr, well *I* happen to like it, Deal With It!" Kinda like your comment.
Also, lots of truly great music from at least 40 years ago was far from prudish, of course you'd just rather ignore that.
@akemoguy Inform you of what? Seems you forgot to ask a question to mask you're only trying to be smug. What are you even trying to say? Do you know??
Anyways. Kids loved Elvis and Roy when their music actually came out. Kids like to feel that they are part of it, like they could meet and even date their idols. Also, don't underestimate how many kids still listen to their music today.
The difference is if you actually play out their tunes on a piano it doesnt sound like a 3 yr old wrote it.
@wallowinthehallows Yes, what an outrageous opinion I'm expressing, I must be trolling. I mean, why else would someone even debate something on a youtube page, am I right, guys??
Seriously though, there seems no end to the depth of some people's cynicism.
@akemoguy Contrary to what you probably believe, the entire world isnt in on this whole "every debate on the internet must become a troll" game. Some people actually believe there is merit in discussing things genuinely. Or at least expressing their genuine opinion. Yes, *even* people who actually know what "trolling" is. But by all means, go on pointing out what a fool I am for still responding.
@akemoguy I think I made myself clear on why I have so little respect for them. But the gist of it is that I don't believe they are just being cheap to be cheap. @wishcraft4u2 Just to put a different opinion in this conversation. You absolutely don't have to respect those acts. (the spears and the biebers) they will not be remembered in 40 years. They are pop acts and pop acts come and go and are relevant only to their respective generation and only the casual music listener at that. @Dar0922 There are still talented musicians around; just look a little harder! Please don't give up just because a legend like this isn't around any longer. The popular music of nowadays is a passing fad, all we have to do is support the not-so pop singers and legends will become timeless.
@DrakeKesda Thank you so much for saying that! I try to tell people that all the time. If you really love music you will always keep searching because one of the best things about music is the discovery of a new sound or song to love.
