Music in-game taken from real life music is the reason Earthbound won't release. Back in 1995, they got away with it, but because of a lot of legal stuff, they can't release it now because of the Internet. The moment they re-release EB/Mother 2 on the VC, Nintendo will get sued.
I think it'd be great to get a Mother Anthology on the 3DS. Either the original games or 3D remakes, either way it would make everyone's day. Maybe even a Mother 4, but that's a longshot in itself.
@TheFoxshot I was exactally thinking the same thing! I think it would be perfect for teh 3DS: with Handdrawn graphics (like Rayman Origins), a new radical soundtrack, and I can see the 3DS hardware taking total advantage of the psycadellic battle scenes! Hopefully will remember not how Earthbound didn't do so well in America, but how good of a game it was overall (which America realized after the games release :P)

@reviewmaster007: We can't just give up on it yet. Earthbound US anniversary is in 2010, prehaps we'll get it then. I am relatively patience for games and I will keep my finger cross until the Virtual Console goes deceased. Quite litterally.

Earthbound is not coming onto the VC for legal reasons, there are too many references to music, samples used, etc. NoA wanted to change that (which let's face it, wouldn't have been too hard) but NCL wanted to keep it the same and let's face it NCL have the deciding vote....

@althegeek: That's what you think. NOA might not be able to change musics, but if they are willing to spend the time and money to fix legal issues, we can get the game. It is not impossible. Legal issues can be resolved, it just take time and dedication and Nintendo is a very dedicated company. Try to be a little more optimistic. True, that may be, but we don't know for sure. I hope they will sell it on the Wii Shop Channel in the future because A. Earthbound has become somewhat rare and going for $70 on ebay. If it's on the Wii shop channel for 1000 points, then it won't be rare anymore and B. You could just buy it off the Wii Shop Channel and then have it on your Wii.
