If you want to get skyscrapers plan your city well!! Don't just zone a bunch of residential and near to no jobs. Your city must have jobs for nearly every sim with good commute. You can have a good rapid transit system by adding rail, subways, bus stops etc. Or another way to have a good commute is by building more highways and avenues. A rapid transit system is succesful when a sim can travel from one side of the city another. Make sure you feed into what the RCI demad wants look at other vids

Well, if you wanna make big buildings, you either can build big landmarks, or the better and more time-lapsing way to do it would be to zone for high density commercial or residential once your city's population has exceeded 26,000 sims. If you have zoned high density residential or commercial and you're not seeing high rises, check on your water systems.

If you want big buildings, apartments need water, and also make the residential area smaller. High demand and less room = Apts. Make sure your doing medium density at least for them. That's a very basic explanation.

You must pass a certain population threshold in order to allow medium and high density buildings.  Satisfy demand, add amenities like school and police, you should start seeing small apartments, then skyscrapers. You just have to balance the zones EVENLY and be patient.

Well, first off, to get bigger buildings, you need to upgrade ALL your streets to roads, make sure supply of jobs equals the demand, both commercial and industrial, and both in your city, and neighbouring cities. Make sure that you look at your RCI demand graph, and re-develop, with heavy and medium RCI, the already created zones. If they're in demand then sims should move in, in apartment blocks, and the like.

Ummmm...this is shit. You need to plan the city instead of just dragging zones everywhere. Build your roads first, then zone. Place bus stops, and make neighborhoods; each with their own amenities like schools and hospitals. Have parks. Put your commercial sector in the middle and keep the industrial away from residential. If you follow that and continue to provide what they want; you should get skyscrapers once you upgrade the density. Go medium at about 3000 people; and high at about 20,000
