Glad this film exists to help people see & hear (sort of) the roots of so much that came from them. The film was historically flawed, Hollywood-ized. The real Phil Chess was 60 at the time movie portrayed. There were two Chess brothers. Etta was happily married. Howlin' Wolf was bigger in the scene than Muddy and not so at war that he didn't keep Muddy afloat when Muddy went broke. Sonny Boy, Bo Diddly, others: not shown. Etta James has expressed that she does not approve of the way that Beyonce portrayed her and thought she missed it entirely. There's youtube videos of James comments to prove it. Beyonce isn't an actress. She was so-so as Etta James but honestly, she doesn't even have the life experiences necessary to portray a woman like Etta. She gave a cute performance but she was a bit flat... as usual. I enjoyed hearing her sing the songs though.

Glad this film exists to help people see & hear (sort of) the roots of so much that came from them. The film was historically flawed, Hollywood-ized. The real Phil Chess was 60 at the time movie portrayed. There were two Chess brothers. Etta was happily married. Howlin' Wolf was bigger in the scene than Muddy and not so at war that he didn't keep Muddy afloat when Muddy went broke. Sonny Boy, Bo Diddly, others: not shown. I was amazed, having seen the real Etta James (and Muddy, and a whole list of blues legends) at just how good Beyonce was. totally unexpected. Etta James has expressed that she does not approve of the way that Beyonce portrayed her and thought she missed it entirely. There's youtube videos of James comments to prove it. To be fair i think Beyonce's a worthy talent her voice is just not even worth comparison to Etta. Etta had a smooth velvet jazzy voice. beyonce is pure modern belt and riff. Ok so I've lived in a cave and not real familiar with Beyonce's talant. After seeing Cadillace, I'm now compltely hooked. Beyonce singing is positively awesome, gifted and beautiful.

When I watched this movie, I wanted to hide my face. Beyonce was SOOOOO Good in this, especially the scene where she met her father. All that cursing and pain, I wanted to cry for Etta, not Beyonce, but Etta. My cousin said this was the first time that she didn't see Beyonce in a film no matter how hard she tried.

When I was watching this movie in the theaters I couldn't wait for Beyonce to come out. And when she finally did I couldn't believe that was her! She did AMAZING!! I was speechless! It was her best acting role! My jaw dropped! The woman is incredible and she can do anything! July 11th, 2009 Anaheim Honda Center = BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE!!

@lisalisalisa9481 I agree I think we want and need more impersonators of American Stars primarily the ones we have treated badly and there are quite a few. How else are we to fool the younger generation into being subsevvient and spoiled. Never give credit where credit is due I say, don't you? It seems to be the American way. I know if I were lucky enough to have a daughter I would never want her to know how Etta's been treated over the years.

I don't think you've analyzed or seen most or all her performances and movies to say she under does anything. and second rate pop star? She can belt anything while doing flips and cartwheels. I'd like to see etta james do that.

Honestly I did enjoy cadillac records .......until beyonce came into the movie..(Then it Sucked) Oh, and come on now, if they don't even put her in the movie until its almost over what does that tell you?...duh
To have Beyonce (i wouldn't even dare refer too her as an actress) along side actors such as Jeffery Wright and Adrien Brody is just wrong ! ..... wrong and the casting director whom is responsible for this should be blacklisted and never be allowed to do such a thing ever again.

Now Beyonce is and Incredible singer and she's very pretty too! .................However, her performance in "Cadalac Records" was just awful! Beyonce cant act. I'm sorry. Her favorite words are "EMOTIONAL" & "NERVOUS". She is so annoying. She should be rated the most annoying entertainer ever.
