It looks like somebody put a bigass beer keg on the end of a stick. Whoever heard of making the *head* of a hammer out of wood, anyway? A steel hammer would deliver more force in a smaller concentrated area, not need to be as heavy, and wouldn't be as cumbersome.
@logik316, I don't think anyone has ever thought of this piece as "practical". Like in most action films, "BIGGER" = "more menacing". And I guarantee that a direct hit with this hammer would be FAR messier than a traditional medieval-style war hammer. But it IS a fantasy film, after all; full of things that wouldn't happen in real life. I didn't design the thing, I just replicated it...
Oh, I know you're just copying the movie prop, and it does look exactly like it. I just never liked the way Thorgrim and his weapon were designed (god of thunder he was *not*).
Unfortunately Thorgrim was an idiot and fell for that booby trap. Did he seriously think Conan would just sit there with his helmet exposed? I guess that's the only way to kill Thorgrim because of that big ass hammer, I wouldn't want to go head to head with that thing.
@Ronin228 he has to take these big swings and he ends up missing alot look at the fight between conan rexor and thorgrim its one of those things where one hit would crush your skull but its massive and slow i wouldnt use it cause a sword would get the job done just as well
WOW! I have a twenty pound sledge hammer I use for knocking large bronze sculptures into shape before welding. 38 pounds would be unthinkable to weild with any kind of finesse or speed or accuracy, and I'm pretty strong! Give me one of those five pound late-middle-age war hammers with the piercing spike. Don't think so? Hold one sometime.
In the interest of wasting as little time with you as possible, I'll reply by paraphrasing a previous reply to another imbecile: did you favorite my video just so you come on here & talk trash after a busy day of smoking pot in your mom's apartment? If so, I can fix that.

man i found this video while i was super baked and thought wow this is the stupidest video ever. regardless of who's perspective thats in, go fuck yourself.
I noticed on a forum you custom made a broken father's sword. How did you make it look more weathered? I know the pommel and guard are not solid bronze but some sort of alloy. How did you cut/break the sword?
Did you dremmel or acid etch the missing engravings?
I noticed you also reworked the leather. Where would be a good place to look for the leather lace how did you make the new leather weathered looking?
Good work man, much respect for putting so much work and time into something you believed in, I don't care what anyone says. Great movie, amazing soundtrack, Arnold's best movie, followed by Terminator, in my humble opinion.
Thanks, it took so long, it was almost like a "quest" when I got near the end. Weight is 38 lbs (~17.25 kilos). I might get around to making an actual video of it at some point, but right now I don't have a camera or the available time. Hoping that will change soon...
About $135 out-of-pocket for materials. The wood was a big tree branch & discarded telephone pole, so the price would have been a bit more than that if I'd had to purchase the wood somewhere. But the amount of labor I put into the build makes it worth FAR MORE than that (for me).
hey hey, he's got a point this video is super duper epic awesomeness lolcakez. it makes me laugh at how fuckin dumb this video is. its 4 minutes of a fuckin hammer.<3 Thorgrim's Hammer.
The length of the video directly corresponds with the length of the track. It is meant to showcase the musical brilliance of Basil Poledouris (RIP), as well as marking the completion of a long & arduous project. Anyway, congratulations on those e-guts, looks like you & TheoTorbiak2 are making good use of them. lololol!!!111one
Because your plethora of "Guitar Hero" videos are the coolest, am I rite??? So, I'm curious, did you favorite my video just so you come on here & talk trash after a busy night of filming yourself playing video games? If so, I can fix that. I'm also mildly curious (don't spend too much time on it though) as to what your definition of "fake" is. BTW, maybe before you post next, go ahead & get high beforehand. At least then your submission MIGHT bring some minor lulz.
@sithlordvyd When i saw this movie again after my childhood, i was 16 years old. After i saw Sven-Ole Thorsen, I was in the Gym the NExt day lifting heavy Weights , And here I am still on the same Path =). he has been one of My Idol since 10 years now.
@IDidntComeUpWithName as I type this...I prepare for the gym...I am tired from working all day...but It will not stop me...in about 15-20 lbs Ill be of Thorgrim status...
Small words from a small man. The handle is a branch from a cedar tree. The head is a section of utility pole. The bands & rivets are brass, anchored by steel posts. the wrapping on the handle is deer-hide. Google search: "Thorgrim's Hammer" for a link with build-photos. So maybe try to have a clue what you're talking about, before you run your yapper from now on.
Heh, "anything" is a word that has a very broad spectrum of meaning. One day I -might- be convinced to build another commissioned piece, but the buyer would have to be content to wait a pretty lengthy span of time for it, as well as having to pay (what some would call) an EXORBITANT fee for the finished product. I'm not saying, I'm just saying...
Heh, that's not the first time I've heard that. I figure that the hammer's purpose is to smite my enemies (& errant stone pillars), & a watermelon (or other random fruit) is just unworthy. Before: an awesome melee weapon of doom, & after: a Gallagher 'Sledge'O'Matic. See what I'm saying? ;-)
Random thought: This weapon is the pre-industrial counterpart to Old Painless, Jesse Ventura's minigun in Predator. Completely impractical, nigh-impossible to use or even carry around in real life, but still totally awesome.
I figured the hammer we saw him smacking dudes with one-handed had to be a lightweight prop. Even if Thorsen were THAT strong, there would be stuntmen with caved-in chests and heads otherwise.
Know anything about the fight scene in the orgy room? On one hand the hammer in that scene appeared to have real heft, but on the other it seems like a dangerous weapon to choreograph with. I mean, a movie sword can be dull and still look good, but a heavy hammer is a heavy hammer.
There were several hammers used in the 'Orgy Chamber' scene. When Thorgrim first enters the chamber, he is seen holding the hammer with one hand. The wooden hammer would've been far too top heavy to be carried that way (gravity pulls the hammer-head straight down). Also, if you frame-by-frame through the scene when he cracks the pillar, you can actually SEE the rubber hammer-head warp out of shape & then bounce back.
Battle ready? I'd be surprised if the average guy, or anyone NOT built like Sven Old-Thorsen, could even heft that thing and swing it effectively.
I own a big honking mallet that's probably a good fifteen pounds lighter than this one, and it's shockingly difficult to handle. Picking up twenty pounds is easy, swinging it around on the end of a four-foot handle is not.
The handle is a branch cut from a cedar tree in front of my building at work, & the head is a length of discarded telephone pole. (I tried to procure a piece of piling from the local dock-builders, but they didn't have anything that was NOT pressure-treated with arsenic.) The bands & rivets are all chemically-aged, solid brass. The rivets are each mounted on a piece of steel rod. The leather wrapping is deer-hide.
Yeah, a hammer that size/weight wouldn't have been practical in combat no matter how strong one was; but I like the weapon all the same. In the film, when you see Thorsen swinging it one-handed, he was using a stunt hammer made from rubber/foam-rubber.
It weighs 38 lbs (~17.25 kilos). Interestingly, after I finished my hammer, I found out that the original screen-used wooden hammer from the film, weighed around 40 lbs. It was just pure chance that my version ended up weighing almost exactly the same.
Yeah, I'd say it was "battle-ready", I made it specifically to be very strong/sturdy. And to answer your question, it took me 2500+ actual work hours to build this thing over 2.5 years. So if I made my wage $1 per hour, I would still have to charge about $2500 (not including parts, just labor), which is RIDICULOUS. It would be highway robbery. See what I mean?
The war-hammer in the vid isn't for sale, & I don't know if I can make another one. It took more than a year to acquire all the materials, & some of the parts were found by accident (& pure luck). To make it worth my trouble, I'd have to charge an ungodly amount of money...
Hmm. If you are stating that "batty" is an example of YET ANOTHER legitimate term that has been hijacked by the homosexual "community", then you'd be right. If you're referring to something else, then I've got nothing for you. *shrugs* Oh yeah: lol.
