@Dacktyl You make a good point. Once video of one story is not convincing. Instead you can search on "NHS death panels;" "NHS overcrowding;" or "NHS wait times" and you can find many recent articles about the downside of nationalized healthcare. I understand people with private insurance die every year because the insurance won't pay, but do you think that Medicare and Medicaid don't turn just as many or more people away from the treatment they need? They turn people down everyday.

Thank GOD my father had it when he was diagnosed with Alzheimers - my entire family would have been in the poor house - instead, he was able to get the in-home care he NEEDED & the full-time care when the time came. The US is the ONLY nation on Earth that allows FOR PROFIT healthcare -whether the middleman be public or private. I'm sure there's problems with the NHS - but NONE of them are clamoring for OUR unconscionable system.

@Dacktyl That's great for your family, but now you're using an isolated example to prove a point. There is no system, private or public, that won't turn many people away who need care. There simply isn't enough money to go around. At least with private care, for the majority who pay for it, their health care is not controlled by the government. A single payer system would put all of us under complete government health care control. Why are you OK with that? Why do you trust the government?

I agree we need to cut costs but this can be done by allowing free market competition across state lines which is not permitted now for some strange reason. The poor have a health care system in place - called the ER - which WE ALL pay for - that it why the American Health care system is the MOST expensive yet STILL has the highest infant mortality rate. The US has those "uniquely American" Medical Bankruptcies where the MIDDLE CLASS have the FREEDOM to go bankrupt if (when) they get sick. I love Graham Lindhan's shows, but Americans really value our Constitution, capitalism and we don't want socialized medicine. The media is really a small voice compared to the rest of America. We like freedom of religion, speech and choice of medical providers. Capitalism is very important to us and we don't want to become a socialized country. We have other safety nets to fall back on. The poor already have a health care system in place.
