So, 3 down seasons under a lousy experiment, and Michigan is nothing? It wasn't very long ago that it was #1 vs #2 in The Game. Michigan was racking up top 10 finishes annually when Va Tech was roller coastering through the ACC. Beating Florida in bowl games while Georgia Tech was still figuring out which guy is third in the triple option.
Wen they separate these two, it's gonna SUCK! I dont want them to play twice, it dont seem right for such a classic battle, & 2 separate em.....bad idea. Despite them playin at the end of the regular season anyway, I dont want them to play, then a week later them play each other again
Their lone title post-1950 I mean. Michigan has consistently won, though, except for the last two seasons...they'll be back eventually, and I hope it happens sooner than later. I want to see some more classic battles between OSU and Michigan like we have seen in the past...two strong programs duking it out for the Big Ten.
Too bad Michigan won most of their titles before some of the prominent programs of today rose up. Yeah, it was easy to beat OSU back in 1910 when OSU still played (and even lost to) schools like Wooster, Oberlin, and Ohio Wesleyan. So, while you can't argue the numbers, you can argue the meaningfulness of those numbers. Really since 1950, Michigan has never been the best program at any one time, except for maybe 1997, their one lone national title (which of course was shared with Nebraska)
Top tier college football programs (no particular order): Virginia Tech, Florida State, Miami, Ohio State, Penn State, USC, Oregon, Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Florida, LSU, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Boise State, West Virginia, Tennessee.
All of these teams are MUCH better than Michigan every year for the past few years and will be better for the foreseeable future. There's plenty of names I left off the list that could be on there: Iowa, Utah, etc. But Michigan is NOWHERE close.
@sunil481 georgia tech? Come on now, you're an idiot if you think that. Not to mention West Virginia can't even win the big east which is god awful and Miami is in the same type of slump that Michigan is in right now. Michigan will return to greatness when Bitch Rod is fired and Harbough comes back home.Hail to the motherfucking victors! Georgia Tech......unfuckingbelievable
@MooreWolverinesFan: So ancient history gives you something to talk about, but the fans of teams that are much better than Michigan *now* can't talk? I'm a Buckeye fan and frankly I miss the days when Michigan was a top-tier program. I think those days will return. But right now there are 15-20 teams that are better than Michigan on a consistent basis so your "best program in football history" is pretty arbitrary.
to tell the truth dude, im a Michigan fan but i respect Penn State. I respect your coach. but, no offense, but you have owned us only the last two years and we beat you like 9 years in a row. im just saying. anyway, that is all hope Penn State beats Ohio State again.
Lame. Its easy to lay someone out when he's in a throwing motion and totally exposed. Show a real man's hit when someone's got the ball in the open field. Oh wait, Michigan doesn't have any of those.
@sunil481 When your team has 23 undefeated seasons and the best program in college football history, then you can talk. Too bad you wouldn't be a real man and take on Alan Branch yourself.
yea morelli wasent that great. im not hatin on himn or saying anyones better than him. im a ND fan. yes we suck, thank you. but i really thought he was a better QB. he was really unconsistant., then again so was brady quinn. but o well, sucks he got knocked the fuck out lol
Nah.... he was pretty bad. He couldn't read coverages, would lock on one player and wouldn't be able to rotate to a different receiver even if the locked receiver was covered. Couldn't deal with pressure. One of the worst QB's to have in the Red zone. He could drop the bomb, I'll give him that. Million dollar arm, 50 cent brain :P
I am a PSU fan, and I completely agree. Morelli could make a fantastic, and I mean perfect throw anywhere on the field, but then he'd completley mess up an easy wide open reciever.
Isn't that what Ohio State fans are saying by now about Michigan? It's an unofficial rivalry, that's been intensified in the past few years. But Ohio State is the true rival of Penn State in the Rust Belt Rivalry.
BTW, Penn State is 4-10 against Michigan, not bad, not great, but it'll improve soon.
and yea. pretty sure it doesnt matter this year.. we going to destroy michigan.. just like the wisconsin game.. and playin at the frikin beaver stadium.. goina lay them out.. WE ARE! (7-0)!
For awhile it reminded me of the 2004 game at Wisconsin where Mills was knocked out and M-Rob had to be taken away in an ambulance. But then Paul Cianciolo proved to be a lot more effective than Chris Ganter was and we actually had a decent shot at winning.
He wasn't destroyed you fucking scUM fan. That should've been roughing the passer. But Michigan has to cheat to beat Penn State. Can't wait to see that "streak" end this year.
Yea they all remember what is possible my favorite photo in all of sports. Alan Branch sauntering off with Morelli just laying there. If I were a Penn State fan I would have preferred an incompletion and Morelli still in the game.
Ummmm...ever hear of Darryl Clark? You know...starting QB for the 2008 Big-11 Champions The Pennsylvania State University Nittany Lions. He was picking splinters out of his ass while Paterno wasted 2006-07 playing Moronelli. I think I hear your Momma callin' you to supper. get along a li'l doggie!
You have to be either retarded, related to Morelli, or are Morelli's gay boyfriend. Which one is it? You have the distinct honor of being the only person to try and claim Morelli is a better QB than Clark.
Michigan's biggest loss was Mario Manningham, and I'll admit that played a hand in the outcome of the game. However, I don't think it'd have been too much different with or without Manningham. The biggest factor in the game was the rowdy home crowd. In Ann Arbor, it might have been a blowout.
when i say this im not in any way disagreeing that morrelli was a huge let down but, he could have been one of the most talented qbs while he was playing the problem being he had no coaching at all as he leaves college he hasnt progressed much talent wise since he entered it and its not his fault the coaching was just poor
exactly, it was him and henne one two that year out of high school, and many nfl scouts look at morelli and say he has great talent and potential but just never coached
Man, I didn't think it was possible for anyone to whine more than Urban Meyer, but you PSWho fans sure give it your all. LOL, beat us sometime first. Then maybe someone will take you seriously.
No, it wasn't. You Penn State fans are ridiculous.
As far as 1-AA teams, awesome. Believe me, I've been humbled. However, what does that say of your team and coach? Paterno has been outcoached by Carr every year for over a decade. I'll shut my mouth if Paterno beats UM this year -- until then, PSWho is just the team that can't beat the team that lost to App State. Sucks, doesn't it?
"Show you"? Ha, go watch the video -- the burden of proof is on you since we both know what the final score was.
And "chain of losses"? Huh? You're really grasping at straws here. It's a simple fact that Paterno hasn't beaten UM in over a decade, and in the event that PSU wins this year, I'll shut my mouth. But as we both can see from last weekend, anything can happen on any given Saturday -- just like two years ago when UM spoiled PSU's perfect season despite a horrible opening record.
I've seen the video hundreds of times, and I've explained it as many -- in the NCAA rulebook it explicitly states that the receiver's entire foot does not need to be down for him to legally be down. Avant clearly lands on the tip of his foot inbounds before his heel comes down on the sideline.
This rule is the exact same reason that TD catches in the endzone that appear iffy (for the receiver appearing to land close to the line) are more likely to be held as legal than not.
The rulebook says nothing about the toe-heel thing, thus I'm still obligated to believe that they're talking about a whole foot, and there's no distinction between a heel and a toe when it comes to the catch, so no, it's not explicitly stated in the rulebook (like the other guy said). The only way I can see it as a catch is if the official thought he pulled a Sean Elliott (if they thought his heel didn't touch the ground).
According to the NCAA Football 2005 Rules and Interpretations -- "No player shall use his helmet (including the face mask) to butt or ram an opponent or attempt to punish him. There shall be no spearing. No player shall strike a runner with the crown or the top of his helmet in an attempt to punish him."
