When Nickelodeon placed the time capsule outside the facility, the network had no knowledge of what the future held. By 2000, Game Shows were "out", kids no longer wanted to sit in the audiences, take the tour and go to the store.

If Nickelodeon had left the time capsule behind, it would have been considered abandoned property and Universal could have dug it up & thrown it away when it renovated the complex.

They must have re-painted the blue X to green in the later years. I personally don't like the Blue Man group and the messed the buildings paint up by repainting the place. 1 thing I bet all of you that Game Boy probably works better than anyone in the U.S. now, think about that. By the early 2000s, the realization that Nickelodeon Studios had no future was becoming apparent. With the death of game shows, production of scripted programs moved back to Los Angeles where actors wanted to be and kids no longer wanting to stop by the facility to take the tour and visit the store, Nickelodeon was really left with no choice but to throw in the towel.

It made no sense to keep pumping money into Nickelodeon Studios because it was no longer a viable production facility.

Mr. Redstone is responsible for shutting down Nickelodeon Studios in Orlando, FL. There is a videotape here on Youtube showing that some 1990s Nickelodeon stuff is still in the main building, after The Blue Man Group took over.

The capsule needs to remain in the possession of Nickelodeon and that means keeping it on property controlled by the network. Thus it was moved to the Nickelodeon Suites Resort (the Nick Hotel).

The cover to the housing (or whatever the container is that the time capsule itself is dropped into is called) was changed in order to remove the references to Nickelodeon Studios.
