Yeah I got arrested that night. I was walking with the group but just filming and watching. My friend who owned the camera got arrested and has all of it on film.
I was ONE of those arrested, out of a group of 46. All we did was march through streets that were either closed (by the police, no less) or streets that were backed up for miles. We chanted and held up the peace sign to make sure everyone knew EXACTLY what our intentions were. And yet we still got arrested. Don't tell me about "actual reports" when it was MY voice that the police tried to silence.
That's real America right there, where the police KNOW that the people have more power then the leaders of this country. If we could only organize better we could show, peacefully, that we want real change. That we stand against what our government is doing in our names.
The problem is not enough people care to know what is really going on. They see some TV news and think that's the truth, with no interest in who is fucking them and why. Don't trust any political party:trust in yourself
the problem with these situations is of course, the cops many times are as afraid if not more so than the people in the crowd.
However they have a badge on their chest and feel it's fair game to respond in whatever manner they feel fit and use more force than is necessary because they have the power to do so.
Additionally sure they're humans like the rest of us, but what if they had a bad day just as we all have, they can use their power with a negative outcome that can be unjust punishment.
Nothing would have happened if the police hadn't been there. Though they were doing their job, many of the police officers present stepped over the line. The "mob" moved onto the sidewalk once commanded. I'm glad that there was numerous people there to document the situation.

I agree 100% with you. But cops are human to. My friend was working 18 hour day for 4 days straight breaking up riots and being taunted. Put yourself in that situation. Also, when this kind of situation occurs, picking out people is hard and a general shutdown is needed to try and take control of the situation. I was ONE of those arrested, out of a group of 46. All we did was march through streets that were either closed (by the police, no less) or streets that were backed up for miles. We chanted and held up the peace sign to make sure everyone knew EXACTLY what our intentions were. And yet we still got arrested. Don't tell me about "actual reports" when it was MY voice that the police tried to silence.

the problem with these situations is of course, the cops many times are as afraid if not more so than the people in the crowd.
However they have a badge on their chest and feel it's fair game to respond in whatever manner they feel fit and use more force than is necessary because they have the power to do so.
Additionally sure they're humans like the rest of us, but what if they had a bad day just as we all have, they can use their power with a negative outcome that can be unjust punishment.

Grow up! When you walk down the street in a large group (a mob) when 2 days earlier in St. Paul a mob got out of hand, obviously the police assigned to control such instances are going to restrain you before it gets out of control. I was at the show. The show was amazing. Then after the show I respected what the police were there for and got in my car and drove home. My voice was heard by being at the show. I didn't have to get arrested or disrupt the peace to express my thoughts.

Breaking store windows, throwing rocks & bottles, and sticking a burning trash can into a cop car with 2 officers in it is NOT activism. Some people obviously don't belong and are looking for chaos and the police know that. I don't understand what's NOT to get about that. I'd rather be detained for 20 mins. out of safety than no police and be trampled.

I agree 100% with you. But cops are human to. My friend was working 18 hour day for 4 days straight breaking up riots and being taunted. Put yourself in that situation. Also, when this kind of situation occurs, picking out people is hard and a general shutdown is needed to try and take control of the situation. But yes, I wish there was a better way to filter out good/bad, but truthfully there isn't.
