The reason many have given her a hard time is because she refused to tune her early live performances, or sing along with pre-recorded vocals. Because of this, she gave honest and still very legitimate perfomances. It's especially hard to compare those early perfomances with people who've tuned, stacked, and layered their voice a dozen times and mime along. Yes, recently she added a basic tuner in her live performances, it's much better than watching a 16 year old lip-sync entire concerts.
